Reigning Supreme With Pets - Chapter 26
Chapter 26: Ambush And Robbery
“Eh?”
The cultivators were shocked as they turned around to look to where the shadowy figure disappeared.
What they saw was a small two inch long green skinned toad with its mouth wide open. Its long tongue was wrapped around a two-foot long demon monkey in an attempt to swallow it.
“This…”
The group was shocked.
That scene was just too extraordinary. A toad smaller than their fists actually managed to swallow a demon monkey hundred times its size with one gulp. The sight of that sent a chill down their spine.
Nevertheless, the world of cultivators was filled with all sorts of strange phenomena. They were cultivators after all and would not be traumatized by such a sight.
The leader of the group was at a higher cultivation level. He was someone at the peak-level of Qi Refinement Stage. Scanning with his divine sense, he noticed a faint demonic energy on the toad that was incomparable to his own strength. With that, he felt relieved and roared, “Insolent demon! How dare you steal our prey. You’re courting death.”
As he spoke, he threw the sword in his hand into the air, which later transformed into a fluid beam of light that shot straight at the spiritual toad.
Those cultivators knew nothing about the Heaven Swallowing Toad.
Even the disciples of Beastmaster Sect would find it impossible to know about all the demonic beasts in the world, much less these cultivators from the small Huang family.
Nevertheless, they cared not for the value of that spiritual toad as they did not cultivate the Nascent Spirit Beast Taming method. They had no interest in capturing the spiritual toad alive and decided to kill it as quickly as possible. Who knew if they might even be able to recover that demon monkey that was just freshly swallowed by it after cutting it up.
After all, all demonic beasts could be sold for spirit stones. If they killed that spiritual toad, they would gain two demonic beast carcasses.
However, the tiny spiritual toad was unexpectedly agile. With a simple leap, it avoided his flying sword and shot out its long tongue once more, wrapping it around another demonic monkey’s carcass.
“Insolent!”
“How dare you!”
The cultivators of the Huang family were immediately fuming. Apart from the two cultivators that suffered serious injuries remaining seated on the ground, the others were all taking action. They were either sending out their flying swords or swinging the hammers in their hands, sending wave after wave of attacks at the spiritual toad.
“Croak…”
With a single croak, the Heaven Swallowing Toad quickly retracted its tongue and ignored the demon monkey that it was about to eat.
Otherwise, its tongue would have been cut off by the leader of the cultivator group.
It pressed its limbs against the ground and leaped backward by 20 over feet, dodging the various attacks from the group. It knew that this group was not easy to handle and was planning to give up on its feast.
Just as it was about to escape, one of the hammer cultivators arrived before it with a flash. He raised his hammer and struck downward.
“Croak”
Under the hammer, the Heaven Swallowing Toad sensed imminent danger. It knew that if that hit connected, it would die for sure.
Feeling nervous, it darted forward right into the cultivator with its tongue extended like a spear with a sharp edge. The sudden strike pierced through the cultivator’s chest.
Following that, it kicked off with full force and sent the cultivator’s body flying. At the same time, it used the momentum to launch itself further by several dozen feet, trying to make its escape.
“Fourth Brother…”
The other cultivators saw the cultivator being sent flying back at them and was bleeding profusely at his chest. He jerked about a little more and then went deathly still, no longer making any sounds. Rage took over the cultivators.
The previous battle with that group of demon monkeys had no casualty, yet one of their clansmen was killed by this toad that appeared out of nowhere.
“Kill it. We’ll avenge Old Four!”
The cultivators sent forth their flying swords and hammers to bombard at the spiritual toad, giving chase.
On the tree, Qin Feng and Qin Yang were dumbfounded.
The change was too sudden.
However, Qin Feng quickly recovered from his daze.
He scanned the scene and noticed the three remaining cultivators.
Two of them were seriously injured. Although they were saddened by the death of their clansmen, they could only sit still and tend to their wounds, watching helplessly as the rest of their clansmen chased after that spiritual toad.
Meanwhile, the other cultivator was guarding them with his sword in hand.
Although he was furious, he did not let that overrule his rationality.
They were at Qifeng Mountain where a demonic beast might appear out of nowhere. He was not about to leave two wounded clansmen all by themselves.
Despite the fact that only the demonic monkeys that they killed stayed in that vicinity, the scent of blood from the area would soon attract the attention of various vicious beasts.
Atop the tree, Qin Feng nudged Qin Yang with his elbow and pointed at the cultivator standing guard.
Qin Yang frowned and seemed hesitant.
He understood Qin Feng’s intention to have him take care of that sword cultivator.
However, once he acted, he would have to kill him for sure or the Qin and Huang family would be in major conflict.
Qin Feng made a wide grin and took out a robe from his storage bag. He then condensed some spiritual energy to form a sharp blade at his fingertips to silently cut a strip off the robe, signalling Qin Yang to cover up his face with it.
Although a cultivator at the Qi Refinement Stage could extend their divine sense outward, their divine sense at this stage was considered rather weak. As long as Qin Yang covered his face and mask his aura with a spell, the opponent would be unable to detect his features.
Qin Yang was speechless as he sighed inwardly.
He helplessly received the cloth and covered his face with it.
After some thoughts, he took off his robes and turned them inside out. After having a look at himself and making sure that he had nothing on him that would reveal his identity, he finally slid down the bark. He swiftly circled around within the forest and ambushed the target with a pillar of flame.
The cultivator left on guard from the Huang family had a worried look on his face. He would look at the others every so often. Upon sensing an ambush, he immediately cried out in anger and dispersed the pillar of flame in one sword stroke. Following that, he charged at Qin Yang who initiated the sneak attack.
Qin Yang’s ability was on par with that cultivator, but he dared not reveal his true strength in case others might be able to identify him with his signature spells. With that, he could only fight using some common spells, resulting in him being no match for the sword cultivator.
In that situation, he did not dream of beating the sword cultivator and could only retreat as he fought, trying to lure his opponent away.
Very soon, only the two injured cultivators from the Huang family were left sitting in the lotus position, trying to recover their wounds.
Both of them were quite surprised as they did not expect things to turn out this way.
Before they could comprehend what was going on, one of them suddenly popped their eyes wide open with a look of surprise on his face while shouting, “Be careful of ambush!”
However, his warning came a little too late. Before he could finish his statement, the other cultivator felt a pain at the back of his head and passed out instantly.
The cultivator that shouted was shocked and struggled to get up.
However, he had suffered serious injuries with his chest badly scratched by the demonic monkeys and his limbs were covered in wounds. He was unable to get up in that short amount of time.
Following that, he saw the figure that knocked his companion out with a stick swinging the stick in his hand at his head.
Bang…
It was a clean hit and he slumped to the ground.
Qin Feng threw away the thick stick he picked up randomly. Without any delays, he quickly grabbed at the demonic monkey carcasses collected by the Huang family cultivators.
His consciousness was linked with the Demon Refinement Kettle. As long as he made contact with a demonic beast carcass, the kettle could absorb it.
In an instant, over a dozen demonic monkey carcasses were sucked clean by the Demon Refinement Kettle.
Qin Feng paused suddenly just as he was about to leave. He turned to the two unconscious cultivators, picked up their magical tools and then kept them all inside his storage bag. At the same time, he took the storage bags that belonged to the two cultivators as well.
Lastly, he started searching their bodies and managed to find a precious treasure.
Taking it out, he found that it was a piece of Clarity Jade.
Although this item had no offensive or defensive abilities, it would help calm one’s nerves while carrying it, increasing one’s efficiency during cultivation.
‘Nice item. I’m keeping this.’
