Chapter 12: The Problems that Followed

“My lord, our population is really huge now!”
Looking at the main streets and alleys bustling with activity, Hallmark unconsciously sighed.
Wang Lun nodded in response and carefully swept his eyes over every place in front of him.
When walking through the city gates, one could still see outsiders walking in with their luggage.
Some were alone, while some were an entire family. Those who sat in carriages should be the merchants.
Wang Lun was delighted that the state of Yale City was gradually improving and at least for now, the situation was still manageable.
“Hallmark, let’s check out somewhere else!”
Wang Lun led Hallmark around and after spending the entire day, they finally understood Yale City’s layout.
It was getting dark, and it was already dinner time when Wang Lun returned to the city hall.
“My lord, everyone is waiting to serve your dinner!”
A maid called out to Wang Lun, who was about to enter the room.
Wang Lun stopped in his tracks, turned around, and pretended to yawn.
“Oh, got it, ma’am. But I’m exhausted right now. Can you postpone my dinner time until a little later?”
Wang Lun showed a regretful expression.
The maid smiled and had to do as she was told. “When would be a better time for dinner then, my lord?”
Wang Lun curled his lips and shrugged, saying, “Any time, as long as it’s not too late.”
“Yes, my lord, I will speak to the kitchen. But I hope you won’t sleep for too long because skipping dinner will be bad for your health.”
The maid was almost 50 years old, and her words had a sense of motherly love to them.
“Thanks for the reminder!”
Wang Lun smiled, pushed open the door of his room with both hands, and walked in.
He didn’t really want to sleep. As a matter of fact, he just wanted to travel back to Earth again.
The city was developing. It needed a proper city design plan.
And Wang Lun wasn’t a designer, much less a politician or economist.
So how would he know what kind of design plan the current Yale City needed?
Wang Lun closed the door, walked toward the wine rack, and picked a bottle of 82-year-old Lafite.
This was what he got in exchange for the gold coins he earned here.
Uncapping the bottle, he poured the wine into a clear goblet.
Holding the goblet in one hand, he swirled, patiently waiting for the wine to exude its aroma.
During this process, Wang Lun’s eyes were dazed, albeit his mind still operating at high speed.
After a few moments, he finally returned to his senses and focused his attention on the goblet in his hand.
He slowly lifted it up and gently sipped it, before drinking it down in one go.
“Space—transmigrate!”
These were his first words after putting down the goblet.
The black hole appeared.
And Wang Lun entered with ease.

“Ma’am, is there any more dinner?”
Two hours had gone after Wang Lun traveled back and forth the two worlds.
What he didn’t expect was that the maid had been waiting for him.
The maid bowed and said, “Yes, dinner is always ready for you, my lord!”
“Good job on your etiquette!”
Wang Lun walked past the maid and couldn’t help but praise her.
The corner of the maid’s mouth lifted into a smile. “Thank you for the compliment, my lord. It is all thanks to Miss Lucy!”
Upon arriving at the dining room, Wang Lun sat down.
“Can you serve the food now, ma’am?”
Wang Lun turned around and asked.
“Please wait a moment; I will go inform the kitchen now!”
Wang Lun didn’t have the habit of using a knife and fork, and chose to use two chopsticks instead. He picked up a clean rag and carefully wiped the chopsticks.
Shortly after, dishes were served one after another. Wang Lun once told them that as long as he was eating alone, just three dishes and one soup would be sufficient. Anything more would go to waste.
He began digging in.
“Is Hallmark still around?”
“He should have headed back by now!”
The maid answered.
Only Wang Lun and the maids and servants lived in the city hall. Hallmark would only be at the city hall’s training ground during the daytime.
This time, Wang Lun had not only brought back a design plan, but also other things from this trip to Earth.
He thought he wouldn’t take too much time. But in the end, there were some special circumstances that caused him to exceed his estimated time.
The next day.
Hallmark didn’t go directly to the training ground, but came to Wang Lun instead.
However, Bran was also present, standing in front of Wang Lun right now.
“My lord, what is this?”
Bran asked in confusion, holding the drawing in his hand.
“This is the city’s design plan. The other one teaches you the method to make bricks. Cement can also be manufactured and of course, marls can be mined,” Wang Lun said.
“What are they for?”
“Building houses. Now that our population is getting larger, not only is there a food crisis, but also a housing crisis.
“Hallmark and I looked into it yesterday. Most of the houses in the city are about to collapse and are prone to problems. We need to expand the city as quickly as possible, and bricks and cement can help us achieve it.”
Bran looked carefully at the other piece of paper, which was a map of the city’s layout.
The middle was the central area with public facilities and residential buildings. Large greeneries were required to be built around the surroundings, while the periphery was a circular residential belt with mainly panelized houses. In the outermost part, there were garden houses.
“This is the layout map?”
Bran looked at Wang Lun.
What kind of design plan is this? It looks so complicated.
“With such a design plan, not only can we accommodate a large number of residents, but we can also divide the residents according to class. With the greeneries dividing each housing area, it also ensures the health of the city.”
Wang Lun added a final statement with authority: “This design perfectly suits Yale City.”
To other people, this was a customized design plan specifically for Yale City.
Bran was dumbfounded.
Did the baron come up with such a complex plan within one night?
He has once again brought out his mysterious side. No wonder he said at the beginning that this city will start to change.
“Amazing!”
Bran lost control.
“My lord, your management ability is definitely one of the best in this world. No, the one and only in this world.”
Bran gesticulated with joy.
“What about me, my lord?”
It was Hallmark who spoke this time.
“Lead the soldiers to gather materials. The marls that I mentioned earlier are essential for building houses.
“Think of this as adding an unusual training program for the soldiers.”
Although Wang Lun told Hallmark to consider this a training program, Hallmark didn’t agree.
But even so, what else could he say?
“As you wish, my lord!”
Hallmark bowed.
He disliked procrastination, so he went ahead and did what Wang Lun instructed.
“But there is another problem I think you should solve, my lord!” Bran said after calming himself down.
“What problem?” Wang Lun frowned.
“Many immigrants are citizens of the lower class. Almost none of them are literate and merchants will not employ them.
“Even if most of them are assigned to do construction or reclaim wasteland, there are still some who can’t find work.”
Having no culture was a fatal problem. The problems that came one after another caught Wang Lun off guard.
