Chapter 27: Return
When Adams and Vivian walked out of the Scarlet Cave, they were beaming with excitement.
After carefully going through the harvest inside the cave, the two of them had not only obtained more than 300 ordinary quantum rings, but also a large amount of Zerg materials, high-grade ores, and fresh fruits that they had just picked.
More importantly, they had found a total of four mission materials that Adams needed. In addition to the three missions that he had already completed previously, he had now completed a total of seven missions. After completing one more, he would be able to obtain an A-rank evaluation, and he was only three missions away from obtaining an S-rank evaluation!
Vivian had also obtained one mission material. She had completed nine missions and was just one mission short of getting an S-rank evaluation!
“I didn’t expect it to really be these Wanderers who had gathered the half-mountain worth of fruits before us! Thankfully, these fruits weren’t stored in Frank’s ring. Otherwise, if Constantine was the one who found them, he really might not have left them for us!” Vivian felt extremely lucky as she said this.
Adams, on the other hand, shook his head and said, “It’s not that we’re lucky. Rather, it’s that Frank doesn’t have any extra space to store fruits. He had to leave as much space as possible to collect the Evil Blood Springs. This just goes to show that the price offered by the buyer of the Evil Blood Springs far exceeds the price of fresh fruits!”
Vivian nodded, and then asked, “Where should we go next?”
Adams looked towards the outside of the valley and said firmly, “To continue the mission, of course!”
Even though Vivian had just experienced a massive battle, she wasn’t in the least bit afraid and continued to follow Adams down this unknown path.
Time passed day by day. Two weeks had passed since Adams and Vivian left the military base, but there was still no sign of their return.
Garen and the others had already recovered from their injuries, and they had already thoroughly explored the interior of the base. Every day, the six of them could only stroll around the base out of boredom, and look for things to do to pass the time.
“It’s been two whole weeks. The food Big Brother left us can only last for one more day. Are we really just going to wait here for Big Brother to come back?”
The thin boy whom Adams had rescued from the cliff, said worriedly as he squatted beside Garen.
Garen turned to his companion and questioned him, “Angus, are you thinking about leaving or are you doubting Big Brother’s abilities?”
The boy named Angus immediately retorted with a red face, “Nonsense! Big Brother Adams is the God who saved me. God! How could I possibly doubt him? I just feel that in the event that Big Brother can’t make it back in time, we can’t just wait here. We should at least do something. Otherwise, we’ll be a burden to Big Brother!”
Garen fell silent. After thinking about it for a while, he nodded and said, “What you said makes sense. If we keep waiting for Big Brother to bring food back to help us, not only will we appear useless, but we will also cause trouble for Big Brother!
“Let’s wait for a while more and see how things go. If Big Brother doesn’t come back before it gets dark, we’ll go out to scout and meet Big Brother and Miss Vivian. We can also find some food along the way!”
“Alright, I’ll inform the others!” Angus rose to his feet and said.
Garen stopped Angus and said, “Don’t call the others. It’ll just be the two of us going!”
“Just the two of us?” Angus asked in surprise.
Garen said solemnly, “It’s too dangerous outside, after all. If we ask everyone to go out together, if anything happens, won’t we be causing trouble for Big Brother again?”
Hearing this, Angus nodded and said, “Alright then, it’ll just be the two of us!”
As the sky gradually darkened, Garen and Angus sneaked out of the military base while the others were not paying attention. Standing on the desolate mountain road, they looked around in confusion. All of a sudden, they lost the courage they had before coming out.
In this vast Zerg realm, they were not as confident and bold as Adams, nor as determined and persistent as Vivian. Glancing around at the unknown and dangerous world around them, fear immediately rose in Garen’s and Angus’s hearts.
Slightly flustered, Angus asked in a soft voice, “Garen, which way should be go?”
“We’ll go whichever way Big Brother Adams went!” Galen said in a quavering voice.
“So which way did Big Brother go?” Angus pressed.
Garen shook his head and said, “I don’t know!”
Angus looked at Galen speechlessly, as if accusing him of having the nerve to bring him out here despite being clueless.
Garen scratched his head in embarrassment. Mustering up his courage, he pointed in the direction of the mountaintop and said, “Let’s go this way! With our Big Brother’s abilities, he must be a God who would climb up any mountain he sees. He must have gone this way!”
Angus nodded in agreement and said, “That makes sense. Let’s go!”
After making up their minds, the two of them hiked up the mountain with trepidation. However, they were not as capable as Adams, and found nothing even after reaching the top of the mountain.
Hiss! Hiss!
Suddenly, they heard a series of small and intense sounds coming from their surroundings, causing the already frightened duo to immediately become alert.
With their backs to each other, Garen and Angus looked around, but there was no one around them. All they could sense was that the ground in the distance seemed to be moving.
“Galen, do you see what’s on the floor?” Angus said nervously.
“I don’t know! But it’s not hard to guess. It must be Zergs!” Garen’s face turned deathly pale as he exclaimed in despair.
The moving “ground” quickly approached and surrounded Garen and Angus. Finally, they saw what the things surrounding them looked like.
The entire mountaintop was covered in a layer of translucent blue viscous liquid. Everything that came into contact with this liquid, aside from rocks and soil, was instantly melted as if they had never existed.
“Garen, hurry up and use the scroll Big Brother left for you!” Angus frantically shouted as he looked at the mountain top that had become barren in an instant.
“Coming, coming!” Garen immediately took out a Pyroblast scroll, crushed it, and threw it out.
However, when the scroll touched the liquid on the ground, it disappeared without a trace.
“Wh-what are these?! They can even swallow a B-rank scroll, we’ll die!” Garen shouted in despair, his eyes brimming with tears of indignance.
Hearing this, Angus closed his eyes in resignation and his entire body trembled as he waited for death to descend upon him.
When the blue liquid was about to spread to their feet, an icy blast of cold air came from the sky, making Angus and Garen shudder.
Crack!
Following the sound of frost condensing, Angus and Garen opened their eyes in surprise. All of a sudden, the blue liquid around them was frozen into a smooth icy surface, as if they were in an ice arena.
Seeing this, Garen and Adams were instantly filled with hope. They looked up at the sky in excitement and saw the figures that they had not seen in a long time.
“Hey! Didn’t I tell you to stay in the base? Why did you sneak out?”
In the sky, Adams, who was holding a sword in one hand, and Vivian, were holding a simple glider as they looked down at them with smiles on their faces and said this.
