Seeker of First Light - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
‘Oh, my God… Is that him?’
Watching Naskan and Sol Noctis in quick succession, she was so surprised that her depressed feelings flew away little by little. Walking up from under the altar in a dark purple priestly robe with magical powers like flames, he was the devilkin that even Chryselua knew well.
Axen Arc!
Since the number of devilkins inside Sedition was small, there was a high probability that Axen Arc would be in charge of the ceremony. Still, she never thought she’d see him again in a place like this.
He lightly jumped up onto the altar, looked down at the audience below the altar, and met eyes with Chryselua, who was standing up.
‘Is he crazy?’
That was taboo.
Representatives on the altar had to recreate past history.
To do a splendid sword dance to show off, but not to be conscious of the audience. Even if the devilkins were deprived of their divine powers and escaped the duties of Sedition, that was an act that crossed the line.
Axen Arc even recognized Chryselua and smiled and even waved his hand. She never dreamed that he would even flirt in a situation like this.
As he raised one of his arms and prepared to fire his magic into the sky as per the procedure, Axen Arc did not direct his gaze upward. The purple eyes that looked straight at her the whole time didn’t escape.
In frustration, she stamped her feet.
‘Did that b*stard decide to ruin the ceremony…!’
Chryselua signaled Axen Arc by making gestures and even footsteps.
Look! Up! Do it! Properly!
However, he couldn’t hear what she was saying. Axen Arc shot his magic into the sky with his eyes fixed this way. The dark purple magic blended perfectly with the original two magic. There was no error in the standard shape.
Seeing that, she grabbed her head with both hands.
‘I’m more annoyed because he was doing well!’
However, that was just the beginning of Axen Arc’s crossing over the line. During the next process, his purple eyes followed her the whole time.
‘I told him not to look this way!’
She thought he would just look this way, but as Chryselua’s gestures got bigger and bigger, Axen Arc tried to follow suit. Axen Arc held up his arms wide as he pretended to conduct the ceremony. He was about to make a heart with both hands.
No! No! Don’t do it! Stop!
Chryselua drew a large X with her arm.
Because of the signals he kept sending to the audience, the people watching the ceremony would unconsciously take a look at the place where Chryselua was. Even Naskan, who was standing on the other side of the wide altar, glanced at her.
His cunning behavior was not to the extent of completely ruining the ceremony nor to the extent of distracting the audience’s attention. His order was completed without error, leaving only the poor Chryselua exhausted in the process.
Soon after, the last line of the part the devilkin was in charge of was flowing.
Do not forget
Please have mercy on us. ]
‘That’s really crazy—!’
In the end, that devilkin looked at this side until the end and even finished it. In the end, he even smiled at this side. Really… she didn’t know what made him feel so good.
With that, the first half of the ceremony was over.
Chryselua sat on the bench, clutching her forehead.
‘I’m the one trying…’
There was no point in even imagining it now, but if she had been confident in Naskan’s position, she would not have been able to respond calmly to such a thing. In the sky above the altar, high concentrations of magical energy from each of the three different tribes covered the sun like dark clouds.
Even one of them was far superior to hers.
“Ha…”
What if it was originally?
That was, if she did it as planned. No matter how much medicine she used and how far she progressed, such a magical cloud would not have been able to come out of her.
The first half of Naskan’s job was perfect as if he was the original one doing the ceremony. Axen Arc, a high-ranking devilkin, completed the work perfectly with an attitude that did not know if she was concentrating on the ceremony or not.
Sol Noctis…
“>Ha…”
At times like this, only the twilight herself became infinitely shabby.
Grit.
However, the guard trainees next to her easily got rid of such thoughts from Chryselua.
As one of them had noisily chewed a candy, she took a quick glance at them, intending to tell them not to eat it but to serve her one, but there was no sign that anyone was eating anything.
‘What… Am I hallucinating?’
If it was a stress hallucination, it was all because of Axen Arc.
Chryselua again focused on the ceremony on the altar.
The first half of the ceremony was conducted by three representatives, but the second half was held by a different representative every year. And this year, it was decided that the representative of the Spirit World would be in charge of the second half.
She naturally looked at Sol Noctis while waiting for the next turn. However, Sol Noctis didn’t move from a while ago.
“…What is that?”
One of Skylte’s trainees felt strange.
Sol Noctis stood motionless with a pale face.
“Has he forgotten the order?”
“No, really. Even if I don’t want to see that bastard, isn’t it a bit…”
Chryselua agreed. That was nonsense.
Sol Noctis, who entered Sedition, has not missed a single achievement so far. He didn’t even get the slightest reprimand. Sol Noctis, who was so perfect, couldn’t have done that. However, the pale face really did not seem to know the following order of the ceremony.
A buzzing sound began to spread.
“Ho, is he going down like that?”
“As expected, no matter how successful he is, he comes from a dry branch…”
As the people looking up at the ceremony had already started whispering, Chryselua’s heart skipped a beat.
“What? Is he really not ready?”
“He prepared hard. Unless he suddenly gets memory loss, there’s no way he would do that.”
The whispers began to turn into murmurs, and as soon as the word ‘memory loss’ came out, Chryselua’s heart sank.
Grit.
Crack.
She had heard something breaking earlier, but she couldn’t afford to pay attention to Sol Noctis. Even Naskan, who had only finished the divine world part at her request, was embarrassed and glanced at Sol Noctis.
Axen was also right next to him.
‘…What was he looking at?’
His tenacious gaze was not directed at her this time. It wasn’t even to the audience watching the ceremony. The sharp gaze was completely erased, of the sloppy smile was fixed on a certain place. Chryselua also looked at it casually.
And she saw it.
Crack. Creeeeaaaakk!
It should have been covered by the high concentration of magic, but for some reason, it was clearly visible to Chryselua.
A thin black line across the sky.
A rough shape, like broken glass.
‘…A crack?’
It was definitely a crack.
There was pitch-black darkness between the huge gaps in the sky. An eerie appearance that seemed to break the world coolly.
‘A crack in Sedition…?’
Sedition, where dragons, fairies, and devilkins gathered, was like a sanctuary. It was a representative place created to protect the world, so everyone made an effort to protect it. Because of that, she couldn’t believe that there was a crack in a place like this.
Creeeeaaaakk!!
And what was this ghastly sound? Couldn’t anyone hear this sound?
Sensing an unusual atmosphere, Naskan walked to the middle of the altar.
With one step, Naskan stretched out his hand into the air, and with two steps, he gathered the turbulent magic power into his one arm. In the last three steps, he swung the magic he had gathered in his hand toward one place.
Creeaak, Creak. Craaack. Crack!
With three simple gestures, the magic power that had been swirling in his hand was shot up to the place where the crack was just beginning to form.
Baaaaangg!
The flash of light extending in a straight line exploded as soon as it reached the crack. At that moment, a strong wind swept around the altar.
“Whoaaa…!”
All the magic clouds the three of them made in the first half of the ceremony flew away. The next moment, Naskan calmly entered the middle of the altar and took a sip of the wine prepared there. He also gave it to Axen Arc and Sol Noctis, who conducted the ceremony together.
