Chapter 56: Can’t Forget Each Other

“As your buddy, I’m telling you now, you are not allowed to touch this woman.” Max wamed Jason coldly.
With that, he left the cafe, leaving Jason alone in confusion.
However, Jason didn’t intend to give up on hiring Shannon. After all, he had no intention of touching Shannon anyway.
Since Max knew Shannon, shouldn’t he be giving her business?
Pa!
Shannon was furious when she returned to the law firm. She threw her cup onto the ground, causing it to shatter.
Why was it that others could easily forget about the past, but she had put in so much effort and still couldn’t do so?
“shannon, what’s wrong?” Tasha looked worried when she heard the commotion in Shannon’s office.
Shannon sat on her chair, tears welling up in her eyes.
He was always so domineering, and it seemed like everyone had to listen to him. However, they were already unrelated!
“1m fine. 1 accidentally dropped the cup.” Shannon didn’t tell Tasha what had happened.
She wasnt afraid of Max at all, and he wouldn’t kill her.
After getting to know Tasha, Shannon knew that it was impossible for her to take on Jason’s case. Only she could give Jason what he deserved.
“Are you feeling unwell? Are you not eating properly again? As lawyers, we work long hours, so you must take care of yourself. You don’t look too good. Shall we go for a meal together?” Tasha pulled Shannon’s hand and dragged her out.
The two of them ordered a table of exquisite dishes. Shannon kept stuffing food into her mouth. Her eyes and nose were sore, so the food was tasteless.
But she forced herself to eat. She had to live, and live well at that.
“What’s wrong with you? What happened? Did Jason do something to you?” Tasha looked anxious and snatched Shannon’s fork away.
Shannon sat there with a dull expression. What she was facing was hundreds of times scarier than Jason.
“1m fine. I’ve been alone in New York for the past few years, so there’s nothing I haven’t encountered. You don’t have to worry about me at all.” Shannon composed herself, picked up her bag from the table, and returned to the law firm with Tasha.
However, Tasha had already sensed that something was wrong with Shannon. She quickly called Matthew and asked him to come to the law firm.
In no time, Matthew arrived at the law firm. When he saw Shannon sitting there in a daze, he immediately guessed what had happened.
After so long, he could already tell that Shannon still liked Max, but she mistook her feelings for just hatred.
“How is it? Is there something wrong?” Tasha stood beside Matthew with a worried expression.
Matthew pulled Tasha back to her office. He wanted to take Shannon out for a walk, but he held himself back when he saw Shannon’s expression.
“She’s fine. She can handle it. However, you have to watch over her. It’s best if you send her home tonight.” Matthew knew that Shannon would always be in a daze whenever she saw Max.
However, she would recover in a few days, after she gradually regained her rationality.
Tasha promised Matthew that she would send Shannon home that night.
When Shannon returned home, her heart was still in a mess. Max’s warning kept ringing in her ears. He wasn’t warning her because he cared about her, but because he was worried that his reputation would be ruined.
She turned on her computer and continued researching Jason’s case. The more afraid he was, the more she would do it.
Max’s mind was also in a mess. Because of the meeting with Shannon in the moming, he wasn’t able to work much the entire day.
“Sir, it’s getting late. Let’s go back.” Jake was suddenly worried when he saw Max sitting there.
After following Max for so many years, he had never seen anyone who could make him lose his focus.
Max stood up and walked out, while Jake immediately opened the car door.
“Sir, Imow that there are some things that I shouldn’t say, but I don’t think Miss Zanders is like other women. You don’t have to worry.” Jake couldn’t help but say this as he drove and looked at Max’s solemn face in the rearview mirror.
Max looked up with a cold glint in his eyes.
“shut up,” Max spat out coldly. He undid his tie and threw it aside, then leaned back on the car seat.
He closed her eyes and pretended to be relaxed, but his mind was filled with thoughts of Shannon and Jason together.
Why did Jason look for Shannon? Could there be such a coincidence?
Max already made up his mind that Shannon was doing this to take revenge on him.
At the thought that Jason’s flirtatious eyes would be sizing up Shannon’s body, anger inexplicably rose in his heart.
Just as Max was feeling vexed, his phone suddenly rang.
His mother’s name appeared on the screen. Max frowned and picked up his phone.
“Speak,” Max spat out coldly.
Sandra looked irritated as she read the news about Shannon.
“Max, why did that woman appear here again? And why is there so much news about her? Have you met her yet? Was she the woman you saved a few days ago?” Sandra asked.
Max only felt extremely irritated. He frowned tightly, and the anger in his eyes gradually surfaced.
“I don’t need you to meddle in my affairs. What you need to do is go shopping and have tea, and splurge wherever you go. If there’s nothing else, don’t contact me,” Max replied coldly to his mother.
Sandra threw the newspaper aside, and her expression immediately became agitated.
“What do you mean by none of my business? Aren’t I your mother? Let me tell you, since both of you are already divorced, don’t cause any trouble. Janice is a good life partner, and I don’t have to stress that she’s also good for the business, right?” Sandra was extremely agitated. She couldn’t wait for Janice
and Max to get married right now.
Max sneered, and a bitter smile appeared on his face.
His mother had never cared about anything related to him, apart from the Wenley Corporation.
“Like I said, you don’t have to care.” Max hung up coldly.
Sandra wanted to say something else, but the screen had already turned black.
She knew her son well, so she didn’t call him again.
Max threw his phone aside. Janice had been quite active recently, and she had even learned how to force a marriage.
If he was forced to marry a woman, what would he need a big company like the Wenley Corporation for?
Max returned home, but the darkness in the house deepened his frustration. It seemed as though he could spot Shannon’s presence here.
He turned around and walked towards the bedroom, then fell asleep without even changing his clothes.
It was only when he was asleep that her presence wouldn’t be felt.
The next day, morning light shone into the house through the window.
Max got up from the bed, and Jake brought breakfast over. Max was attending a very important seminar today.
Shannon took her sleeping pills and slept past nine o’clock. Before she woke up, her phone rang continuously.
