Chapter 35: Transmigration Wholesale
Looking at the thriving scene of the newly-built marketplace in Yale City, an idea arose in Wang Lun’s mind.
And that was to open a store himself.
The official city lord opening a store to sell goods in the city?
Not only did Lucy feel ridiculous, but Wang Lun also mocked himself.
On Earth, Wang Lun once fantasized about one day being able to own a business studio.
Competition was so fierce that he was defeated by reality countless times. He kept climbing up, but was often washed down to the valley by the waves of the flood.
Now in Yale City, he actually had the idea of going back to his old idea.
But judging from the goods he imported, he seemed to just want to retain the same feeling, that’s all.
Bran’s eyes were full of surprise as he watched Wang Lun carry boxes to the courtyard.
“My lord, how many more of those boxes do you have?”
Wang Lun placed the box on the ground, stood up straight, and said, “There are still 10 more or so!”
The corners of Bran’s mouth twitched. First of all, not to mention where Wang Lun got so many boxes, but he also didn’t look tired.
“If you are tired, you can always get them to do it, my lord!” Bran pointed to the people behind him and said.
Wang Lun had been so busy carrying the boxes that he didn’t even notice the several carriages that arrived here.
Wang Lun waved his hand and said, “It’s fine. Just tell them to load all the boxes onto the carriages. Anyway, these boxes aren’t heavy, so I can carry them over to the courtyard alone.”
Bran had no choice but to do what Wang Lun said.
“Hurry up and load the boxes onto the carriages.”
The several people behind him nodded and quickly stepped forward to carry the boxes.
“Huh? Are the boxes filled with things?” A man knitted his brows and asked in confusion.
“Yes, they are!” Another man said in certainty after shaking the box a few times.
“Hey, be careful. You’ll be done for if it’s something expensive and you break it!” someone reminded him.
Soon after, Wang Lun finally finished carrying the boxes to the courtyard.
He clapped his hands. “Bran, transport these boxes to the storefront that I bought earlier.”
Bran looked at Wang Lun and asked, “My lord, are you really opening a store?”
Wang Lun puckered his brows and said, “I don’t remember mentioning it to you!”
Bran said, “It was Miss Lucy who told me.”
“But, my lord, how can you as a nobleman, degrade yourself to do what merchants do?”
Wang Lun had already guessed what Bran was going to say and deliberately looked at the carriage people.
“Hey, are all the boxes loaded?”
“All done, my lord. Don’t worry!”
Wang Lun looked at Bran again and said, “These are some small goods. You may not understand now, but when the time comes, you will know if I’m right or not.
“Let’s go!”
Wang Lun and Bran got on the carriage.
When they arrived at the storefront Wang Lun bought, there were already many people gathered here.
They had all heard that today was the opening day of Wang Lun’s store, so they wanted to come and see what it was really like.
After all, this was probably the most novel news they had ever heard.
The city lord is also in business?
Wang Lun got out of the carriage, and the chatter of the people around him intensified.
“My lord, what are you selling?” one of them asked.
“You will know tomorrow,” Wang Lun replied with a smile.
He understood the mood of the people right now. People were invariably interested in something that had never happened before.
Even though they asked a lot of questions, Wang Lun only said the same thing.
Soon, all the boxes in the carriages were moved into the store.
Wang Lun opened the boxes and let several carriage drivers help carry out the items inside and set them on top of the pre-built frame.
As Wang Lun said, they were small items. But even so, when they were displayed, they attracted a lot of attention.
The people scrambled to enter Wang Lun’s store, only to be refused by him.
“My lord, let us have a look!” the people standing in the street curiously said.
Wang Lun spoke, “Hahaha, the store isn’t officially opened yet. I’ll definitely let you in for a tour tomorrow!”
These items were just common gadgets to Wang Lun, not worth mentioning at all.
But they were indeed unheard of, let alone seen before, in the eyes of the people.
“My lord, I’ll pre-order these items of yours!”
A merchant among the crowd stepped forward.
“Sure!” Wang Lun readily agreed.
Two carriage drivers carried a signboard out from inside the store, and hung it right above the store.
Transmigration Wholesale.
“You’re visionary, man!” Looking at the signboard, Wang Lun couldn’t help but praise that merchant.
But only Wang Lun knew that he was boasting about himself.
“My lord, I want to pre-order them too!” Another merchant stood out and said after seeing his peer’s action.
Wang Lun smiled and said, “Okay, the rest of you interested merchants come to me tomorrow to stock up.
“I know what you guys are thinking.
“All right, you guys stop crowding around here. Move along and do what you need to!”
Not only did the crowd cause a traffic jam, but they also took up a lot of space in Wang Lun’s store, so much so that he couldn’t do some preparation work.
The crowd looked at one another and left since there was no way around it.
The next day, Wang Lun’s store was officially open for business. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was indispensable, of course.
No one knew when it started, but the people of the city learned the custom of performing acts that represented festivities before officially doing anything.
After the ceremony, the merchants loaded their pre-ordered items onto the carriages.
The merchants were smart. After earning a fortune selling the newest and latest crops to the outside world, they began selling everything new outside the city as much as possible.
Because when it came to the outside world, the price would be much higher.
“Hey, my lord! You will have more stock next time, right?” A merchant boarded the carriage and said to Wang Lun.
Wang Lun nodded and said, “Yes, I have everything, though they were just sold out.
“But don’t worry, I will replenish the goods in time.”
The merchants led the convoy out of Yale City in a great deal of haste, and they were all aware that the goods couldn’t go in the same direction.
Because it would only create competition among them, and the goods would definitely have an inconsistent price then.
Even if the price when the goods were purchased wasn’t high, this would only make them feel like they were losing a lot of money.
This practice of the merchants not only maximized their own interests, but also improved the reputation of Yale City even further.
Many foreign merchants also wanted a piece of the pie and came to Yale City.
Although the marketplace was well organized, it seemed really chaotic. That was when Wang Lun developed the idea of building a commercial street.
