Chapter 38: Chaos in the City
The Lion City Municipal Building was a huge steel building. All the important facilities in the city were placed in this building.
This included teleportation arrays that could be used for space hopping to the realms that had already been marked by the human race, as well as military machinery that could be used to deal with sudden wars. Therefore, not only were the defenses tight, but the metal walls on the outside were also very sturdy and indestructible!
Adams walked out of the Municipal Building and looked at the unfamiliar city in front of him. There was no one that he was well-acquainted with around him. For a moment, he was at a loss and didn’t know where to go.
However, Adams knew that he could not stop. When the news of him completing a difficult mission list spread throughout the city, countless dangers would come knocking on his door!
After taking a deep breath, Adams pulled up his collar to cover the lower half of his face. Then, he stepped onto the wide street and blended into the crowd.
The situation in Lion City was pretty much the same as most of the cities in the Empire. The disparity between the rich and poor in the city was very severe, so the architectural styles in the various districts were completely different.
The Eastern and Western districts were the standard commoner districts where it was all ordinary residential buildings. They were also the two most featureless cities.
The Northern part of the city was the most chaotic slum in Lion City. Nearly half of the population of Lion City lived there, and a large number of commoners in the lowest rung of society gathered there. They did not have jobs or education qualifications. Thus, they could only rely on low-quality alcohol or picking fights to kill time.
At the same time, the Northern district was also a paradise for gangs and criminals. Bloodbaths and even deaths were common occurrences there.
On the other hand, the Southern district was where the nobles and wealthy merchants gathered. Therefore, every house here looked majestic and grand. The towering walls and huge gates made people feel intimidated.
The Wester Family’s mansion was one of the biggest houses in the Southern district. It was like a manor built in the city.
In the living room, the patriarch of the Wester family, Jude Wester, sat on the sofa with his head lowered. In deep sorrow, he remained silent.
Archmage Jayce, who was sitting across from him, said emotionally, “Jude, now is not the time to feel sad for Anthony. We have to avenge him. With Anthony’s strength, if no one harmed him, there is no way he would have lost his life in the Zerg Realm. From what I see, it definitely has something to do with Miss Vivian and that man named Adams!”
Chief Jude shook his head and said with a deep gaze, “Although Anthony is my son, he is not my only son. Even though I am sad about his death, I will not forgo the family’s interest for his sake!
“Based on what you said, Vivian from the Kevin family has attained an S-rank evaluation, so her future achievements will be limitless. Instead of questioning how Anthony died, I should immediately arrange for other heirs to propose marriage to the Kevin family! As for that Adams, I should befriend him and see if he can be of use to me!”
Jayce stared at Jude fixedly. Although he was on good terms with the Wester family, it was because of his relationship with the previous family head. He was very displeased with Jude from the younger generation.
The reason being that Jude was too dark and scheming. He prioritized gains in everything he did, thereby lacking a bit of humanity.
Hence, Jayce was especially close to Anthony, who liked to stick to him. He had doted on Anthony since he was young and was more like Anthony’s father than Jude was.
Hence, Jude may not investigate Anthony’s death but Jayce would definitely get to the bottom of it!
Jayce stood up and looked at Jude with disappointment. He said coldly, “In that case, I’ll personally avenge Anthony. From Miss Vivian’s expression previously, I’m certain that Adams is related to Anthony’s death!
Now that I think about it, he must have stolen Anthony’s materials to complete all the high-difficulty missions. Otherwise, how would he be able to hand in so many S-rank Zerg materials and ores?! ”
Jude’s eyes suddenly lit up when he heard this. At this moment, he suddenly realized that Anthony’s death might be the best opportunity to enrich the Wester family’s vault!
“Just a moment!”
Jude called out to Jayce, who was about to leave. The grief of losing his son appeared on his face again, and he said, “Anthony is my son, so of course I should be the one to personally avenge him!”
Jayce didn’t realise what Jude was really thinking. Instead, he was very gratified by his change of mind. He said agitatedly, “Alright! In that case, I’ll leave the investigation to you. I can also provide you with some help within my authority. When you find the real murderer who killed Anthony, I’ll naturally help the Wester family take action!”
Jude nodded. Then, he shouted towards the door, “Guards!”
Light footsteps immediately sounded outside the door, followed by a respectful voice, “Chief, what can I do for you?”
“Investigate the people who came back from this coming-of-age ceremony. Investigate every single one of them thoroughly. At the same time, find out what they saw and heard in the Zerg realm!” Jude instructed in a solemn voice.
“Yes!”
The servant outside the door accepted the order and left.
Seeing Jude’s sincerity, Jayce instantly felt relieved. Before leaving, he didn’t forget to turn around and remind Jude, “Miss Vivian must know something. If you haven’t found any clues for the time being, you can visit the Kevin Family!”
Jude nodded, but he didn’t intend to go to the Kevin Family right now. He did not even intend to take revenge for Anthony. He simply wanted to know if Adams had brought back any other materials aside from the materials he handed in for his missions!
As the sun set, Lion City, which had gradually quieten down, suddenly became lively. All the forces under the Wester family had been deployed to inquire about Adams’ identity and whereabouts.
At the same time, a high bounty had been offered in Lion City’s underworld, in search of Adams’ whereabouts.
In a cold and damp basement room that was only three or four square meters in the Northern district, Adams was curled up on a bed made of several scraps of paper and quietly looking at the moonlight outside the window.
This room that was like a jail cell, was the only property that Adams had inherited from the original owner after his transmigration to this place. It was also where he had spent three of his most desperate days after his transmigration.
Adams still remembered how weak and helpless he was back then. He was filled with despair and sorrow. However, after this coming-of-age ceremony, he had acquired a vast amount of wealth, the Glorious Association, and a ton of secrets!
“No matter how terrible this world is, I must live my life well. I must live better than everyone else!” Adams muttered.
Tap tap tap!
All of a sudden, the sound of footsteps could be heard coming from the window facing the horizon. Adams immediately became alert and sat up.
“Looks like the Wester family is more powerful than I thought. They’ve found me so quickly!” Adams sighed softly, before quietly climbing out of the back window.
Adams knew that he wasn’t strong enough to fight the Wester family head-on, so he could only avoid the Wester family for the time being. At the same time, he couldn’t completely disappear. He had to maintain this dangerous state of living on the edge so that the brothers of the Glorious Association would have time to hide and it would also buy time for Vivian’s plan!
