Chapter 3: I’m Not the Absurd and Immodest One, You Are

When Su Ruoruo opened her eyes to find Su Ye beside her, her dazed and pained look was quickly replaced by wariness and hate. She shakily pushed herself to sit up, her gaze fierce as she snarled, “What more do you want, Su Ye? Are you trying to torment me in some other way, as if tying me to a pillar wasn’t enough?!”
Su Ye shook her head and said simply, “No, I’m not.”
However, those words made Su Ruoruo even more cautious. Her body shook as something seemed to cross her mind, and her tone was mocking as she sneered, “Father is not here, Su Ye, you don’t have to pretend.”
The sudden mention of their father left Su Ye dazed for a moment. “Huh?”
Su Ruoruo reached out with a thin hand to tug at the corner of her sheets, and glared at Su Ye before continuing hoarsely, “You were just jealous that Father tried to groom me—just because I’m adopted and you’re incompetent. How many times have you set me up since we were kids? Whenever Father was around, you would be crying and complaining, making everyone believe that I was the one bullying you!”
The more Su Ruoruo spoke, the darker her expression became, until she eventually clenched her teeth and spat, “You don’t deserve Father’s love, let alone the status of junior governor, Su Ye! You don’t deserve a thing!”
The room went dead silent.
Su Ye stared at Su Ruoruo, dumbfounded. Back when she had created Su Ruoruo as a character, she had described her as a cool beauty who was immeasurably reliable.
So… why did it feel like the actual person had a few screws loose?
And what did she mean when she said that Su Ye did not deserve the title of junior governor?
Did it matter whether she did or didn’t? Su Ye had been awarded that title because her father was the governor… Heck, there were probably plenty of people more deserving of the title, but the problem was that their fathers were not governors.
Additionally, Su Ruoruo had merely been Su Ye’s handmaiden back when they were children.
Su Ye had been friendless at the time because of her superstrength, and Su Ruoruo had been the only one who remained with her. As such, she had asked her father to adopt Su Ruoruo so that they could stay together. However, despite Su Ye’s hopes that they would grow closer, Su Ruoruo had been afraid of Su Ye all along.
After she was adopted, she got to share the same luxuries in life as Su Ye, but she left Su Ye behind, departing the city to study once she got the chance. That caused a rift between the two girls, which started Su Ye’s bullying tendencies.
If she had known that the intelligent ice queen Su Ruoruo was actually like this, she would have definitely written her as smarter.
Maybe then she would have been spared this nonsense.
The furious Su Ruoruo noticed that Su Ye didn’t seem the least bit sympathetic, and it got on her nerves. “What’s with that look, Su Ye? I’m not the absurd and immodest one, you are!”
Su Ye promptly regained her senses at Su Ruoruo’s taunt. Even so, she composed herself—she had to play nice with Su Ruoruo in hopes that they could make up.
As such, she humbly answered, “Yes, I am.”
However, those words somehow ignited Su Ruoruo’s rage even more, and the atmosphere in the room just worsened. Pointing at Su Ye, Su Ruoruo cried out angrily, “You!”
However, in the next instant, she coughed out a mouthful of blood and promptly fell back onto the bed, unconscious.
Su Ye merely stood there awkwardly. Had Su Ruoruo been knocked out from sheer frustration?
It was fortunate that her handmaiden’s voice rang out then: “Milady, the doctor has arrived.”
Su Ye wanted to take a closer look at Su Ruoruo, but paused and said, “Show him in.”
She looked up, briefly glancing back at the figure on the bed. Maintaining good relations was long-term work, and she had to take it slow. Right now, Su Ruoruo clearly hated her, and she probably would cough out blood or faint again if she woke up and found her still around.
