Starting From the Dragon Tribe
Chapter 60: Hyenas Led by the Lion
The sea of flowers that once danced enchantingly and vibrantly were wilting. The power that the exalted creature’s awakening exerted was being returned to her. It was a gift bestowed unto her by the heavens. It was the nutrition needed for her draconization.
Lu Chen took off his trench coat and tossed it aside. He stretched his neck, and the bones in body made creaking noises. His body was a little rusty from the time he had spent at the college, and he was only getting back in shape.
The Executive Bureau agents had already taken the little girl with them and evacuated hundreds of meters away. Although he really wanted to get a taste of what cutting up a complete 3rd generation species felt like, he knew he’d get chewed out by the Execution Bureau.
However, this woman in front of him, even if she hadn’t completed her draconization, was still a formidable little draconic being. The lustrous and beautiful blue silk dress was ripped apart as the woman became covered with white scales. Her broken arm regrew, spikes protruding from her joints. A pair of huge dragon wings grew to completion, like a creation from the stories of legend. A beautiful work of art she was—the fusion of violence and beauty as one!
The woman slowly exited the bronze coffin, leaving footprints on the muddy ground, which was strewn with wilted flowers.
She walked unhurriedly, for she had regained her peak power. Even in the olden days, she was considered strong within the 3rd generation dukes. How dare a lowly heathen oppose a pureblood like her!
Her dragon wings flapped as the wind howled and the rain poured. If there were a super-speed camera to capture this scene, to freeze this moment of artistry, violence, and beauty, then it would undoubtedly be a worldly masterpiece.
In the eyes of the agents, who were a distance away, the woman disappeared in a flash, appearing in front of Lu Chen. The darkness was lit up by sparks: it was the collision of sword and claws!

A deep trail was carved from where the woman originally stood to where Lu Chen was. Dirt flung backwards, and as if the wind was a step slower, a cluster of dead flowers swirled into the air.
“Provide light for the S-grade!” Purtell commanded, for the sea of flowers had withered, its fluorescence fading along withal. The full moon was obscured by dark clouds, and only the occasional thunderbolt illuminated the earth, which evidently was detrimental to their ace agent.
The Dragon Raja was a clan of born warriors, able to adapt to various environments. Even the darkness did not affect their vision, but for hybrids, it was different.
Lu Chen flickered about, likewise disappearing from the agents’ view. Only the sound of metal clashing in the air could be heard, creating brilliant sparks.
In what was once the sea of flowers, the wind howled as it surged turbulently. Dirt and flowery remains scattered about, like two storms tumbling about the place.
In this high-speed confrontation, Lu Chen and the woman’s eyes met again and again as they saw the fury and disbelief in each other’s eyes.
Their speeds were rising even at this point that even the dynamic vision of the hybrids could not capture them, like they were flashes in the dark.
The woman swung her fearsome claws and used her Kotodama: Kingship simultaneously, but this brat in front of her not only didn’t kneel, but did not even slow down half a hair. Was her Kotodama ineffective?
The woman’s Kotodama was of course effective, but for Lu Chen to bear a weight that was only more than ten times his own, so what? It was only one or two thousand kilograms, and for him, it was merely like a light weighted jog. Only the muddy ground served as a mild inconvenience to his movement, but his balance was as excellent as ever.
The woman had already reached her maximum speed and strength, but he had not.
The woman lunged to attack again, and Lu Chen parried. He pivoted to change his trajectory, creating blooming water lilies from the muddy ground.
On the right side, a stream of blood flew out.
Lu Chen frowned slightly. It was true that he did not use his full strength, but the 3rd generation species’ body was too tough after draconizaiton. If he used too much strength, then Red Maple wouldn’t be able to withstand it. Thinking back to his combat confrontation class against Caesar, he was afraid that the college would decrease his scholarship if he were to destroy it.
The woman’s eyes boiled in anger. She did not think that the young man could go even faster as she quickly healed her body with dragonblood. She refused to believe that a hybrid could maintain this kind of high-intensity fight for this long.
Yet the young man’s attack did not cease; the blade moved in an upward direction—Gyaku-kesa*—right across the woman’s chest.
*TL Note: Gyaku-kesa, AKA reverse sash cut, is a left upward-diagonal cut that originates from Japanese swordsmanship.
Red Maple glided through the white scales, creating blinding sparks. The speed of fresh blood spurting out could not catch up to the phantom-like flash.
Sakakaze, Karatake*, sheath the blade, then blade thrust!
*TL Note: vertical upward slash from below; vertical downward slash from above.
The sudden spike in speed caught the exalted 3rd generation off guard, and blood burst out from her body.
Fortunately, in the nick of time, she used both claws to protect her heart, for even though it wasn’t fatal for the hearts of the pureblood dragons to be pierced, it would have a detrimental effect on her performance later on in the fight.
But she felt like the young man’s Kotodama time limit was almost up: he seemed to be in a rush as his attacks became more and more ferocious. She was just a blur in the eyes of the peasants, but the young man was like a spectre in the night!
Her claws swung to hit nothing.
Kotodama: Hypnosis, ineffective.
No way to counterattack, no way to capture!
Her thousands of years of dignity were meaningless in front of this absolute speed. The pride of the pureblood Dragon Raja was completely trampled upon!
She moved cautiously, but could not touch even the corner of the young man’s clothes. In a moment where sparks flew, she turned her head and finally saw the young man’s face: a pair of pure-gold eyes with a cold and deadly killing intent and the slightest hint of boredom.
Instantly, she understood that the other was not getting desperate, but was becoming tired of this game.
This made her unspeakably furious. A lowly heathen dared to feel bored in a battle with an exalted existence like her!?
In the moment that she was distracted, the young man attacked head-on, and in an incalculable fragment of time, she saw the muscles bulging in his arms and chest under his soaked white shirt. The kingly power surged; the lion had appeared!
Boom—
A loud boom sounded. She finally reverted to her base form, the dragon bones on her chest broken. The heart was exposed, like a naked girl laid bare to the whole world, beating fearfully.
The Red Maple flashed relentlessly before returning to its scabbard…
In a flurry of movements, Red Maple created ear-splitting sonic booms. Even the power regeneration of dragon bones and scales seemed weak in the face of absolute violence.
The woman who just got up before she could even stand properly had her heart filled with stab marks. Blood gushed out continuously, as if representing the sapping of her strength.
Lu Chen’s attacks were yet to stop. The pureblood dragons’ recovery speed was incredible. Even if they were to capture her alive, he had to make sure that he had to cut her up so much that she couldn’t recover. The first step was to sever her limbs.
In a sudden gust of wind, before the woman could steady herself, her left arm flew into the air. She tried to wave her right arm, but that too had lost feeling.
She wanted to escape into the air, but tumbled onto the ground, her legs soon following. Her wings had yet to flap and were severed from the root.
In less than a second, the teenager completed a magnificent dissection of the 3rd generation just because of her momentary lapse of concentration and announced her long-destined defeat.
The teenager wielded his sword again, removing her scales and excising her bones while piercing the vital organs one by one!
The thunder roared, and the rain fell unstoppably, sprinkling on the once-dignified face, and this very face was directly touching the muddy ground.
At this moment, lights lit up all around, and helicopters cast their beams. The wilderness became as bright as day, darkness nowhere to be found. And the young man was at the center of all of that, one foot on the back of the ancient one.
The rainstorm also stopped, as if coincidentally, and the agents of the Executive Department marched forward side by side, holding back chains in their gloved hands, chains that were forged by the best alchemists in history. These were exceedingly difficult to break free from, even for a 3rd generation pure-blood dragon.
She, the noble one, was mystified. How was the young man able to continue to speed up? So fast that even she couldn’t catch his afterimage?
Was it Split Second? No, it wasn’t! She suddenly broke into a shocked expression and fought to turn to look at the young man, who was looking down at her.
For the first time, she spoke, in an ancient tongue: “Thou art…”
But she didn’t finish that sentence when blood sprayed from her throat. Lu Chen leaned down to look at the woman. In this instant, she felt a killing intent ten times stronger than in the battle. She understood that this time, the young man truly moved to kill.
The agents arrived behind the young man, quiet and solemn, like soldiers awaiting instructions.
The woman looked at these lowly hybrids in front of her moment in a trance. She suddenly remembered thousands of years ago, on this land, there were grassland hyenas.
Hyenas were predators who were not powerful individually, scattering upon meeting leopards or such, but were they to coalesce, they would easily be able to dispatch a lone lion under the direction of the group’s leader.
Yet today, the leader of these “hyenas” was a monster far beyond a mere lion!
At this time, two F-35 fighter jets glided past. The woman showed an amazed expression: they were soaring metal dragons.
Lu Chen quietly looked at the prostrate woman, and for a moment, actually felt a sort of empathetic dejection. He involuntarily sighed, “Times have changed.”
