She actually noticed a trace of nervousness in his eyes. If this wasn’t a dream, what was it?
“If you didn’t ask me to cook, I wouldn’t have cut my hand!” Shannon suddenly pulled her hand out of his.
‘Max stood up with the iodine and band-aid in his hand, then overbearingly pulled her hand towards him and held it, before gently bandaging her wound.
Shannon’s heart was in a mess. She really couldn’t guess what he was trying to do. Could it be that he felt a little guilty over the baby?
“What should I do with this?” Shannon, who was deep in thought, was pushed aside by Max. With a knife in his hand, he looked at Shannon with a questioning gaze.
She was even more surprised. What was he doing? In the past, he had never stepped into the kitchen.
“There’s no need to cook. I’ve already cooked two dishes that are in the oven and they will be ready soon.” Shannon turned around and went to the dining room.
After drinking the entire afternoon, she still had a splitting headache.
“Finish this.” Max’s cold voice was heard, and a cup of water appeared on the table.
She looked up at him and drank it obediently. He had really changed a lot.
“Why are you suddenly so good to me?” Shannon couldn’t help but stand up and approach Max.
‘Max sat on the sofa and looked up at Shannon. He frowned slightly.
“Tm just treating you like an ordinary person. What are you thinking?” Max’s tone was a little cold.
His feigned tone made Shannon’s heart ache. This meant that she couldn’t even compare to an ordinary person, because he had never treated her like this before.
“Lunderstand now. Then you should treat me like a stranger in the future. I don’t want to have anything to do with you.” Shannon tured around and walked to the dining room and sat down. Her hands had started trembling again.
‘Why was she the only one who was so useless, always thinking about the past?
“Tm afraid I’m not just a stranger. I should be your creditor now. You drank my precious red wine. This bottle of red wine is worth two hundred thousand dollars.” Max walked towards her coldly, but there was a hint of playfulness in his eyes.
Shannon frowned. What? Two hundred thousand dollars? How could a bottle of wine be so expensive?
“Tl pay you. I can still afford it.” Shannon was extremely agitated.
Max’s lips curled into a cold smile. It seemed like she was still unaware of the situation.
“Do you know that you’re being investigated? All your assets have been frozen. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t even be able to eat now.” Max sat opposite Shannon, his tone mocking.
It was only then that Shannon recalled this matter. Her eyes were filled with bitterness. Was she going to lose all her income?
“I don’t have anything to do with those prosecutors. I can—”
“An investigation takes time. At least for now, you really don’t have any money, so you’d better not do anything to make me unhappy,” Max warned coldly. With that, he got up to bring the dishes out.
Shannon looked at his figure, fury burning inside her heart.
How did things turn out like this? She felt extremely depressed. She had worked so hard for so long, but she still couldn’t change the situation. She didn’t know how much longer she could last.
The two of them ate in silence. Shannon was still worried about where she would sleep at night.
She hadn’t taken a good look at the house since she entered it, so she didn’t know how many bedrooms there were.
“There’s no need to look. There’s only one bedroom here.” Max seemed to know what she was thinking.
Shannon was not in the mood to eat after hearing the news. It didn’t seem safe for her to sleep in the living room, but he was definitely going to sleep in the bedroom.
“You only have one choice. I don’t have any extra quilts in my house.” Max’s eyes were filled with amusement.
Shannon smirked. Was he joking? She had to sleep with him?
“Ican sleep on the sofa. I don’t need a blanket, just a throw blanket will do.” Shannon got up and walked towards the sofa.
Max frowned at Shannon. Why was she so stubborn now?
Shannon covered herself with a throw blanket on the sofa, hoping that she could leave the next morning. She had to quickly find evidence to prove her innocence.
Hence, she fell asleep on the sofa.
However, when she woke up in the middle of the night, she realized that she was sleeping on a big bed. She got up ina panic and realized that there was no one else in the room.
Everything that had happened yesterday surfaced in her mind. She got up and sat on the bed, thinking of a solution.
She had to leave this place. Only when she left could she find a way to deal with Janice.
The clock on the wall showed it was one o’clock in the morning. Shannon couldn’t fall asleep anymore. She got up and walked out, only to find someone lying on the sofa.
She thought he would leave, but he actually slept on the sofa. Did he carry her to the bed?
Shannon turned around and went back into the bedroom to open the wardrobe, hoping to find more throw blankets. However, when she opened the wardrobe, she realized that there were no women’s clothes here.
Hadn’t Janice been here before?
Abitter smile suddenly appeared on her face. What was the point of thinking about this now?
She looked up and saw that there were several high-grade quilts neatly placed on the top shelf.
He actually lied to her? But why did he lie to her? Could it be that he harbored some feelings towards her?
Shannon stood in front of the wardrobe in a daze, but she came back to her senses in an instant. He was the one who said that he wanted a divorce, and he was the reason why her baby was killed! How could she think about this now?
Even when she thought of these sad things, she still took out the quilt and gently walked to the living room to cover him.
She then returned to his bedroom and sat there in a daze.
She sat by the window and watched the sun gradually rise. She had to admit that Max’s view in this house was really good. She could even watch the sunrise here.
The alarm clock suddenly rang, and Max was startled awake. He immediately got up to wash up and when he saw the quilt on the sofa, he fell deep in thought.
“pack up and have breakfast with me.” Max pushed open the bedroom door and spoke to Shannon.
However, he didn’t see her on the bed, instead, he saw her sitting by the window. Was this woman so guarded against him that she didn’t sleep the entire night?
“Don’t you know that not sleeping will only make you more stupid? Especially when it comes to you, who’s already brainless!” Max suddenly flared up.
Shannon walked away from the window, looking exhausted.
Was it her fault that she couldn’t sleep? There were so many nights like this in the past three years. Wasn’t he the very reason why she couldn’t sleep?
“Whether I’m stupid or not has nothing to do with you. I won’t be eating breakfast. Please lend me some money. I want to go home.” Shannon walked to the door and reached her hand out to Max.
Max held her hand and dragged her out, the anger in his eyes continuing to burn.
“If you don’t eat breakfast, I won’t give you any money.” Max pushed her to the bathroom, took out some new toiletries from the cabinet, and left.
Shannon frowned. He was always so domineering. Nothing had changed.
After washing up, she went to look for her phone. She could just call Pete to pick her up..
