Chapter 57: Chapter 57 Mushroom Beast (Please Follow)
Lin Shen and Xu Tiange were still discussing the beast tide issue according to Xu Tiange, those Base Mutation Eggs that the Lin Family had gotten back came from the Blue Tree Sea.
A while ago, the number of Base Variant Creatures in the Blue Tree Sea had rapidly declined, while a type of steel creature known as the Mushroom Beast was rapidly breeding and increasing in number.
A group of Mutators had entered the Blue Tree Sea to hunt Mushroom Beasts, killing a large number of them, and also found a batch of Mushroom Beast Base Mutation Eggs.
Among them, one Mushroom Beast Base Mutation Egg was slightly different. Those Mutators had no clue and never considered the possibility of a Mutant Egg, so they sold the entire batch of Mushroom Beast Base Mutation Eggs to Lin Miao.
When Lin Miao was taking inventory, he discovered that Mutant Egg and immediately found a reliable person to send the Mutant Egg back to Dark Bird Base ahead of everyone else.
Later, Xu Tiange accidentally overheard one of the team members from that group of Mutators mention the incident while drinking and speculated that it might be a Mutant Egg, so he made a move and ambushed the Lin Family’s trade caravan.
What Xu Tiange wanted to talk about wasn’t the incident with him and the Lin Family’s trade caravan, but rather, afterward, he too took people to the Blue Tree Sea, wanting to see if they could find more Mutant Eggs.
However, after entering the Blue Tree Sea, the situation inside stunned Xu Tiange and all the other Mutators.
The Mushroom Beasts in the Blue Tree Sea were so numerous that it was beyond imagination, and the original Mushroom Beasts were all steel creatures, but they found a considerable number of Alloy Mushroom Beasts inside the Blue Tree Sea.
This discovery startled everyone, and Xu Tiange immediately came back to report the situation to Elder Mr. Xu.
Elder Mr. Xu personally led people to the Blue Tree Sea to check out the situation, and all signs indicated that it wouldn’t be long before the Mushroom Beasts would likely break out of the Blue Tree Sea. By then, a beast tide would likely form, and Yashen Base would definitely bear the brunt of it.
Elder Mr. Xu personally met with the Patriarch of the Lu Family, and after research, both families began to secretly prepare for battle.
“Shen, when I went there, I saw a colossal Mushroom Beast, massive like a small hill, and unlike the ordinary red-capped Mushroom Beasts, that huge Mushroom Beast had a blue cap. I’m sure it was a mutated Mushroom Beast. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough people with me at the time, and by the time my family’s elder got there, it had already disappeared without a trace. It’s such a pity,” Xu Tiange said with some regrets.
Lin Shen understood that Xu Tiange was ostensibly urging him to leave quickly, but in fact, he was trying to tempt him to stay and confront the Mushroom Beast tide.
Variant creatures indeed were quite attractive to ordinary Mutators, even if they couldn’t get a Mutant Egg, the materials from the body of a variant creature could sell for a high price.
Unfortunately, Lin Shen wasn’t an ordinary person. If Xu Tiange hadn’t mentioned the variant creature, he might have had a one in ten thousand chance of staying to watch the excitement.
But hearing that there were variant creatures in the Blue Tree Sea, Lin Shen immediately made up his mind to leave right away, to leave immediately and definitely not stay in Yashen Base any longer.
Originally, Lin Shen was thinking of taking care of the arranged meeting before leaving, but now he wouldn’t wait any longer, planning to pack up and return to Dark Bird Base as soon as possible.
“Tiange, my little brother, I just remembered something and have to go. Let’s call it a day and have a good chat another time,” Lin Shen said as he got up to leave.
“Shen, wait for me, I’ll walk you out,” Xu Tiange was a bit confused, not knowing what was going on with Lin Shen. They were having a good conversation and it wasn’t even finished yet, why was he in such a hurry to leave?
However, he couldn’t really ask and almost couldn’t keep up with Lin Shen’s pace. By the time he caught up, Lin Shen had already reached the main entrance with Wei Wufu.
“Stay your steps.” Lin Shen greeted and immediately hurried off with Wei Wufu, leaving Xu Tiange stunned at the doorway.
“Where to?” Wufu asked.
“Home,” Lin Shen said as he walked.
“The matter?” Wufu asked, slightly surprised.
“Won’t deal with it now, we’re heading back,” Lin Shen said as he walked and recounted the possibility of a beast tide coming out of the Blue Tree Sea.
“Beasts aplenty, perfect, kill them, benefits,” Wei Wufu’s eyes lit up.
“No matter the benefits, you still need to be alive to claim them. Who knows how many Mushroom Beasts there are in the Blue Tree Sea, how many Alloy Creatures, how many mutant creatures—and what if there are Crystal-based Creatures? Tens of thousands, possibly even hundreds of thousands of Base Mutation creatures, even if their levels aren’t high, could wear us out by sheer number. How long can your Alloy Carapace last? Three hours, or four? Fine, let’s say twenty-four hours, can you exterminate tens of thousands of Base Mutation creatures in twenty-four hours? Once your Alloy Carapace Guard is gone, can you guarantee your own survival amidst a swarm of beasts?” Lin Shen fiercely lectured Wei Wufu.
“You’re exaggerating,” Wei Wufu obviously didn’t agree.
“I might be exaggerating, but who’s to say my words won’t come true? You only live once. Even with a one in ten thousand chance, you can’t gamble with your life. There’s no negotiation. Listen to me, let’s go home now. This isn’t the place for us to stay. Before the Lin Family has a successor, I need to preserve this useful body of mine and avoid any risks,” Lin Shen immediately led Wei Wufu out of Yashen Base, summoned their mounts, and left without looking back.
Xu Tiange was stunned upon receiving the news, puzzled as to why Lin Shen just walked away.
“Didn’t the beast swarm I described scare him off? With that gun in his hand, he can easily kill Crystal Base creatures. What’s there to fear? Could it be something I said wasn’t right? That can’t be. My storytelling was quite engaging, with proper setup, development, climax, and suspense. It was attractive; how could he just leave? Isn’t the lure of the Mutant Mushroom Beast strong enough?” Xu Tiange scratched his head, trying to figure out where his words might have gone wrong.
He had wanted to attract Lin Shen and have him help out during the beast wave, but Lin Shen left just as they were getting started.
Lin Shen followed the same path back, eager to leave this trouble-filled place swiftly.
While galloping away, Wei Wufu ahead suddenly reined in his mount, causing Lin Shen nearly to collide with him.
“Wei, why did you suddenly stop?” Lin Shen barely managed to halt his mount and asked Wei Wufu beside him.
Without a word, Wei Wufu just pointed ahead on the road.
The road they were on, originally a county road, was now overgrown with various wild grasses. The middle of the road had faint signs of an asphalt path, though it was so damaged it was barely recognizable, full of pits and uneven surfaces.
This was still manageable because merchant caravans often traveled here—if not for them, it wouldn’t take long for the road to be completely overgrown with wild grass and vines.
Right in the middle of the road sat what looked like an overturned black wok, about ten or twenty meters away from the two of them.
“A Base Variant Creature?” As Lin Shen spoke, he made his mount back up behind Wei Wufu, used Base Mutation power to form a Carapace Guard covering his whole body, and drew the Angel Revolver from his waist.
Wei Wufu nodded slightly, drawing an Alloy Blade from his back as he too used his Base Mutation power.
Perhaps because of the clear attack stance of the two men, the “black wok” seemed to sense their intentions and began rotating left and right.
Then, with a bang, it leaped up from the ground.
Only then did Lin Shen realize the black wok was just a part of the Base Variant Creature, resembling a mushroom cap perched on top of its head.
Underneath the black mushroom cap was something that looked like a chibi version of a T-Rex, made of dark, metallic gold, like a figurine.
Overall, it resembled a half-meter tall, chibi dinosaur metal statue with a mushroom cap on top—a big head atop a small body, disproportionate, yet somehow imbued with an oddly adorable harmony.
“Is this a Mushroom Beast?” Lin Shen frowned slightly.
He remembered that normal Mushroom Beasts usually had red caps with gray-white spots and gray-white ferrous bodies.
Even if it were the Mutant Mushroom Beast Xu Tiange mentioned, it should have a blue cap. How then did this one with a black cap appear?
Its head does resemble the typical Red-cap Mushroom Beast, and its eyes also black, like large black gems.
