Starting From the Dragon Tribe
Chapter 44: You’re preparing to fail a course?
“Principal, what is that piece of technology you were referring to?” Lu Chen instantly targeted the main point of the topic.
“You’ll know when Valery returns. If you don’t rest a few days after just finishing your first mission, it’s inevitable you’ll get tired, hm?” Anjou smiled. The Lionheart Society’s secret library was a treasure trove. The boy will undoubtedly slowly dig through it.
“Not too tired, actually. It’s just that this mission was a bit tedious. I thought I’d be able to immediately fight,” Lu Chen complained.
“It seems your teacher truly trained you to be an outstanding fighter. As a member of the Secret Society, loving combat is no bad thing. I’d heard Fremont already requested for you to be a part of the Execution Bureau. What do you think of it?” Anjou examined the youth in front of him.
“I heard that this AA mission can get me a lot of merit points? But what exactly are they for; can they guarantee that I don’t fail a course?” Lu Chen suddenly inquired about academics.
Anjou froze for a moment, “They can indeed be converted to cover for a course, but are you preparing to fail a course?”
The school’s students were proud of the merit points they gained from combat practice class and their A-level completion records, but for them, it was just the icing on the cake. What was more important was honor. It was the first time he saw someone try to make up for a deficit in grades using merit points gained from an AA-level mission, especially when that person just started his freshman year.
Lu Chen was a bit embarrassed as well, “…Principal, you also know that I never received higher education before. Those alchemic chemistry courses are way too hard for me, I’m really struggling in them.”
“Then your intention is?”
“Can you let me complete more missions in order to make up for those classes?” Lu Chen was sincere. He revealed his hand: he sucked at school.
Anjou looked as Lu Chen left his office and couldn’t help but laugh to himself, “This kid.” In reality, even if Lu Chen had not mentioned this matter, he would have done the same anyway. After all, historically, every Lionheart Society president was part of the Execution Bureau, ready to respond to any mission.
If Valery returned and left his position, then it was logical for Lu Chen to enter the Execution Bureau, but he didn’t expect Lu Chen’s reason for wanting to go out and carry out missions was for fear of failing his courses.
Also, if Lu Chen lacked merit points because of his classes, then he’d become the first S-grade in history to be demoted due to failing his courses, which would be incredibly embarrassing.
That boy’s roommate should be Finger. It’d be good for him to go out more, lest he also catch the lazy disease.

“Junior brother, ever since you came back, our Information Department has become so much busier,” upon returning to the dormitory, the first thing Lu Chen saw was Finger clacking away at his keyboard.
“What?” Lu Chen put down the “afternoon tea” he brought from the cafeteria when he passed it. The pastries at the principal’s place were really good, but the quantity was too small.
“See for yourself.” Finger pushed himself back by using the table.
Lu Chen walked over and looked at the screen.
“First mission, AA-level, S-grade freshman flawlessly finishes it!”
“Shocking: the high-risk hybrid that rendered the Execution Bureau agents helpless was terminated in a single slash by the S-grade.”
“Have you ever seen a gale before? Victim’s POV.”
“Split Second is useless? No, it’s you who are useless!”
“……”
The corners of Lu Chen’s mouth twitched, “Some of the posts here are leaking the details of the mission, right? Is this not a violation?”
“No pictures means no proof, who cares about this blather? Besides, they were only commenting on the battle, not the mission itself,” Finger shrugged. As a professional paparazzi, there were few headlines he was afraid of posting.
“Now, you’re the talk of the Nightwatchers forum. The difference was too great; those veteran Execution Bureau agents were fodder compared to a freshman like you. No choice but to admit that bloodline theory is reasonable.”
Finger pulled down the menu on the forum, and almost half of the hot posts were about Lu Chen.
Lu Chen also checked his current reputation. He gained 100 upon mission completion. Theoretically, he should have 150 points, but it actually rose up to 220. It seemed like publicity had an effect as well. He reckoned that he would gain more reputation if he were to complete more missions.
“Be honest, how does it feel?” Finger puckered his lips.
“Nothing really, I only cut down a lunatic,” Lu Chen sat down and began his real “afternoon tea.”
“No hesitation at all? Or was it when you saw your Senior Sister about to be defiled, you cut him down in a heat of passion?” Finger snickered.
“What are you getting at? It’s only right to rescue a classmate,” Lu Chen nearly choked.
“What I asked wasn’t what you feel about the mission. What I asked you is, between Milana and Lutecia, which one is your destiny?”
Finger did indeed deserve his title of the King of Gossip. Lu Chen knew that if he so much as leaked a crumb of information, a new hot topic would overtake the Nightwatchers forum.
“They’re great as classmates and as friends,” Lu Chen said tersely.
Finger tsked, “Junior Brother, this statement really makes you look like a cur.”
“A cur?” Lu Chen hadn’t heard of this term, but it sounded like a derogatory term.
“It’s when you don’t reject, don’t respond, and don’t take responsibility in the face of female advances,” Finger answered seriously.
“Then what should I do to not be considered a cur?” Lu Chen bit into a meat bun.
“I, your Senior Brother, am merely kidding. Junior Brother, you certainly do not count as a cur. I suppose that after this incident, there will be a lot more admiring female classmates, and you won’t be able to—deal with them all,” Finger snorted. “I hear that you will soon succeed the president of Lionheart?”
“Perhaps. Senior Brother Valery hasn’t returned yet.”
“Afterwards, are you planning on submitting your name to the Execution Bureau in order to carry out missions?”
“I’m thinking—Senior Brother, you know as well—that the Alchemic Machinery Engineering class is too hard for me. I can use this opportunity to make up for my merit points, so that I don’t actually end up cheating off Chu Zihang at the end of the semester,” Lu Chen drank a mouthful of water to clear his throat. Chu Zihang was very loyal, but also quite stubborn. Every time Lu Chen borrowed his homework to copy, Chu Zihang would advise him seriously to pay attention in class, and if he didn’t understand, he could teach him.
Since he was able to gain merit points legitimately, of course he wouldn’t bother cheating.
“But Junior Brother, you’re only a freshman. I’m telling you, don’t get so fired up just because of this mission. There are way harder missions that the Execution Bureau handles, ones that deal with pureblood dragonkin, maybe even 3rd generation species. They’re really dangerous,” Finger said seriously.
“All the better,” Lu Chen grinned.
“Then it seems, Junior Brother, that you were born to work for the Execution Bureau. Since that’s the case, then I won’t nag anymore. But remember, whenever you carry out a mission, remember to give your Senior Brother some spoils,” Finger switched to a sly smile, as if to beg.
“Senior Brother, why do you not graduate?” Lu Chen suddenly asked. He more or less had understood the workings of Cassell College, and along with his Mystic Warrior eyes, he could easily tell that this feckless senior brother was actually very strong.
In a footrace, if nothing else, Senior Brother could probably run faster than even Chu Zihang.
Failing classes could lower a person’s blood grade, but could not lower a person’s true bloodline.
“Hehe, if I were to graduate, wouldn’t I be thrown into a world of suffering? Being at school is very comfortable, and not to mention that there are several classes I still can’t pass,” Finger shook his head.
Lu Chen saw this, and decided to not pursue any further. Everyone had their own secrets; Finger did, and so did he.
