Episode 1 – The Abandoned Princess’ Secret Bedroom
The Princess of the Brygent Empire.
The only daughter of the former King Falun and sister of King Bastian.
She is one of the golden feathers of the Raven royal family, which is said to have been the guardian bird of God.
The bloodline of the deceased.
Her palace was the most comfortable and beautiful place.
All she wore were the softest clothes of the finest weave.
The jewels she wore showed off the beauty of her skin, which glowed as if it contained its own light.
Her clothes quickly became the capital’s trendiest.
But that was all in the past.
Lewellyn was unhappy.
To be exact, Lewellyn’s life was not smooth.
No, in a word, her life was a mess.
“I’ve never been more aware of it than I am today”, Lewellyn gritted her teeth. She entered the banquet hall with a tearful grip on the hem of her blue dress.
People looked at her when the servant announced her presence. There was no respect for the princess in those gazes.
The abandoned Princess of Brygent.
That was what they were calling Lewellyn.
The princess, who would have become Brygent’s golden raven and was considered the most noble, was miserably abandoned.
Being hurt by the changed gazes was a thing of the past. Her body felt hot as if she had swallowed a ball of fire. Sweat was about to flow down her body, but she had to hold on and cooled herself.
She didn’t know for how long she could hold on, but she had to put up with it.
Patience.
That’s how Lewellyn survived.
If she collapses here, Queen Dowager Pamela will attack her. Lewellyn thought it was Pamela’s fault that her body looked like this. No, she probably wouldn’t even be standing here then. Sweat dripped down her chin.
“Lewellyn, what’s going on?”
The King of Brygent, her half-brother Bastian, asked anxiously. At a voice that only those close to her could hear, Lewellyn shook her head with a faint smile.
“No, nothing. I’m all right, Your Majesty.”
“If you’re not feeling well, why don’t you go in and rest?”
Lewellyn almost nodded for a moment. It was because she clearly knew that Bastian’s worries and affection were sincere. But…
“Your Majesty, I don’t think it’s desirable for a royal woman of our nation to leave her position under the pretext of a physical condition.”
“Mother, I beg of you.….”
Her half brother was a puppet of the Queen Dowager[1]. Nor was the Queen Dowager’s meddling surprising. So, Lewellin held onto herself and focused on calming her body’s heat.
“You should listen to me, Your Majesty. As an adult of the royal family, she needs a proper education. It hurts as a mother to neglect her physical condition ahead of an important event, but I can’t accept her childishness. A member of the royal family sometimes has to be patient.”
“…….”
“Isn’t this a celebration of the return of the Duke of Biserk, the master of the Holy Sword?”
Lewellyn was flabbergasted to hear the name, maybe because of how obviously perturbed she was. Queen Dowager Pamela raised the corners of her red lips. A pale olive green dress contrasting with her vivid blue jewelry. The splendid golden embroidery, which painted delicate patterns on her clothes, gave an impression of the Queen Dowager’s presence. A year ago, the precious purple dress she wore was so beautiful that it was still talked about.
Pamela said gracefully waving an ostrich’s feather fan.
“My daughter will welcome him back, won’t she?”
“Yes.”
“I knew it. He is your childhood friend.”
“…….”
“I don’t think you are going to break my heart just because you’re upset about your mother’s mistake.”
Despite her weakness, she dared to humiliate Lewellyn in public to reaffirm her superior position. The Duke of Biserk was her most painful wound. The princess had already fallen, and Pamela crushed Lewellyn as if to reconfirm.
The nobles stared at Pamela and Lewellyn and held their tongues. It was normal for them to see the stepmother being hateful to her stepdaughter, even more so if her son was to succeed the throne after generations without heirs.
“It won’t happen,” said Lewellyn.
What Pamela wants is her despair.
If she runs away from here, Pamela will bully her even more. She made up her mind after being abandoned, she won’t rebel against Pamela.
Lewellyn sat next to the king with her hands together. As a member of the royal family, she was expected to welcome the owner of the Holy Sword. The young Duke Armandite Biserk, who wiped out the demon summoning magicians, should be properly congratulated. As soon as she sat down, the trumpet sounded as if they had been waiting for her.
Walking down the middle of the red carpet was a man. It was an unrealistic sight, like watching a play.
Lewellyn stared at the man as if nothing had happened. The man whom she met six years ago, had grown taller since the last time she’d seen him. Perhaps no one was taller than him in the banquet hall, except maybe Tristan Zayad, the first knight of the kingdom.
Elegant aristocracy flowed at every step of the Duke’s walk. It was not arrogance, it was the pride carved from a noble birth down to his very bones.
Dark red boots, neatly shone in the colorful lights of the banquet hall. The man is as colorful as a well-crafted Garnet and as captivating as an artist’s masterpiece.
His eyes were neither disrespectful nor polite, and his clothes were perfect for his handsome body. He looked at the people as if he were assessing them, but his blue-green eyes were elegant.
He returned as a very attractive young man from the boy she had remembered.
Lewellyn’s heart thumped. The fever that had been suppressed began to spread throughout her body. For a moment, she felt the man’s blue-green eyes on her. She bowed her head to suppress the sensation of heat in her body. Her hands shook at the hem of her skirt.
She thought it would be hard to hold on for a long time.
“Duke of Biserk, welcome.”
King Bastian stood up and welcomed him.
“I see your Majesty. I’m sorry I couldn’t participate on the first day of honour.”
“That’s enough. I didn’t have a problem with it, so it doesn’t matter. I couldn’t sleep because I was so happy to hear about your aid.”
Bastian smiled brightly. The ladies’ faces glazed over at his smile, which resembled a beautiful painting.
“It’s all thanks to Your Majesty’s care.”
Lewellyn smiled coldly. The Duke of Biserk, who was loyal to his dead mother, bowed to the King.
It was disgusting, but if she were to leave now, she’d be subject to gossip from everyone. Lewellyn especially didn’t want to be noticed by that man, Armandite.
Praise poured for the Duke, who completely wiped out the Black Wizard Group, which had been sacrificing humans and had devastated the population.
The Black Wizards themselves were a powerful force. They served and worshipped demons. In a word, they were the scourge of this kingdom and many others. Even the spells they used were different from ordinary spells. The Duke of Biserk, who wiped out their home base, deserved praise. What surprised people more was that he had a sword that disappeared into the Duke’s hand.
Armandite failed to prevent the most important thing. Lewellyn gave a cold smile, and anger seemed to flow through her body.
“Princess Lewellyn looks healthy, too.”
At that time, Armandite said something unnecessary.
How dare you!
Fire surged in Lewellin’s eyes. She saw with her own eyes that the Duke of Biserk, the strongest supporter of his dead mother, had killed her mother.
For her own safety, he even acted as a guard who led her mother to the executioner. He even took her younger brother, Alpias, from Lewellyn. Although he didn’t seem to hurt him.
“I didn’t know that the Duke would care more about my well-being than my mother’s.”
The reason why Lewellin dared to say “mother” was to be sarcastic. There was a moment of instant silence, because it was unclear what Lewellyn’s mother would say.
“That princess is as good as ever,” The nobles whispered softly.
“She spoke so coldly to the great knight, Sir Jayad.”
“She can’t congratulate the person who saved the country, how ridiculous.”
“She doesn’t even know her mother was wrong.”
Lewellyn also thought it was foolish to isolate herself, but she didn’t care. Rumors were already rife that she was a princess whose personality became erratic due to her abandonment and despair. Her life has been hell ever since her mother died twenty days ago. Her life was now at the bottom of the abyss, when danger signals rang from her body.
“I am not feeling well. Your Majesty, please allow me to leave.”
In the end, Lewellyn declared her defeat and ran away.
