Release That Demonic Pet - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Rebound From the Death of the Cardinal Demon Pet
The Fire Mare jolted in shock as it heard Ai Xi’s howl, and as if meeting its mortal enemy, its entire body shook, almost collapsing on the floor as its legs wobbled.
Which would have been quite embarrassing.
After much effort did the middle-aged demon tamer finally calm his Fire Mare down. Exhaling a sigh of relief, he quickly turned around. One look was enough to frighten the middle-aged demon tamer, hairs stood all over his body leaving only the petrified feeling in his heart.
The Wild Saber-Toothed Tiger!
The middle-aged demon tamer was a knowledgeable man, and could easily recognize Ai Xi’s breed with just a glance. The Wild Saber-toothed Tiger was famous amongst other warrior class demons as it was one of the strongest ones, and definitely not a demon he could go up against.
“Run! Quickly! Use Fire Dash!” Seeing Ai Xi, the middle-aged demon tamer’s face paled in fear. Trying to urge it, he instructed his Fire Mare to speed up.
The middle-aged demon tamer had a very simple goal, and that was to reach the Demon Bazaar. For his safety would be ensured as long as he reached the Demon Bazaar. So what if Li Changsheng was a disciple of the Li Clan, it would do him no good to provoke the governor’s anger.
Both Fire Dash and Lightning Dash were similar in terms of the nature of skill. They were both skills used for sprinting but lasting only a few seconds each time, and that the demon pet could not use any fire-type offense skills at the same time to attack their opponents.
The Fire Mare was engulfed in thick flames in a second like it had pulled on a layer of fire as an overcoat. With the impetus of flames around the Fire Mare, its speed showed an exponential increase as it galloped towards the Demon Bazaar.
The Fire Mane could not harm the middle-aged demon tamer because of their binding, and so the most he could feel of the flames would at most be searing heat.
However, due to the differences between their Levels, Bloodlines, and Class, the Fire Mare’s greatest speed was merely that of Ai Xi’s at normal condition.
The middle-aged demon tamer felt regret stewing horribly in his chest. By deciding to mob Li Changsheng in an area far from the Demon Bazaar, they had caused their own downfall.
It would take at least 2-3 minutes to return to the Demon Bazaar. The problem was, though, the Fire Mare could not sustain its condition for so long, and it would only be a quick moment before the Wild Saber-toothed Tiger would catch up on them.
The middle-aged demon tamer could not help but feel anxious. Reminding himself that he was a man of experience, he got himself to calm down and began to plot his escape.
Unfortunately, before the middle-aged demon tamer could come up with anything, Ai Xi howled and conjured up a thick layer of wind-type energy around itself and wore it as if it was a beautiful wind blazer. The energy increased its speed and quickly shortened the distance between it and the Fire Mare.
There was a limit to how long the Fire Dash was effective for, and the flames had begun to die down after the initial 3-4 seconds, visibly slowing down.
In the blink of an eye, the Fire Mare had found itself within Ai Xi’s attack range.
Without a second of hesitation, Ai Xi opened its mouth and concentrated the aforementioned wind-type energy into one area. Morphing it into a green Wind Blade, it launched itself at the Fire Mare.
“Crap!” Unlike the Fire Mare who had kept its eyes on the road ahead the whole time, the middle-aged demon tamer took a glance at the situation behind. Therefore, he was able to quickly react right as Ai Xi conjured the Wind Blade. Abandoning the Fire Mare, he immediately jumped off its back.
Crack.
The Wind Blade had found its way to its target before the Fire Mare could even react. Along with blood spraying everywhere was the sound of the blade grinding against bones. The Fire Mare’s head split from its body and rolled onto the ground.
Due to the physics of inertia, the Fire Mare’s corpse continued to run for another few meters before it too fell to the ground. Any remaining signs of life were gone.
Thump.
Having jumped off, the middle-aged demon tamer fell ungracefully onto the ground. Suffering major scrapes, coupled with the mental shock from the death of his demon pet, the middle-aged demon tamer felt a tang of something sweet at the back of his throat before he sputtered out a cough of blood.
Despite his face paling sickly and his eyes hiding the epitome of fear, the middle-aged demon tamer did not lose faith. Holding on to his last shred of hope, he forcibly wielded his omniscience into a purple hexagram and summoned his cardinal demon pet.
Like many other demon tamers, the middle-aged demon tamer’s cardinal demon pet was hardly one of exceptional strength. Confined by its limitations, the cardinal demon pet was therefore seldom summoned for battle.
With the disappearance of the purple hexagram emerged a Corolla Monitor Lizard. From its aura, the Corolla Monitor Lizard seemed to still be held back by the limits of being a Lower Order demon pet.
“Hold it back!” At the middle-aged demon tamer’s instructions, the Corolla Monitor Lizard suppressed its own fear that threatened to bubble out and pounced towards Ai Xi.
Invisible Wind!
Another green flare flashed. Making use of the physiological afterimage caused, Ai Xi easily evaded its opponent and reappeared behind the Corolla Monitor Lizard.
Without giving the Corolla Monitor Lizard a chance to react at all, Ai Xi lifted its unsheathed right paw. Claws glowing a pearly white, it smacked against its opponent’s head ruthlessly.
Crack.
The sounds of cracking bones rang out, and with the burst of brain bits, the ground was splayed with red and white. The Corolla Monitor Lizard had not even been given the time to scream before it laid limply on the ground it once stood. Gone, without even a last twitch.
The middle-aged demon tamer’s eyes widened impossibly the very second the Corolla Monitor Lizard passed, meeting him were flecks of blood that splattered all over the ground. His head felt as if it had been pierced by needles from every direction, the agony indescribable and unimaginable less one had felt it before.
“Ah!” Cradling his head in his hands, the middle-aged demon tamer curled into a ball and rolled on the floor in pain. His voice an evident conveyance of the heart-wrenching pain and sadness, not unlike the howl of an ape in a barren valley. The vein above his temple popped as he bled from all of his orifices, resembling a hideous corpse.
The death of cardinal demon pets came with a rebound unrivaled in comparison to that of blood demon pets. Damage to the soul was the least of it, causing the tamer to become vegetative and comatose for the rest of their lives, while the worst-case scenario could lead to the annihilation of the soul of the demon tamer. A death so final one could not possibly be deader!
In the middle-aged demon tamer’s case, his soul did not seem to have been annihilated yet, but this was hardly any better since he was still in mental shock.
However, Ai Xi decided to free him of his pain and at the speed of lightning, it pounced towards the middle-aged demon tamer.
Ai Xi twisted its body mid-pounce, and with its tail that stood upright like a whip made of steel, it cut through the air and sliced at the middle-aged demon tamer’s neck.
Crack.
As Ai Xi whacked him heavily in the neck with its tail, the middle-aged demon tamer was sent backward with his neck twisted at a weird angle. No longer in pain, he reached his untimely end.
At the same time, the battle had also seemed to come to an end on the other side as well. The young demon tamer had not managed to run too far before he too was killed instantly, pierced in the heart by the Heaven’s Fowl’s Arrows of Light.
Having killed the young demon tamer, the Heaven’s Fowl flew over to aid the Gopher. Attacked by both demon pets, the Rock Anaconda was slowly backed into retreating. Defeat was only a question of when.
However, known for its defense skills, it would surely take time before the Rock Anaconda was defeated.
Yet right at that moment, the Rock Anaconda was found halted mid-movement before it curled its massive body tighter into himself. Lifting his head high towards the skies above, it let out an extremely distressing hiss.
Momentarily confused by the Rock Anaconda’s unexpected act, it was not long before a lightbulb went off in Li Changshen’s head and he understood what was going on.
It must have been the rebound from the middle-aged demon tamer’s death that caused the Rock Anaconda to go into mental shock.
Yet, it would only last a while before the Rock Anaconda managed to recover from the pain of the mental shock.
Not giving it a chance to recover, Li Changshen took its momentary lapse as an opportunity and had both the Heaven’s Fowl and the Gopher attack. The Rock Anaconda could only become a target practice board as it could not fight back, unable to escape from its fate with death today.
