Chapter 81: These Two Sure Can Eat
The sound of controllers clicking filled the air, the sound of music, strikes, gunfire from various games, the excited shouts of players culminated into the adjective, lively… or noisy?
Lu Chen was currently very focused on the machine in front of him, his hand operating the joystick. It was his first time using a joystick to play KOF, so he felt quite awkward, which was why he lost to the red-haired girl opposite him several times in a row.
For Erii, it was also her first time in this place. Upon entering, the noise startled her, but calmed down when she saw that many of these machines were familiar to her.
She stayed in that room yearlong, not going out. Her brother bought her all sorts of games and machines, including a desktop computer, but she felt it was too boring to play alone, and her brother rarely came to play with her. Eventually, her favorites became the Playstation, PS3, etc. In short, she was very familiar with playing with a joystick.
If Finger were here, he would have facepalmed and exclaimed that his junior brother really was a dense guy for bringing a girl to an arcade. However, the roles were reversed this time, and the one who kept winning became Erii.
Lu Chen lost another game, got up, and stretched. He glanced at Erii, and seemingly saw the corners of the girl opposite from him curl up.
She smiled.
So she wasn’t a blockhead…
He had heard Finger say that there was a creature in this world called a “NEET.” NEETs become blockheads from being in their house for too long, and he warned him to not stay in the dorm and play video games all day, yet often after not even 30 minutes had passed since he said that, he would hear “Junior Brother, help me beat this level together.”
It seemed that although the girl was a little unresponsive, she wasn’t completely incapable of showing her feelings. At least today she ended the long streak of her being abused in KOF and turned the tables, and after giving Lu Chen a brutal beating for two hours, her joyfulness overflowed as she struggled to keep her soft cherry blossom lips from smiling.
“I’m a bit hungry. Want to eat?” Lu Chen touched his stomach a bit. The branch’s people weren’t able to predict his foot intake. He was only half full from the breakfast provided by the hotel.
Erii didn’t use her little notebook and nodded.
It was strange. The two had a strange sense of understanding. Communication became much easier after they got used to each other’s quirks. Most of the time, Erii didn’t need to use her notebook, and Lu Chen would still understand what she meant.
Just like the process of how they became acquainted ingame.
At first, Erii was formal and polite. The words she sent, if translated, would probably be like this:
“If you’re not busy, would you play a match with Erii?”
“Do you have time to play a match together?”
“Wanna play King of Fighters?”
“Another match?”
“Play one?”
“Play?”
“?”
The word count decreased linearly…
And Lu Chen’s reply was always the simple “Okay!”
Erii stood up and also reluctantly looked down at the machine. It was the first time she had come to this place and played with someone else.
“We can come back this afternoon if you want to play. I’m free today anyway,” Lu Chen understood what the other was feeling and then said with a smile, “C’mon, let’s go eat first.”

The sky was great, the earth was great, but eating was the greatest.
Half an hour later, Lu Chen and Erii sat face-to-face at the window seat facing the street. They had come to Burger King, the starting point.
If Caesar were here, he would’ve lambasted Lu Chen for his lack of style. To actually take a girl to eat at Burger King… and then recommend a series of restaurants that he appreciated to Lu Chen.
Well… depending on Caesar’s enthusiasm level, maybe he would even arrange a private venue.
But Caesar wasn’t here, and Lu Chen had little experience about this world’s restaurants. His deepest memory was when Lutecia first brought him to eat this world’s food.
Compared to those ripoff establishments in the college, Burger King was definitely a bang for his buck, and for Lu Chen, it guaranteed that he would be full!
If he spent the same amount of money to go anywhere Caesar recommended, he was afraid he’d only get enough food to fill the space between his teeth.
As for those who said this was junk food… this was the only thing Lu Chen hoped the Equipment Department to prove otherwise!
Erii quietly sat on the seat, waiting, looking up from time to time to look at those walking around in the restaurant, then sometimes looking out through the window at the advertisement blimp out in the sky.
The waiter delivered two stacks of burgers along with a series of combo meals. Usually guests retrieved their own meals , but the two of them ordered way too much. He thought that they wouldn’t be able to carry all of it, so he just provided some extra service.
He looked at them a little weirdly, thinking that a girl cosplaying as a miko was strange enough, but for them to order that much. Could they even finish?
Erii curiously picked up a burger box, opening it and revealing the paper packaging inside. She gently poked the top, feeling its softness and hotness, then looked at Lu Chen, carefully holding up the paper box and opened her dainty mouth to bite it.
“Stop,” Lu Chen held up his hand and stopped the girl’s quirky behavior. He thought, I’ve finally met someone more bumpkin than me. This greaseproof paper might look good, but you’re not supposed to eat it.
It wasn’t that Erii was a “bumpkin” like Lu Chen thought, but that this sort of Burger King of junk food was never on the menu at the Yamata-no-Orochi…
Next, Lu Chen made a demonstration, taking off the paper wrapping and pointing to the inside, indicating that this was the edible part.
Erii nodded to show her understanding. She didn’t show her embarrassment. Rather, she felt a little happy for touching a kind of food she never had before.
Lu Chen took one bite and half the burger was gone, while Erii across from him took small bites, like a sort of rodent. Her cutesy behavior made people want to take the chance to pinch her slightly puffed up cheeks.
About half an hour had passed, and to Lu Chen’s surprise, he realized he had blundered.
He ordered twenty-five burgers of various flavors and added chicken and fries and other combos. He thought it would be a safe amount, but he discovered that the girl sitting across from him could eat more than he thought!
Although her appetite was much smaller than his, it was still more than a little beyond that of the average person’s. Three burgers downed, countless fried chicken and cola, and still had an unsatisfied expression on her face.
It was the first time Lu Chen felt what others felt when they saw him eat. He pondered where Erii’s smooth and slender stomach stored the food?
This confusion almost urged him to ask if the other person was a hybrid… but after observing Erii’s movements, he felt that although her physical temperament wasn’t bad, she didn’t seem “strong” like Milana was.
“Thank you for the hospitality,” Eventually, they both finished their meals, satisfied. Erii even wrote in her little notebook to convey her gratitude.
“Should we go there again later?” Lu Chen was referring to the arcade.
