Chapter 55 – There Was An Uproar, In The House Of Ideos
Sierra hurried out of the warehouse a few minutes later as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, Ijiel sat down on the floor, frustrated. He chuckled as he glanced at the doorway where Sierra had walked out straight.
‘…Fortunately, I didn’t tell her my last secret.’
Although Sierra’s potion was the truth potion, she didn’t force him to answer questions she didn’t ask. It was quite fortunate in that regard.
Ijiel muttered to himself as he staggered through the doorway.
“Anyhow…”
…Sierra was a very interesting woman.
Thinking that, a dimpled smile was drawn on his lips.
“I really like her.”
It was certainly his unexpected harvest to have learned about Sierra’s existence.
I feel like I can understand now why Cassius likes that woman.
Ijiel leisurely walked out of the door with that in mind. Now that the magic had been lifted, it was time now for him to go to the Imperial Palace.
Ijiel entered the Imperial Princess’ Palace.
He didn’t know if it had been ventilated for a long time or if there was any problem, though the Imperial Princess’ Palace was very cold. The maids shuddered as they grit their teeth. He thought it was because the tea was suspicious, although the Head Lady-in-waiting hastily urged him to enter the reception room.
“It’s getting quite chilly, my lord.”
Even though she hinted at it as a metaphor, the Imperial Princess just laughed it off without saying anything. She already looked half-drunk.
Ijiel sat down opposite where the Imperial Princess was sitting and stared at her.
“Did something happen?”
“A lot has happened.”
The Imperial Princess smiled, then tried to pull out the pipe under the table and was about to smoke [tnote keyword=”hookah”] Hookahs are water pipes used to smoke specially made tobacco that comes in different flavors.[/tnote] , but she paused her hand.
“Ah… not like this.”
Though there was a hint of exhaustion in her languid expression, it was just a fleeting moment. Her eyes suddenly became clearer, and she turned to Ijiel.
“You… Tell me what happened. Didn’t you go to meet Sierra?”
“You’re right. But…”
Ijiel, who had been resting for a while, stated clearly in a low voice, “Nothing was special about her. She was an ordinary woman.”
“Your face is pretty flushed from that.”
“Well, isn’t it Your Royal Highness who is making that face?”
Ijiel accepted that softly.
However, it was different for the Imperial Princess. She stared at him with an unusual, moderately relaxed expression and immediately sighed. He could tell by the look on her face — that she was certainly unable to carry out her purpose.
“…It looks like your meeting with Duke Ideos didn’t go well?”
The Imperial Princess smiled dejectedly and poured champagne into the champagne glass on the table.
“I failed.”
“I see.”
It didn’t come as a surprise.
Cassius Ideos’ level of feelings could be easily noticed by anyone. His heart was only geared towards Sierra. She was a woman he loved very much to the point that he even considered the revision of marriage law, so there was no way he would fall for the Imperial Princess’ persuasion.
It was only the Imperial Princess who had no idea about it. Now, she was in a hurry that she didn’t know what everyone knew. If she loved him, or that she must definitely marry him… There must be a reason behind it that even Ijiel didn’t know about.
“First of all… yeah, I said she was just a nobody. I could’ve easily convinced him with gold and silver, but why does he have to go back soon?”
“In the first place, Duke Ideos doesn’t seem to be particularly interested in either gold and silver.”
Even though it was mixed with his own thoughts, it wasn’t wrong at all.
‘I think you’re more interested in other things other than Cassius. For example…’
As Ijiel tilted her head intently as she pondered about Sierra, the Imperial Princess lowered her teacup on the table with a look of her pride being hurt.
“Sierra doesn’t seem to be particularly interested in Cassius…”
“Yes.”
“I’ll have to think about another operation.”
Ijiel knew he was overstepping his boundaries, nonetheless, he continued while facing the Imperial Princess straight.
“Your Royal Highness, are you determined not to give up on Duke Ideos?”
“Yes.”
Even if she knew it was an unnecessary addition, she couldn’t stop herself from continuing her words, “…There is a reason I cannot give up.”
“I don’t think your reason is just love.”
At his words, she took a sip on her champagne glass again. Her sweet, low-pitched voice rang softly around.
“I… can’t say any more to you. You can go out.”
Looking at Ijiel’s back, the Imperial Princess slowly crossed her other leg over the other. On the other hand, he stared at his client’s half-flushed face, clicking his tongue a few times.
‘Fine, I also find Sierra more interesting than Her Royal Highness.’
He smiled inwardly and nodded.
“I understand. I will meet you again if I have anything else to report.”
Particularly since you’re a double agent, she said.
Since it was true that he was planning on carrying out the Imperial Princess’ commission moderately.
Ijiel had no reason to betray the Imperial Princess as his task to perform was actually simple. It was only about sorting information about Sierra and Duke Ideos and informing the Imperial Princess. On the premise that ‘They should cooperate with the wedding.’
‘I’m not interested in the marriage between Duke Ideos and the Imperial Princess.’
It was like he was being a double agent but not being a double spy by some means… because he was still planning on carrying out the Imperial Princess’ commission properly.
The moment Ijiel was standing at the door proudly without much guilt, the Imperial Princess that was glancing at his back quietly opened her mouth.
“Now that we’re on the topic.”
“What is it?”
“Don’t come when my brother stops by the palace. Though it was only once a month so you won’t necessarily bump into each other.”
“….”
“Since you won’t see each other as good.”
Ijiel slowly turned around and answered.
“All right.”
The Crown Prince, who had a reputation for being weak, was now reborn as the prodigal son of the Imperial Palace.
I’ve heard rumors that he was rather good at playing poker….
‘Is this enough to be vigilant…?’
Even though Ijiel wasn’t really interested in the Crown Prince, he had to pay some attention as he was the Master of the information guild. Thinking of the Crown Prince, he opened the palace doors with his own hands and escaped outside.
The attendant who was waiting to open the door looked at him with a perplexed expression.
‘…I don’t like this situation.’
Ijiel was too free to be treated like this. He shrugged and turned around.
