Chapter 8: Fusing Goblins

So, goblins could climb trees?
Still, it was understandable that they could do so since they lived in the forest.
Soon, Green Skin slid down the tree and said, “Master, there are these many goblins up front…”
Using both hands and feet, it held up all its fingers and two toes on its right foot.
“Twelve.” Chen Yining frowned—that definitely wasn’t a number they could handle.
Moreover, the goblins must have lived their days nearby, and would have had the advantage of familiar ground.
“Forget it. Let’s keep looking.”
Chen Yining turned to leave.
They could not afford to provoke those goblins at the moment.
“Are there usually that many goblins at your settlements?” Chen Yining then asked.
Green Skin thought about it, and shook its head. “Those are just wild goblins. There aren’t many of them.”
“Twelve isn’t many?”
“It’s really not.”
Seemingly under the impression that its master was doubting it, Green Skin’s face and ears were a brighter green, and it spread its hands exaggeratedly. “Big tribes would have many, many goblins.”
Then, as if its own description was not convincing enough, it paused and added confidently, “More than the leaves on that tree!”
Chen Yining held his forehead, gesturing that he understood. “Would there be groups of two or three?”
“Yes.” Green Skin nodded. “Wild goblins do not have tribes. They’re poor.”
Chen Yining studied the skinny and craggy ribs of Green Skin then.
Where did this fellow get the guts to insult others for being poor?
After that, they continued searching the edge of the forest.
Meanwhile, Chen Yining continued searching the edge of the forest.
Around twenty minutes, later, they finally found two wild goblins who were by themselves.
They were sitting on the ground and clawing off dirt, before pulling chopstick-length purple-red worms that they had put into their mouths.
Munching twice, they gulped and swallowed it.
Chen Yining turned in shock toward Green Skin. Did their kind usually eat that? How frugal.
That was when he saw Green Skin salivating at the sight of the worm the other two goblins were holding.
Kicking it in the butt, Chen Yining forced Green Skin out from behind the tree.
The two wild goblins sitting on the ground stared dumbly at Green Skin.
Nonetheless, they became green with envy when they saw the ‘luxurious’ equipment Green Skin wore, strong greed welling out of their eyes just then.
Shrieking, they charged toward Green Skin.
Green Skin, too, bellowed as it stabbed out with the rebar which Chen Jing’s gnome had specially fashioned.
Splat—
The oncoming goblin was stabbed through the chest, but the rebar got stuck just after a small portion pierced it.
The wild goblin shrieked and stumbled backwards in panic, while Green Skin took another stab forward and stabbed again with its full strength, their simultaneous movements ending up nailing the goblin onto a tree trunk.
Meanwhile, the other wild goblin seemed to have no intention of avenging its companion at all, and had started to flee in panic instead.
However, both Cheng Yining and Chen Jing had expected it, and cut off its escape through the flanks.
Be that as it may, Chen Yining spaced out in hesitation for an instant when he had a good look at the humanoid creature.
On the other hand, a fearsome glint flashed in the wild goblin’s eyes when it saw that its escape route was blocked.
It leapt toward Chen Yining arm with a bite.
Chen Yining pulled back.
The wild goblin’s target was not Chen Yining’s arm at all, but the weapon he was holding.
Catching Chen Yining’s weapon with both hands, it leaned backwards with the advantage of weight. In fact, Chen Yining’s almost left his weapon right then, but he soon reacted and firmly held tight to it.
“Damn it!” Chen Jing then charged forward from the side, and kicked the wild goblin above the hip to send it flying.
The wild goblin slammed into the dirt and rolled several times.
Then, holding his rebar high with both hands, Chen Jing stabbed it viciously!
The wild goblin’s limbs flailed like a fish on a cutting board.
Chen Jing pulled out his rebar and was about to stab the wild goblin again when Chen Yining stopped him.
“Brother?” Chen Jing appeared confused.
“I’ll do it myself.” Chen Yining shook his head.
Chen Jing smiled—now that was the brother he knew.
During their younger days, the brothers would knock down the door to give anyone a trashing if either of the brothers was bullied. Even if they could not win because the other guy was older, they would at least make it hurt.
Now, as Chen Yining stamped a foot on the wild goblin’s chest, the goblin stared tightly at him as if sensing its fate.
Chen Yining returned its glare and stabbed down viciously!
The slain goblin hence turned into a white light that flowed into Chen Yining’s Summoner’s Grimoire.
Its pages flipped on its own, with the image of a goblin that seemed alive hence appearing on its second page. However, the image was a silhouette and not solid.
After that, a piece information appeared in the Summoner’s Grimoire.
Any slain monster would be captured into a page of the Summoner’s Grimoire.
Though one may decline the capture, declining it also meant that they could not capture the monster again.
In that case, there were two choices: one would be to leave the monster dead, while the other was to convert it into EXP.
And should the Summoner’s Grimoire’s pages be filled, no monsters could be captured and there would be no option of capturing, unless the user chooses to release one of the summoned beasts.
In addition, newly captured summoned beast would forget their vengeance in life, and would maintain a close rapport with the owner of the Summoner’s Grimoire instead.
Chen Yining understood that as a rather stirring automated adjustment.
Aside from that… there were also vaguely visible hints written in tiny letters on the page, as if it should not be seen in the open.
It was as obscure as it was curious.
Drag me~
Drag me~
Drag~
Drag~
Drag? Drag what?
Chen Yining pondered, and his eyes fell upon the half-transparent goblin’s silhouette.
Chen Yining poked at the silhouette, and… he really managed to drag it.
But where was he supposed to put it?
From the second page to the third? That made no difference.
Unless…
An idea occurred to Chen Yining then.
Tentatively, he pulled the goblin silhouette so that it overlapped with Green Skin’s portrait, which was on the first page.
In the next instant, a miracle happened.
Once the images of both goblins with minute differences overlapped, the image blurred like ripples over water.
It spread outward, and Green Skin’s body altered.
When it ended, Green Skin’s appearance changed significantly.
At first, Green Skin’s portrait was a hunched-back, crafty-looking goblin less than 1.42 meters tall.
Now, it was a big fellow standing at almost 1.7 meters tall with a much sturdier physique. The curves and outlines of its muscles was much more pronounced and its eyes were much larger.
The stats panel to the right of Green Skin’s portrait also changed dramatically.
