Shannon’s eyes were filled with self-reproach. Max had never been so impulsive. She didn’t expect him to really beat Jason up.
“can’t go to the hospital. If anything happens to me, my family will definitely know about it. I don’t want to cause any suspicion, since it’ll create unnecessary trouble.” Jason was most concerned about the lawsuit.
After hearing this, Shannon left Jason’s company, feeling extremely depressed. Max was really too overbearing.
Could it be that she would never be able to defend male clients anymore? But she was a lawyer, she couldn’t just lock herself up at home everyday and do nothing, could she?
Shannon took a taxi home, feeling increasingly frustrated as she thought about this. Eventually, she picked up her phone and called Max.
However, Max had been busy and didn’t pick up her calls.
Shannon lay on the sofa and fell asleep with her phone in her arms. However, she was jolted awake by the loud clapping of thunder outside.
She immediately got up, feeling nervous.
Shannon covered her ears, but the noise was still loud and clear. The memories flooded her mind again.
She tried her best to calm herself down, but she couldn’t stop trembling.
The doorbell suddenly rang. Shannon trembled violently and ran to the kitchen to get a knife, then slowly approached the door.
Max Wenley? Why was he here?
Shannon placed the knife aside and leaned against the door. The piercing sound of the doorbell rang over and over again.
“What are you doing here? Are you going to beat me up after hitting Jason?” Shannon hesitated for a moment before opening the door.
‘When she looked up, she realized that Max’s eyes were red, and his body seemed to be unstable.
“What’s wrong?” Shannon’s anger and fear disappeared when she saw him in this state.
Max walked into the house and closed the door, then looked at Shannon furiously.
“Why were you with Jason?” Max grabbed her wrist and questioned her.
Shannon immediately felt irritated. She hadn’t even questioned him, but he was already here looking for trouble.
“Max, are you mad? Jason and I did meet a few times, but that was all for the sake of the case. In your heart, am I just a loose woman who only knows how to seduce men every day?” Shannon struggled free from Max, her tone filled with disgust.
The anger in Max’s eyes burned even more fiercely. He had been in the same school as Jason since they were young, This playboy had already started changing girlfriends frequently in junior high, and he was well aware of that.
“Really? Jason doesn’t want you as his lawyer anymore. Why did you still chase him down to his office? Do you just want to get involved with any man who is wealthy?” Max raised his voice unconsciously.
Shannon tumed around and walked towards the sofa, her eyes filled with anger. He was really being ridiculous. Nothing had happened at all, but he had to misunderstand her like this.
“Max Wenley, you’re the President of the Wenley Corporation. Don’t you think that what you are doing is not appropriate? No matter who I’m with, you always think that there’s something wrong between us. This time, you hit Jason, but what about the next time? Are you trying to turn yourself into a
tyrant? What exactly are you after?” Shannon met his furious gaze, her tone extremely cold.
Max sneered. Tyrant?
“Why did you come back?” Max looked at Shannon’s face, still set on the idea that she had returned to take revenge.
Shannon suddenly sneered. He actually asked her this question. How badly did he not want to see her?
“Why? Did my return ruin your plans? This is my hometown, and I grew up here. Even if I die, I should return to my roots, right? Don’t you think your question is ridiculous?” Shannon was getting angrier.
She turned around to open the door, wanting him to chase him out, but Max pulled her over and pressed her against the door.
“Why? Why did you have to let me see you?” Max was in a daze, and his cold eyes suddenly became unfocused.
Shannon frowned. What was wrong with him?
Max hated the feeling of being affected by Shannon. He had never lost his mind because of any woman, but today, he had beaten someone up for Shannon, and that person was even his buddy.
His eyes stared fixedly at Shannon’s lips. It was as though her face could cleanse all the frustration in his heart.
Shannon was a little stunned. She didn’t know what was wrong with him, but he seemed to be burning. She could feel his warm breath.
Suddenly, his lips approached hers. She immediately wanted to push him away, but before she could exert any force, Max suddenly slid away from her and collapsed onto the ground. It was raining cats and dogs outside, and Shannon instantly panicked.
She subconsciously touched his forehead, and felt a burning sensation. He was running a fever. It was summer, so why was he running a fever?
Shannon took out her phone, preparing to call the ambulance, but she stopped after pressing the button.
If an ambulance came here to pick him up, they would definitely be photographed. It was already late at night, and if this incident appeared on the news again, she wouldn’t be able to explain herself.
Shannon dragged Max onto the sofa with all her might, then ran upstairs to get a blanket and covered him with it. He had always been in good health, why would he suddenly have a fever?
“Max, are you faking it? I’ll get Jake to pick you up.” After some thought, Shannon still felt that it wasn’t suitable for him to stay here.
She picked up her phone and called Jake, but the call didn’t go through.
Shannon had no choice but to get up to look for fever meds. Fortunately, Pete had been considerate and prepared many types of medicine for her.
“Take this, it’s for your fever.” Shannon shoved the medicine into Max’s mouth, but he didn’t react.
Shannon gradually became nervous. If he couldn’t swallow the pill, how was he going to recover?
She had no choice but to put the medicine in the water and dilute it for Max. However, Max, who was already unconscious from the fever, was not swallowing it.
Shannon was so anxious that her forehead was covered in sweat. If this continued, his condition might really be bad.
There was only one way now. Shannon suddenly thought of the melodramatic scenes in television shows.
She never expected such a scenario to really occur in her life.
It was pouring outside. Even if the ambulance came, she would still have to stay up the entire night, and she might even be photographed.
At the thought of this, Shannon suddenly took a sip of the medicine-infused water, and leaned down towards Max.
Their lips met, and Shannon fed him the medicine.
Max felt stifled. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and he finally swallowed the bitter liquid.
Shannon felt her entire body covered in sweat. She was really unlucky.
After Max took the medicine, his temperature gradually dropped. Shannon stayed by his side, touching his forehead continuously.
His phone kept ringing beside him, and Shannon felt extremely irritated. She picked the phone up and saw that Janice was the one calling..
