Chapter 1: The Unfathomable Applications

Afternoon in June was frustratingly hot.
Lu Chuan carried his luggage while running wildly through a road in the countryside under the scorching afternoon heat.
Seeing his tense expression, it seemed as though he was being chased by terrifying monsters.
This was actually a village outside the outskirts of the provincial capital. Looking up, you could already see the tall buildings standing in the suburbs of the provincial capital in the distance. A hundred meters from the side of the country road, there was a highway filled with cars roaring by.
It was a hot day and he had run along the entire road. Large beads of sweat covered his forehead, but Lu Chuan didn’t bother to wipe them away.
“Uncle, sir, ancestor… do me a favor and stop following me, okay?”
Even though he was panting heavily, Lu Chuan still turned and finished his sentence, a pleading expression on his face. The frantic chase had exhausted all his energy, and now, it was difficult for him to even move a finger.
The mysterious disorder of time and space made Lu Chuan’s head feel numb, and he hadn’t returned to his senses.
There was a dull pain in his head. It pulled at him, making him uncomfortable.
He seemed to have thought of something, but cold sweat constantly dripped down his forehead, forming a layer of crystal-clear water droplets. Suddenly, a deep, gut-wrenching fear clouded his vision.
It was only when the speeding vehicles on the highway came into focus that Lu Chuan began to ease up.
Behind Lu Chuan stood a middle-aged man. He wore a white shirt and trousers and a pair of leather shoes. There wasn’t a hint of emotion on his face as he chased Lu Chuan.
There wasn’t even a trace of expression in his eyes. He displayed a hollowness that could leave one trembling.
Lu Chuan looked as though he had been fished out of the water; there wasn’t a dry spot on him. But strangely, there wasn’t even a drop of sweat on the middle-aged man behind him. It was as though he hadn’t been running on a hot day, but had instead gone for a stroll in the early morning.
If Lu Chuan hadn’t watched this middle-aged man chase after him this entire time, Lu Chuan would have believed he had been walking around casually.
No, he shouldn’t be using the word “he.” Instead, he should use “it.”
That was the reason for Lu Chuan’s fear. The middle-aged man was so ordinary he wouldn’t have been able to locate him in a crowd. But in reality, who would have known he was a zombie?
Zombie: a terrifying word that only exists in novels and movies. But not too long ago, this one appeared in front of Lu Chuan, almost scaring him to death.
It was unbelievable. After Lu Chuan returned to the provincial capital from his hometown, he didn’t dare to be respectful because of the bedding on the long-distance bus. In his boredom, he randomly downloaded a game from the built-in app store in his phone. Who knew that while running the game, he would be teleported to the apocalypse and become the boss of a biochemical plant.
At that moment, Lu Chuan was definitely confused, his mind blank.
It took much effort to calm down. Lu Chuan stood in the product exhibition hall.
In the product exhibition hall, he could see many glass columns.
There were dozens of them, each with a diameter of more than three meters and a height of ten meters. Among these glass columns, there was only one arrayed with products, while the other columns were empty.
At the start, Lu Chuan didn’t care about them, but when he saw the product in that single glass column, a bone-chilling fear clutched his heart and his face turned pale.
It was a rotting face. The cracks in the mottled skin had turned dark, a fluid like black ink flowing from them.
In its slightly open mouth, the head’s exposed teeth were yellow, and the red-black gums were full of blisters. Just a glance and Lu Chuan realized that its mouth was likely full of maggots.
Sparse hair that had mostly fallen out was hanging limp from its head.
The white shirt was worn out, and had turned gray, dried blood splashed over it.
Its hands were straight, and two fingers were missing. The black nails covered with mud were long and sharp, and the pair of eyes had lost their supposed luster. They were completely dark, like the eyes of a dead goldfish.
Influenced by dramas and movies, Lu Chuan knew what it was at a glance.
The product inside this glass column turned out to be a zombie
Bang bang bang…
There was a sudden hurricane-like impact.
The moment Lu Chuan appeared, the originally silent zombie moved abruptly and started clawing and smashing at the glass column. Judging from its savage expression, it seemed intent on breaking the glass.
The zombie hit the glass, leaving a streak of black liquid on it and revealing a horrifying hideousness.
If it rushes out…
You could imagine Lu Chuan’s fear. The zombies in movies carried a virus and the moment they injured someone, the person would be infected. That was even more frightening than death.
With a blank mind and a confused expression, Lu Chuan had no idea how he returned to the bus.
The long-distance bus had a familiar and disgusting smell. In that instant, everything he had experienced seemed like a dream.
However…
The situation was so mysterious. Lu Chuan found a middle-aged man beside his bed. His face was blank without a trace of expression and his eyes were so hollow that he couldn’t see a hint of color.
He looked like the walking dead.
More importantly, when Lu Chuan cast his eyes on him, the information that appeared on the middle-aged man terrified Lu Chuan.
Zombie Servant: Level-one product of the biochemical plant; ordinary zombie. As the factory boss, how can you be without a servant? As a welfare product, the zombie is automatically loaded with a disguiser program. When he travels through time and space, the virus will be isolated. He has rigid executive ability and 100% loyalty.
The blurb appeared at the top of the middle-aged man’s head.
It was extremely strange. Lu Chuan could guarantee that he was the only one that could see the explanation, because the other people in the bus didn’t react at all, glancing at them occasionally before immediately looking down to play with their phones.
Lu Chuan wasn’t all right. This wasn’t a middle-aged man, this was a real zombie.
This was a zombie! If he hurt someone while carrying a virus, the world would be finished.
The explanation mentioned that the virus had been isolated. But who knew if that was true?
An ordinary virus would have been fine, but it was a zombie virus that could be transmitted through the air. When the time came, only a small minority with a super immune system would survive while the rest of the population would become zombies. They would be everywhere, filling cities and overrunning the world
The brutal scenes in movies were about to become reality.
When the time came, Lu Chuan would be the betrayer of mankind and would be blamed even in death.
At that moment, Lu Chuan was so frightened that he was trembling, and the horror in his eyes was visible. And because of excessive panic, a layer of cold sweat covered his face in an instant.
“Ahhh!”
The scream of horror drew the attention of the passengers of the entire long-distance bus. They stared at Lu Chuan, bewildered, wondering why the young man was screaming.
A driver who was resting had an angry expression on his face. He was woken up just as he fell asleep.
Lu Chuan could not care what other people thought. He bounced off the bed abruptly, grabbed his backpack, and rushed to the door. He was yelling before he reached the door, “Stop, stop!”
Seeing the ferocious look on Lu Chuan’s face, the angry driver squashed his intention to reprimand him.
The long-distance bus was driving on the highway.
Lu Chuan couldn’t care less. Imagine how it felt to be in the same cubicle as a zombie. In his panic, his first reaction was to escape.
Logically speaking, it was unlikely for a bus to stop on the highway to let a passenger out.
The zombie was disguised as a middle-aged man and was walking toward Lu Chuan, his eyes still hollow and emotionless.
Lu Chuan started to panic and kicked the door. “F*ck, stop the bus.”
In the face of a lunatic like Lu Chuan, the driver could only flash the turn signal, stop in the emergency lane, and open the door. They were on a highway, and God only knew what sort of radical behavior this madman would get up to. A mistake could result in either a car crash or death.
Seeing the door open, Lu Chuan shot right out.
On the highway, Lu Chuan ran recklessly in the emergency lane. When he looked back, he was so terrified that he almost fell.
The zombie had followed him off the bus and, when he saw Lu Chuan running, followed relentlessly.
“F*ck!”
At this moment, Lu Chuan felt as though a thousand horses were running wildly.
First, he ran on the emergency lane, then he climbed over the highway railing, landing on a small road in the countryside beside the highway. The zombie disguised as a middle-aged man followed him throughout.
Lu Chuan didn’t slow, but his stamina was worlds apart from the zombie’s. It was impossible to shake him off.
And that was the lead-up to Lu Chuan’s current pleading.
