Chapter 10: Traveling the Great Void
As night fell, the little fellows were tired after a day of playing. Wang Xuanji made dinner early. There was a plate of scrambled eggs and a plate of vegetables. Wang Xuanyu ate a small bowl of porridge and plain eggs. After the meal, they went back to their rooms to sleep.
Yun Su took a rattan recliner and sat in the corridor facing the large pool. The moonlight shone down on him as if he was immersed in it.
Gradually, as if he were taking a nap, his magic disappeared and his spiritual light disappeared. The moonlight shone into the large pool and a white figure slowly rose. She looked at the person lying in the corridor and smiled silently:
“It wasn’t easy for someone to move in. It’s a relief to have a scapegoat.”
The white figure stretched out its arms and grew them with a whoosh. It was nearly ten feet long and quietly approached Yun Su to pull him into the water.
Suddenly, the white figure’s sinister sneer stopped. It realized that the sleeping man had opened his eyes and was smiling at it.
“You water ghost. Don’t you think it’s strange that I’m lying here sleeping in the middle of winter?”
Seeing that the pair of ghostly hands wanted to retreat, Yun Su condensed his Dharmic powers in his right hand and pulled at the void.
With a splash, the water ghost was pulled out of the water. Upon closer inspection, the black silk that looked like algae during the day turned out to be the water ghost’s hair.
The water ghost let out a scream. Its long hair, which was covering its face, was blown away. It was a female ghost, revealing a ghastly face that was festering and white from being soaked in the pool. Its dazed mind was lost and its face was blank. It looked panicked to be suddenly pulled out of the water.
“Please, die for me.”
The water ghost was still begging in midair. She begged the man in front of her to die.
Unfortunately, the next moment, when they got a little closer, a spiritual light flashed on Yun Su’s body. The water ghost did not even have time to scream before it melted like snow and disappeared from this world completely in the blink of an eye. There was a strange force that followed the female ghost’s body and entered the pool. Egg-sized bubbles and white smoke were rising from it. The ghost hair that entangled the bottom of the pool also melted.
Yun Su was slightly stunned. He did not cast a spell. He did not even use her magic power. Could it be that the Soul Formation realm was really as the Mystic Sutra said? That one would reach the level of immortals in mortals’ legends? That one would be clean, untainted and impenetrable for evil beings? This female ghost was hiding in the large pool. Even during the day, the pool looked sinister. He did not expect that she would be directly melted by her like the sun shining on the snow.
He was alert and focused. The battle he had anticipated had not happened at all, let alone alert the City God’s forces. The female ghost who had wanted to find a scapegoat was gone.
With the death of the female ghost, the entire pool no longer had the repulsive filthy ghost aura from the day.
When the spiritual light on Yun Su’s body appeared, an invisible force spread out. The bad luck in the entire courtyard was swept away. The moonlight and starlight in the sky shone in the courtyard, making it clearer and clearer. It was no longer groggy. For a moment, the night scenery was beautiful.
After packing up the dirty things, the children slept even more comfortably. Their breathing was slow and long and they smacked their lips in their sleep. Only then did Yun Su return inside.
He took out the Mystic Sutra and read the contents of the third chapter carefully again. There was no longer any obscure feeling. There were many merits in the explanation of spiritual energy, magic power, and spells. The few small spells were the Breeze Technique, the Squint Technique, and the Evil Dispelling Technique.
The Breeze Technique was an upgraded version of Qinggong. When using this technique, it was easy to leap over roofs, vault over walls and move around. The Squint Technique was a kind of concealment technique. It was very low-level and could only deceive people’s eyes when they were unprepared.
Evil Dispelling Technique was used to deal with ordinary ghosts and evil spirits.
With his cultivation and progress in the Soul Formation realm, the three spells were extremely simple. He could master them with a little deliberation.
After putting away the Mystic Sutra, Yun Su undressed and laid down. His mind sank into the Longevity Space and she slightly invoked the Longevity Immortal Token. With a buzz, an extremely mysterious feeling came.
On this Longevity Immortal Token, a mysterious yellow aura wrapped around it. The token was transported away last week as if it was alive.
On a closer look, there seemed to be countless raindrops lingering around the yellow aura. One could vaguely see the rain falling, moistening the mountains, rivers, and fertile lands. Many living beings benefited.
“The rain when I entered the Dao can actually help me coalesce a Longevity Immortal Token.”
Yun Su vaguely sensed some connections. Sometimes, when one intentionally sought success, only failure greeted them. In other cases, one’s unintentional actions will bring one success. This might be the opportunity mentioned on the path of cultivation.
He communicated with the Longevity Cloud Platform and used the Longevity Immortal Token. The Immortal Token erupted with a ball of mysterious yellow light that transformed into an illusory light path that appeared out of thin air in the Longevity Space.
Yun Su felt a suction force and transformed into an illusory figure. He jumped onto the illusory path and entered the depths of the void with a whoosh.
As soon as he entered the Great Void, he was surrounded by fog in all directions. He could not see clearly. There were no up, down, left, right, or cardinal directions. There were no signs or references.
If not for the fact that he remembered activating the Longevity Immortal Token which turned into nothingness and how he jumped onto the bridge of light, Yun Su, who was wandering in the Great Void with a confused expression, might have had many philosophical questions for himself.
This feeling was like when he was dreaming. He dreamed that he fell from an infinitely high cloud and did not land on the ground all night. He just maintained a sense of weightlessness and fell throughout the night.
It was also a little like suddenly turning into an extremely tiny speck of dust in a dream. There were huge existences all around, like ants shaking a mountain.
Here, Yun Su felt what it meant to be small and mysterious. It was completely indescribable.
The word “Great Void” had some legends and explanations from Earth’s era. Some said it was a mysterious place, some said it was a Dao and some said it was a certain realm. It was mysterious. Today, despite wandering here for a long time, Yun Su still did not know what the Great Void was.
In this muddled nothingness and chaos, the only reference points that could make one feel that time was passing were some vortexes.
After floating for a while, one would encounter a vortex. No one knew what was behind these vortexes. In the information of the Longevity Cloud Platform, it only mentioned that they could travel in the Great Void and obtain some kind of fortuitous encounter by chance. However, after floating for a long time, other than seeing countless vortexes, there was nothing.
One day, one month, one year. The usual units of time had all failed. Yun Su was no longer in a hurry to go out. Since he was already here, he would take things as they came. The little information that had just come from the Longevity Cloud Platform meant that a Longevity Immortal Token could allow one to travel in the Great Void for a period of time. It was not clear how long it would take but it was not to the extent that he would go back and find that the little fellows grew white hair.
One moment, it felt like 10,000 years had passed. The next moment, it felt like the blink of an eye. The illusion of 10,000 years passing by in an instant made one unable to figure out what was going on.
At this moment, a vortex suddenly appeared. Yun Su was accidentally sucked in and fainted after a violent spin. When he opened his eyes again, he saw another gray and chaotic world.
This place was different from before.
When he first entered the Great Void, it was empty. Other than the occasional mysterious vortex, there was nothing. No humans, no demons, no treasures. Not even real clouds or smoke.
This place seemed chaotic but it was actually filled with an indescribable rhythm or rules. Rules that a cultivator could sense.
Yun Su didn’t know what those rules were. Perhaps they were too profound.
Most importantly of all, this time, he could see.
In all directions, countless turbulence surged and there was a faint purple color that slipped away in the distance.
Yun Su looked up. Somewhere in the distance, something was moving in the depths of the Chaos. Before long, he saw a huge, indescribable person coming from the depths of the Chaos. He broke through countless chaotic currents and slowly strode forward.
