Day 8: Beautiful Metall!!
Holy Era 6102, Month of the Moon Rabbit, 21st day.
Weather: Rain
There was heavy rain today. And it was so sunny yesterday…
I don’t want to have to walk back in this rain. How depressing.
But as I thought this, some of the people who were returning in a carriage asked me if I wanted to go with them. It was more than I could have hoped for.
I thanked them politely and happily accepted. The connections you made with people really were important.
We arrived back at town shortly after midday. Carriages are so fast!!
By then, the rain had cleared up completely.
And so I hurried off to the guild in order to convert the silver ore I had mined yesterday.
Hehehe. Now, I would be a little rich!!
Is what I had thought…but the shocking truth was revealed to me.
It was, in fact, not silver ore!!
Though it resembled silver, it was called Fae-Silver, and amateurs were not able to tell them apart.
On top of that, it wasn’t even worth half of what silver was worth.
…What? But I dug so much?
As I looked at the guild lady with slightly tearful eyes, she gave me one piece of information. While this Fae-Silver wasn’t worth that much when it came to money, it was actually quite good when used as a material for weapons and armor.
After hearing this, I frantically visited the old man at the armor and weapons store.
At first, the old man looked at me doubtfully, but his eyes widened when I took out the Fae-Silver.
He asked where I had acquired it, and so I answered honestly. He was even more surprised then.
Apparently, you could only mine it in the lower levels of mines with kobolds, and so it was almost miraculous that a beginner Adventurer like me had been able to mine it. …From now on, I would have to remember to always bring cheese with me.
So, as for how the Fae-Silver was used, it was combined with other metals to make an alloy.
This alloy was called Balto. It was harder than iron and didn’t rust easily. …What! This was some beautiful metal!!
And so I immediately wanted to make some armor with it, but the price was too expensive… What? It costs that much even if I bring in the materials?
When I asked about this, I was told that working with Fae-Silver was very difficult. That was one of the reasons why it wasn’t popular, in spite of being very useful and not very rare.
As my shoulders slumped with the disappointment of reality, the old man had a surprising suggestion.
In exchange for taking half of the Fae-Silver, he would make me some armor without additional fees.
I was very surprised when I heard this. But he said that it was to celebrate the great luck of a starting Adventurer. What an odd reason… Uh, no. I was grateful, yes.
However, it still wasn’t possible to make everything from scratch, and so there was nothing to do but take my current sword and leather armor and modify it.
As he was just remaking them, if he started now, he said that he could be finished by tomorrow.
I thanked the old man and left my gear and Fae-Silver with him before leaving the store.
Tonight, I’m staying at my regular inn, which is definitely a candidate for becoming my main base. These proper meals really are delicious.
Today’s earnings and expenses:
Bronze: -14(Inn)
————————–
Balance: 1 silver, 26 bronze
☆^(o≧▽゚)o Yes! I’m so grateful for the old man’s kindness. I can’t wait to see my new gear!!
