Chapter 26: A Deal
“What do you mean?” Adams asked, looking at Constantine in confusion.
Constantine looked at Adams and said in all seriousness, “Do you want to make a deal with me?”
Adams raised his eyebrows, seeming to have guessed what Constantine wanted to do. Intrigued, he said, “Tell me!”
“When you go back with enough Evil Blood Springs to complete your mission, just hand in your mission as per normal and pretend that you don’t know anything. Needless to say, I will inform trustworthy upper echelons to pay attention to the whereabouts of the Evil Blood Springs. Perhaps we might be able to find the traitor hidden in the military!” Constantine said. He was going to use the Evil Blood Springs that Adams brought back as bait.
Adams stroked his chin thoughtfully and asked with a smile, “This is very dangerous. Since this is a deal, what can I get out of it?”
“Secret support from the military!”
Looking at Adams solemnly, Constantine added, “As long as you go along with my plan, I’ll report your contribution to the military superiors when I get back. Although I can’t reward you openly, the military can support you in secret no matter what you do or what difficulties you face in the future!”
Adams was overjoyed. He had finally gotten his hands on the lucky chance that the system had given him. In this era of turmoil, what was more reliable than the military? With Constantine’s promise, he would have more confidence in whatever he did in the future!
However, Adams did not show any signs of joy on the surface. After a moment of hesitation, he said, “I can’t rely on a verbal agreement. Besides, you can’t even protect yourself right now. How can I trust you? Perhaps you should give me some benefits first. It will reassure me and can also prove your sincerity, isn’t it?”
As if he’d already expected Adams’ response, Constantine immediately removed a necklace from around his neck. The pendant portion was a small, unremarkable tablet. It was impossible to tell what material it was made of.
“This is for you!”
Constantine tossed the necklace to Adams and introduced, “This is a token given when a military personnel is carrying out a top-secret mission. As long as you show it to any military officer above the rank of colonel, you will be able to obtain help within their authority!”
Adams nodded and put away the necklace. Satisfied, he said, “Deal! I can help you with this matter, but I have to remind you. After all, the number of Evil Blood Springs required for my mission is pitifully small. It might not draw out the person you are looking for!”
Constantine said, “I know. That’s why I’m going to take all the Evil Blood Springs collected by the Wanderers and put them on the black market for a high price. Sooner or later, I’ll be able to wait for the person who needs them!”
Seeing that Constantine’s plan was very thorough, Adams didn’t worry about him anymore. He turned to Vivian and said, “Let’s go back to the Scarlet Cave and see if we can find the materials needed for other missions!”
“Okay!” Vivian nodded and said in response.
Just as the two of them turned around, Constantine called out to them again, “Wait a minute!”
“Hmm?” Adams turned to look at Constantine curiously.
Constantine took a deep breath and said, “Let’s make another deal. Those dead Wanderers should have quantum rings on them. I only want Frank’s quantum ring and the Evil Blood Spring collected by all of them. The rest is yours, but you have to give me the storage box in the spacecraft. Those are the things left behind by my subordinates. I want to keep them safe on their behalf!”
Adams and Vivian looked at each other, and said without any hesitation, “No problem. Let’s go inside the cave and do the handover!”
Constantine nodded solemnly before following Adams and Vivian back to the Scarlet Cave.
When they came to Frank’s body once again, Constantine completed the handover of resources with Vivian. When his gaze inadvertently landed on the wound at Frank’s waist, he froze.
That wound was obviously caused by a sword wound. Constantine, who had cultivated the Blood Devouring Battle Incantation, could tell with one glance that there were traces of blood being drawn from that wound!
Constantine was a seasoned player in both the government and underworld of the human race for many years, so he was quite knowledgeable. He had never heard of a weapon with the Blood Devouring effect. Thus, only a cultivator could achieve such an attack.
Furthermore, to Constantine’s knowledge, there was no battle technique or spell that could allow a cultivator to possess the ability to devour blood prior to their advancement to level three!
In other words, at the same time when he attacked Frank, a level-three warrior had also attacked Frank and absorbed his blood. This was what caused him to die on the spot in a flash!
Who is that person? Was it a spy that the leader of the Storm Squadron had planted around Frank, or is there someone else who is hiding their strength?
Constantine’s brows furrowed as he thought about this. He couldn’t help but turn to look at Adams, who was stocktaking with Vivian.
“Turns out that the ordinary members of the Wanderers are all wearing the lowest-grade quantum rings! Looks like internally, the Wanderers are also very strict on resources. We probably won’t be able to collect anything good from them!” Adams sighed in disdain as he held the ring that he had collected.
Beside him, Vivian was patiently examining the contents of each ring. She said with a smile, “That’s not necessarily the case! There will always be people who will keep some resources for themselves. For example, in this ring in my hand, I found another material that you need!”
“Really? That’s great!” Adams said happily.
Looking at Adams who was still working hard to find his mission materials, Constantine could only put his doubts away. If he’s really a cultivator, why will he care so much about the coming-of-age ceremony?
“You guys can continue with your mission, I’m making a move first!” Constantine said to Adams before walking out of the cave.
“Hey! Your spacecraft is gone. You had better go back with us through the portal for the coming-of-age ceremony!” Adams kindly reminded him.
Constantine waved his hand and said, “That won’t be necessary. I know the military has another base nearby, and there are a few backup spacecraft parked there. I have to hurry up and make arrangements before you go back!”
As he finished his sentence, Constantine vanished from Adams’ sight.
After verifying that the other party had left, the smile on Adams’ face gradually disappeared. His expression just now was simply for show. After all, he had nearly exposed his abilities when he stabbed Frank.
“I hope we can get away with it!” Adams sighed.
Vivian looked up at Adams and comforted him, “Actually, you don’t have to worry. After we go back and officially become cultivators, everything that happened here will be impossible to verify!”
Adams pondered for a moment. Then, he smiled and nodded.
Outside the valley, Constantine walked up the mountain road alone. He had found a military camera in Frank’s quantum ring. Out of habit, he turned on the recording function.
“I am Colonel Constantine of the Dawn Army. My code name is Judge. Today, I have finally avenged my dead subordinates. At the same time, I got to know a very interesting young man. He might be the first genius since the beginning of the War Era, to become a cultivator before completing his coming-of-age ceremony. Judging from the weapon he used, he should be a warrior…”
