Chapter 38
***
* Summary Execution.
Everyone was taken aback by the sudden order. The Maud siblings were bewildered. Allen raised an eyebrow. The foolish Princess would not give up her pride, and it looked like she would end up paying for it.
“Princess, I will follow your orders…!”
Dane, the deputy commander of the Red Knights, drew his sword and pointed it at Allen.
“Sir, do you know what you are doing?! Executing a White Knight will make our knight orders enemies…”
“The White Knights, who value honor, will not be our enemies. Anyone who takes the side of Sir Maud will be committing treason against the Royal Family.”
Llewelyn added emphasis to the word ‘treason’, making eye contact with Vivian.
“What are you doing?”
Vivian’s eyebrows furrowed.
Llewelyn spoke sternly.
“Your brother drew his sword in front of a Royal without permission. Miss Maud, do you know what felony this is?”
‘No, do you have a problem with that?’
Vivan wanted to snap at her, but she couldn’t.
Allen glared at the strict Princess and shouted.
“Princess!”
“This is disloyalty towards the Royal Family. Sir Allen pointed his sword at me. He even swung it at me, a member of the Royal Family! It is an inexcusable offense.”
Allen, who was momentarily speechless, wheezed.
“It was because the Princess was trying to protect the maid…”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“What?”
“It doesn’t matter if Sir Allen deliberately tripped the maid who couldn’t see because she was carrying laundry, or if she accidentally bumped into you. Your situation is the same.”
Allen and Vivian’s faces turned white. They finally realized what they had done.
Vivian bit her lip. Allen was reckless. He was overconfident in their victory, and he ended up being a letdown.
“Wow, Princess! Do you know what you are doing?”
Llewelyn responded coolly to Allen’s taunt.
“Are you threatening me, or are you asking me a question?”
“…”
“Either way, it doesn’t change that you have been disrespectful. You are not even apologizing properly.”
Vivian glared at Llewelyn angrily. The helpless Princess who knelt down and begged Pamela was nowhere to be seen. Llewelyn raised her chin and continued.
“I bowed my head, how are you going to apologize, Sir?”
Llewelyn’s amber eyes gleamed. Allen felt a chill. Her elegant way of expressing anger was similar to that of the previous Queen.
Dane nervously asked.
“Princess, what should I do?”
“Proceed with the execution.”
Dane gripped his sword’s handle. His hands were sweating. There was too much on the line.
However, this man had been ignoring the Red Knights, arguing that he was Allen Maud, a member of the White Knights. He also knew that the Red Knights ridiculed their leader for being ignorant and incompetent.
Killing a count’s son on the Princess’ orders would be exhilarating, but he was worried about the aftermath. However, if he did not follow her orders, Tristan, who would inevitably find out about it, would almost certainly execute him for disobeying. His superior was that kind of man. Wouldn’t it be better to die this way than that way?
Just as Dane was about to pull out his sword…
“S-sorry! I was wrong!”
Allen squeaked and knelt down. There was clear cowardice in his actions. Vivian couldn’t believe it. Her brother, whose pride could pierce the sky, knelt down so easily.
“Have mercy on me, Princess. I was ignorant.”
“…”
“Drawing a sword without the Princess’s permission and swinging it was my mistake.”
Llewelyn looked down at him with an unknown expression. All that could be heard was Allen’s rapid breathing. Vivian bit her lip, ashamed, and turned away.
Llewelyn eagerly watched what Allen was doing. It had been a long time since someone knelt in front of her. Then she turned to Rosalie.
“Rosalie.”
“Yes, Princess.”
Llewelyn reached out to her. Rosalie looked between Llewelyn’s hand and face alternately. When she finally took it, Llewelyn whispered softly.
“Did you see? Apologize as well.”
“…”
“You have to state what you did and that you are sorry.”
Llewelyn’s voice was soft, but there was dignity in her tone. Rosalie answered right away.
“Yeah. I’m sorry.”
“Apologize.”
At Llewelyn’s words, Rosalie hesitated. It was because apologizing to a kneeling knight was ironic. However, after realizing that this situation was caused by Llewelyn, Rosalie immediately bowed her head.
“I am sorry. I made a mistake and blamed the knight.”
“Rosalie, not over here, over there.”
Llewelyn glanced at Vivian, and Rosalie lowered her head again.
“I apologize, Miss Maud. I have soiled the skirt of your precious dress.”
“…”
Receiving the apology, Vivian smiled, though her lips were trembling. Noticing this, Llewelyn smirked and said.
“I’ll forget about the sins of Sir Maud. Do you really want to press the issue of my maid’s education?”
Allen’s face turned red. Vivian was the same. It was the maid’s education that caused Allen to almost be executed. Llewelyn had bowed, but it was a huge humiliation for the Mauds. Didn’t the Princess’ mercy save their life?
“Leave them alone.”
Leaving behind the stupid Maud siblings, Llewelyn walked with Rosalie.
*
Llewelyn returned to her residence and sat down, exhausted. She called out to one of her maids.
“Could you bring me some cold water?”
“Yes, yes!”
The maid ran out. Llewelyn leaned her back on her chair and took a deep breath. She sipped the water the maid had brought and looked into the cup.
Lemon slices floated on the water. She had never drank lemon water before. Llewelyn, who was puzzled, got up from her seat to ask the maid about it, and found Rosalie kneeling in front of her.
“Did you come here to get medicine for your cheek?”
Tears fell from Rosalie’s eyes.
“U-uh huh. Princess.”
“…”
“Thank you, Princess.”
Rosalie cried. Tears dripped down her cheeks and hit the floor. Llewelyn rolled her eyes. No, why was she acting this way? Was she crazy?
“Why are you doing this all of a sudden?”
“Thanks to the Princess, I didn’t have my feet cut off. Thank you, thank you.”
“Don’t worry. Make sure to always examine your surroundings, and if you see a noble, avoid them. If you make a mistake, apologize unconditionally.”
“…”
“Even if it’s unfair, it can’t be helped. Because not all of the Royal Family is like me.”
Llewelyn sighed. Why were all the maids clasping their hands together and bowing? Then the head maid came forward.
“Thank you, Princess.”
“…”
“Thank you. I am well aware of your hard work.”
“It doesn’t matter. You still act cockily.”
“I will correct my behavior.”
Llewelyn wanted to end this uncomfortable conversation, but the maid seemed unwilling. Llewelyn drank her lemon water and stared at the maids, including Rosalie, who had not left her spot on the floor.
“Why are you doing this? What do you want to say?”
As the maids looked at her with moist eyes, Llewelyn felt cramped. She eventually got up.
“Don’t follow me.”
Llewelyn let out a cold sigh. It was inconvenient for them to have such an expression. Passing through the hallway, Llewelyn was deep in thought.
“Be careful.”
“Hey!”
Llewelyn looked around to locate the source of the voice. It was the knight named Dane who had just accompanied her. She remembered him as the deputy commander.
“I didn’t know you were following me.”
“Sorry.”
Her heart was pounding.
“Where are you going?”
“I want to go to the greenhouse. It’s uncomfortable to be here.”
Dane nodded at Llewelyn’s words.
“The maids thank me so much, so can you please stay with me for a little while?”
Llewelyn chuckled. It was ridiculous, but she roughly understood their intentions. She should take this opportunity to make the maids leave her alone.
“They don’t need to thank me. I’m having a headache thinking about what will happen next. Miss Maud will tell the Queen, and I will be tormented.”
“Then why did you save the maid?”
“Because a maid bowed her head and asked for it.”
“…”
Dane did not understand her logic. Because a maid bowed her head, Llewelyn confronted Vivian, and by extension, the Queen who tormented her? However, her actions were sincere. The maid whose ankle was threatened to be cut off was young, so he bowed his head to her.
