Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Drawing Blood from the Substitute
Wen Li turned around and saw the fierce look in Lin Xu’s eyes, her heart shuddered, and her body quivered.
“I warned you before, never to appear before me,” Lin Xu’s face chilled as she stepped toward Wen Li, “Ji Tingyang might be willing to let you off, but I won’t let things end so easily.”
Wen Li stepped back until she hit the wall, which stopped her from retreating further, “I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean it that day, I’ve already apologized to Ji Tingyang, can you forgive me?”
“Sure,” Lin Xu said with a light smile.
A glint of joy flashed through Wen Li’s heart.
But then she heard Lin Xu’s following words, “The day I push you into the water and leave you half-dead, if you can forgive me then, I will forgive you just the same.”
The corners of Lin Xu’s lips were raised in a sweet smile, but it felt chilling to Wen Li, sending shivers down her spine.
“I’m, I’m sorry,” Wen Li’s eyes reddened, and fear spilled out from her heart.
She couldn’t even wait for Ji Zeqiu to return and ran out the door.
So easily frightened.
Lin Xu snorted disdainfully.
She had thought that Wen Li wouldn’t come back, but unexpectedly, Ji Zeqiu brought her back after returning from the convenience store downstairs.
“This is my home, by what right do you send her away!” He burst in, furious at Lin Xu from the moment he entered.
He had just bought toiletries and on the way back, he happened to see Wen Li leaving. No matter how he asked, she wouldn’t say why she left.
It took him a long time to persuade Wen Li to come back.
“I didn’t do anything,” Lin Xu blinked innocently, feigning ignorance, “Do you have any evidence?”
“Who else but you would make her leave?” Ji Zeqiu clearly didn’t believe her.
Moreover, Lin Xu’s dislike for Wen Li was well-known, she had bullied her back at Ji Mansion, there was a “record.”
“Then you ask her yourself, was it me?” Lin Xu said.
Ji Zeqiu turned his head towards Wen Li.
However, Wen Li was just reddening her eyes, looking unwilling to speak, “Stop asking, it was my own decision to leave.”
That hesitant look, as if hiding something, made Ji Zeqiu convinced it wasn’t voluntary.
“It must be Lin Xu… Ah…”
Ji Zeqiu was about to argue for Wen Li in anger, but in the next second, his ear was pinched, and his previously fierce demeanour disappeared instantly.
Lin Xu twisted his ear and scolded in a hushed voice, “She herself said it wasn’t me, yet you still insist on blaming me, are you doing this on purpose?”
At that moment, Ji Zeqiu was like a paper tiger, ferocious one second and meek as a kitten once his ear was seized.
“I did not, let go of me!” Ji Zeqiu was annoyed.
It was bad enough that she pulled his ear in front of Shen Qingtang, and now she was doing it again in front of Wen Li.
His reputation was on the line because of her!
What would Wen Li think of him if this continued?
Lin Xu: “I won’t let go unless you apologize to me.”
Ji Zeqiu reluctantly pursed his lips.
Lin Xu increased her grip, and Ji Zeqiu immediately cried out in pain, “I apologize, I’m sorry, okay!”
“That’s more like it,” Lin Xu was satisfied.
“Then let go of me,” Ji Zeqiu said, frustrated.
“Go make me a cup of milk, then I’ll let go.”
“Don’t be too much!”
“Are you going or not?”
“I’m going, I’m going!”
Wen Li watched the two of them with a nuanced expression, feeling perplexed.
Ji Zeqiu had said that he snatched Lin Xu away to retaliate against her, so why did it look as though it was Lin Xu who was retaliating against him?
As time passed, at Ji Zeqiu’s insistent urging, Wen Li temporarily took up residence.
The next day.
Lin Xu received another message from Ji Yuqiao. Unlike the previous request to be her military strategist, this time it was to share good news.
Raining Qiao: [I passed the makeup exam! Scored a high score of ninety on the paper too!]
Her ability to learn wasn’t poor; it was just that she used to focus all her attention on Xiao Yu, daydreaming during class and failing to learn much.
This time, after nearly a week of revision in the library and the motivation of having Xiao Yu tutor her, she easily passed the makeup exam.
Willow Wadding: [Congratulations! How about I treat you to coffee tomorrow?]
Raining Qiao: [Embarrassed.jpg]
Raining Qiao: [I still need to go to the library tomorrow.]
Now that the makeup exam was over, the real purpose of her library visit had nothing to do with studying.
Lin Xu felt helpless.
She thought of another love-struck person by her side, Ji Zeqiu.
Because of Wen Li’s presence at home, he even considered abandoning work and wanted to take leave from the film crew.
In the end, after the frantic scolding of his agent, he left reluctantly.
Since Wen Li had already finished her last final exam and entered winter break early, she didn’t need to go to school anymore.
But with Ji Zeqiu gone, she did not dare to stay alone with Lin Xu and also left the house without a set destination.
With no one to scold nearby, Lin Xu was left at home to idle aimlessly.
She aimlessly scrolled through her phone until her fingertips paused on Xie Changyan’s friend portrait, zoning out.
Several successive messages inviting him out for a meal had gone unanswered; if it weren’t for occasionally seeing his work-related posts on social media, she would have doubted whether she had been blocked.
Was she really so terrible that not even a single message deserved a reply?
Lin Xu poked the screen irritably; halfway through, a call came in. Her finger accidentally hit the answer button, and she picked up the call.
“Lin Xu, hurry to the city’s central hospital. Wen Li’s been in a car accident! Pay some fees to help out first. I’m on my way there now, right now!” Ji Zeqiu’s anxious and disordered words came through.
Lin Xu sat up abruptly from the couch, her eyes filled with shock.
Though she wasn’t too keen on dealing with Wen Li’s life or death, Ji Zeqiu kept pleading with her for help, and faced with her son’s request, she momentarily softened and agreed.
When Lin Xu arrived at the hospital, the doctors were performing surgery on Wen Li, and it seemed to be a serious situation.
The driver responsible for the accident was there with the police as well.
He crouched on the ground, clutching his hair in a state of collapse, mumbling non-stop, “I didn’t do it on purpose. I was just too tired, I spaced out for a moment, I really didn’t expect something like this to happen…”
Lin Xu furrowed her brows; why did this scene feel so familiar?
It wasn’t until Ji Zeqiu arrived at the hospital drenched in sweat that the doctor informed him that Wen Li had an Rh-negative blood type, and the hospital didn’t have this blood type in stock. It could be very dangerous for the patient.
Of course, even as the novel’s female protagonist, her blood type had to be special.
Lin Xu had a sudden realization.
She remembered reading about Ji Zeqiu when she was reborn, a villainous character in the novel who would frequently have to give blood transfusions from his substitute to the female protagonist.
Of course, this included various plotlines of the female protagonist getting injured, car accidents, and blood shortages.
She snapped back to reality.
Sure enough, she saw Ji Zeqiu resolutely pull out his phone.
It looked like he was calling that substitute.
