Chapter 25: Death Ray Encirclement
Under the bombardment of Adams’ magic scrolls, the battle in the cave instantly became one-sided.
Apart from Frank, who was a level-three warrior, the rest of the Wanderers were just ordinary people with a few level-one cultivators. Under the attack of a C-rank magic scroll, they had no chance of survival at all.
Additionally, the amount of scrolls in Adams’ hands was so large that it made people despair. In a short while, there were only a few dozen Wanderers left among the three-hundred-odd wanderers. They hurriedly fled out of the cave.
“Stop right there! None of you will be able to escape today!” Adams shouted hysterically as he flung scrolls around.
Constantine had already been stunned when Adams took out a military scroll. Even though he was already a high-ranking general of the military and had a spacecraft under his command, he rarely saw the magic scrolls distributed by the military.
Due to the shortage of resources, the military had a clear rule that unless there was a combat mission, they would not distribute magic scrolls to any army. Even during a war, the front line troops could only receive a few dozens of magic scrolls. Constantine had never seen such shocking squandering of magic scrolls like what Adams was doing.
Although Constantine was shocked by Adams’ actions at the start, he did not say much because the difference in numbers between the two sides was too great. Adams’ attack could effectively narrow this gap and greatly increase their chances of victory.
However, as the battlefield was gradually cleared out, the number of Wanderers decreased yet Adams still did not stop. Some of the Wanderers who escaped alone were also killed by Adams using the scroll.
“Enough! You’re too wasteful!” Constantine shouted as he rushed forward and grabbed Adams.
As a military personnel, especially a veteran soldier who had never seen so many spell scrolls before, Constantine could not accept Adams’ extravagant behavior.
Adams turned to look at Constantine and said indifferently, “It’s just a few scrolls, no need to make a fuss!”
Swallowing the cuss he almost blurted out, Constantine turned to look outside the cave. “They’re too dispersed. Your actions are not going to be of much use. We have to chase after them and eliminate them all. Otherwise, if we let them leave with the spacecraft, we’ll definitely attract more Wanderers!”
Adams asked in bewilderment, “What? There are other Wanderers?”
Constantine snorted coldly and said, “The Storm Squadron is one of the strongest organisations among the Wanderers. They are far more powerful than you think. Frank is just the captain of one of the teams, and the Storm Squadron’s large troop must be somewhere in the Zerg Realm. If they receive the news, none of us will be able to survive!”
Realizing the seriousness of the problem, Adams quickly put away the C-rank scrolls in his hand and started thinking of a solution to the problem.
Just then, Vivian walked out from behind a Zerg corpse. She raised her hand that wore the quantum ring and shouted, “Adams, I found a Zerg material that you need!”
Adams had long forgotten about his missions, but Vivian’s appearance made his eyes light up, and he said loudly, “Vivian, quickly go out and stop the Wanderers who are rushing to the spacecraft. No one is allowed to leave this place alive!”
Seeing Adams’ solemn expression and resolute tone, Vivian instantly understood what he meant and sprinted out of the cave.
“Nonsense! How can you let a girl who isn’t a cultivator settle this? Are you even a man?!” Seeing this, Constantine couldn’t help but berate Adams before hurriedly chasing after Vivian.
On the other hand, Adams smiled confidently and slowly followed Constantine out of the cave.
In the valley outside the Scarlet Cave, the Wanderers who had temporarily escaped were running amok towards the spacecraft. The only chance they had at survival was to quickly start the spacecraft and meet up with the leader of the Storm Squadron. Otherwise, sooner or later, they would die from the terrifying lightning.
When all the Wanderers who had escaped boarded the spacecraft, one woman and two men had also come chasing after them one after the other.
Vivian, who was at the forefront, saw that the spaceship had already been started up and would rise into the sky in a few seconds. A magic scroll instantly appeared in her hand, and she hurled it at the spacecraft with all her might.
Constantine, who had rushed over after Vivian couldn’t help but shout, “It’s useless! A C-rank magic scroll can’t harm the spacecraft at all. We can only…”
Before Constantine could finish his sentence, countless irregular purple pillars of light rose before his eyes like a three-dimensional fishing net, and instantly penetrated the spacecraft, easily shattering it into countless small pieces. It was as easy as cutting through a piece of tofu.
Every broken piece of the spacecraft that had been cut into pieces had a dark purple glow that was squirming and sticky. The purple glow spread downwards, rapidly disintegrating and evaporating in the air before completely dissipating into thin air eventually.
The valley suddenly became empty, as if there had never been a huge military spacecraft here!
When Constantine saw this, his legs gave out and he knelt on the ground. His brain was drawing a huge blank such that he forgot to think.
As it turned out, Adams wasn’t being irresponsible by letting a girl hunt down the Wanderers. He was fully aware of the horrifying attack she could cause.
Who would have thought that a girl who is participating in a coming-of-age ceremony will actually have a military A-rank magic scroll!
“That’s impossible. She’s not from the military. How could she have an A-rank scroll…” Constantine muttered under his breath, his eyes glazed.
“Nothing is impossible. The scroll she has was only picked up after she came to the Zerg planet. According to the rule you mentioned, whatever resources she picked up, regardless of rank, belongs to her!” Adams, who had walked up behind Constantine, said softly.
Constantine lowered his head helplessly. He regretted telling Adams so many of the Empire’s unspoken rules. There was even an instance where he wanted to kill Adams and take back all the military resources Adams had.
However, Constantine did not do that because he knew the terrifying power of an A-rank scroll. Even a level-three warrior could be easily killed, so he was no match for Adams at all right now!
Also, when he thought about how Adams had helped his subordinates take revenge, Constantine felt much more relieved. He would just take it as Adams’ gains, remuneration that Adams deserved!
Constantine sighed heavily and said, “What are you two planning to do next?”
Adams looked up at Vivian, who was walking back to them, and said, “Of course we will continue searching for mission materials. We have to pass the coming-of-age ceremony when we get back and earn the opportunity to become a cultivator!”
When Vivian heard this, she said with mixed feelings, “I’ve already found a Zerg material for you just now, but do you still want to collect the Evil Blood Spring in the cave?”
Adams lowered his head and hesitated for a moment. Then, he sighed and said, “Forget it! In order to reduce the number of unorthodox practices among the human race, I can forgo the S-rank evaluation!”
Vivian nodded silently. She couldn’t help but feel sorry for Adams. He clearly had the ability to break the record that no human had been able to complete in the past thousand years and achieve an S-rank evaluation for his difficult missions, yet he had no choice but to give up on it because of the secret information he had heard by accident.
At that moment, Constantine stood up and said, “No, you can continue to complete the mission! As long as you do something for me!”
