Starting From the Dragon Tribe
Chapter 55: This combat attire? Too ugly, I don’t want it!
“So the conclusion is that within the warlord’s home exists an awakened dragon?” Lu Chen then asked.
Yet Merry shook her head, “If the exalted 3rd generation species is already awake, then it wouldn’t have used something like Hypnosis. And no agents would have walked out of that warlord’s home alive either.”
Lu Chen froze, thinking that it made sense. For a high dragon to use Hypnosis to drive the agents away meant that it was trying to avoid a conflict. It had to be because it had no other means that it did that, for the pride of the dragon clan would make the dragon directly appear and extinguish those who were pursuing it otherwise.
“So, we’ve come to the conclusion that the 3rd generation dragon should still be in a dormant state, hypnotizing the agents only out of a defensive instinct. That warlord should also have been hypnotized to do its bidding and protect the bronze coffin. Understand that the college previously had offered to directly buy it, and the proposed price was completely appropriate, yet he refused in a devious manner.”
“Then I’m guessing the bronze coffin is no longer in the warlord’s home?”
“That’s right. That 3rd generation species must have detected something unusual, so by manipulating the warlord, it was buried back within, likely in that unusual area of Namaqualand, which is where the agents are now probing.”
“Why not directly let Professor Toyama hypnotize the warlord to reveal the burial place?” Though Lu Chen asked this, he more or less already figured out what would happen.
“That warlord committed suicide, along with others who also were involved. Hypnosis done by a 3rd generation species cannot be resisted by ordinary people.”
Lu Chen thought that Hypnosis was a frightening ability. He vowed to never receive Professor Toyama’s psychological counseling in this lifetime, even if he was confident in his own mental fortitude.
“Then, since the college knows the general location of that 3rd generation species, why don’t they just raze the entire area? From what I know, with today’s technology, it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to kill a sleeping 3rd generation, right?” Lu Chen was puzzled. If it was as Merry said, that the bastard was still asleep, then the college had no need to send him over here. Underground rockets were no joke, and with the Secret Party’s “haphazard” methodology, it would easily be able to burn a place as dilapidated as Namaqualand to the ground if it wanted to.
“It was the will of the School Board. They want you to handle this mission,” Merry expectantly looked at Lu Chen.
“The School Board? The college’s investors?” It was Lu Chen’s first time hearing of this. He had thought that the principal of Cassell College had the greatest authority, but this group overstepped his authority to command him.
“Cassell College is funded by the School Board. Principal Anjou is only the Secret Party’s representative, while the School Board holds the highest authority. This time, the mission was directed by the School Board, but Principal Anjou also gave his nod of approval. In this mission, their goals happen to align, as the Ice Cellar in Cassell College lacks some goods,” Merry’s intent couldn’t be more obvious.
Lu Chen laughed dumbfoundedly, “They really saw something in me huh? Does that mean they want me to capture it alive?”
Merry went quiet, “…You are an S-grade, so of course everyone has high hopes for you.”
Lu Chen stretched his neck, which had gotten stiff after such a long flight, then grinned, “Geezers move they mouths a ‘lil, making young’uns run ‘til they break they legs, eh.”
At that moment, Merry couldn’t figure out Lu Chen’s attitude. She didn’t know if the words she just said had an adverse effect on the S-grade, causing him to have feelings of resistance. She just realized that this young man had only joined the Secret Party for less than half a year and was a “bumpkin” who ran a martial arts dojo in Vietnam. He had no sense of loyalty nor responsibility.
“But… I’ll take this job,” He likes things that are challenging. A 3rd generation, eh. Hopefully, it can withstand a few cuts.
It was just a shame that he couldn’t continue the first blood mission if he were to capture it alive.
If he accidentally hacked it to death, then he shouldn’t be blamed for his dereliction of duty…

“This is a tailor-made combat suit provided to you by the college’s Equipment Department. It is able to reduce air resistance and frictional heat generation caused by Split Second, and is bulletproof, fireproof, and cut-proof to an extent.
Merry took out a silver case. Inside was a set of tight-fitting combat clothing. Lu Chen took one look and expressed his reluctance.
On one hand, this thing did not look comfortable at all, and the black bottom of the suit was decorated by fancy floral decorations, plus that gaudy-looking headgear. It looked almost like a superhero in an American blockbuster, but not quite, which made it seem stupid as hell.
On the other hand, he voiced his own concern, “This thing… it won’t explode, right?”
Lu Chen had previously used equipment produced by the Equipment Department, such as the time when he infiltrated the Egyptian pyramids. The target was an ancient relic, and his provided communication device was an old-fashioned remodeled cell phone. He was going to contact the ones outside when he had found the target, but when he was entering his coordinates… Boom!
It was a good thing he reacted quickly to throw the phone out, or he would have suffered some superficial injuries and been buried alive under the chamber…
Only after getting out did he find out that the coordinates he entered was coincidentally the “self-destruct code.” He was about to start dropping some expletives, like, why you do that to a perfectly fine fucking phone. Okay, fine, you added that feature, but why didn’t you tell me beforehand!
If this only happened once, then it might’ve been excusable, and that it was his own shit luck. Another time though, his equipment happened to include a lighter.
After killing the target Death Servitor, he habitually pulled out a cigar that Caesar had gifted him, then… Whoosh!
A welded steel strip up to 30 centimeters long engulfed by blazing flames shot out, almost searing off his eyebrows. He threw the lighter away in a fright, and upon hitting the ground… Boom!
After these two occurrences, he was traumatized. Now, whenever the Executive Bureau handed him any equipment, his first question would be to ask if it was manufactured by the Equipment Department.
“This is made of high-tech carbon steel fiber, enhanced by alchemy. It could be considered as the fusion of science and draconic technology,” Merry instantly understood what Lu Chen meant. The psychotic nature of the members of the Equipment Department was well-known within the Execution Bureau. Many people were harmed by them, she included.
Lu Chen gingerly picked up the gear and spread it out, examining it. He pondered if it was difficult to add any explosive functions to this kind of material. Also, Merry probably didn’t lie to him.
Mm, the spatial identification system classified it as a blue-grade item. Quality-wise, it was indeed a good piece of equipment.
But, “I won’t use it.”
“Why?” Merry was puzzled. The cost of production for this suit was sky high.
Lu Chen disgustedly shoved the gear back into the case, “It’s ugly as hell.”
