She stared directly at the surveillance camera flashing red. It had to be working.
Who wanted to kill her?
Right there in that lift, together with so many stakeholders and founding elders!
“What… what is that smell?”
Everyone began coughing.
“The gas is coming from the air-conditioner. I can’t breathe… Shit! Someone is trying to kill us!”
“Someone wants to kill–”
Suddenly, everyone in the lift understood the situation.
They all looked at Quan Jin, showing their concern and fear. However, Quan Jin did not even see it as a threat.
She stepped forward and placed her hand on the gap of the two lift doors. They could all see her lips twitching. She was mouthing… open…the door?
Three seconds went by.
Five seconds.
The toxic gas started to permeate their lungs. Everyone in the lift was breaking out into cold sweat and turning pale. Their lives were in danger.
Cough, cough…
“It’s alright, Jin, stop trying. It’s our fault that we insisted on having this meeting, which caused–”
“It’s all uncle’s fault, if the lift door could not be opened–”
Suddenly…
Ding dong!
The warning sound cut them off.
More than twenty of them suddenly looked up and witnessed the lift doors slowly open by themselves.
They were speechless.
Had the doors just opened?
What was even more terrifying was that they had already reached the first floor.
“The lift doors opened? We–we are safe!”
That was quick?
They were stunned. Even seven years before, Quan Jin had only been good at business and medicine. She couldn’t possibly have done that. There seemed to be nothing that she couldn’t achieve.
“Go to the hospital, cleanse your lungs and stomach.” She stood outside the lift and commanded the senior officers who were screaming.
Quan Jin then stared into the surveillance camera located at the top right-hand corner of the lift, and threatened, “I forgot to remind you in the meeting room.”
“The Quan Jin that you knew seven years ago was only good at business and medicine. But the new me? There’s nothing that I can’t do! Nothing! The most highly secured Prison of Jiang awaits you tomorrow morning. Enjoy the time that you have left.”
She turned away with her aggressive tone and scornful smile. No one could stop her from checking herself out in the mirror back home.
All the senior officers and founding members almost dropped their jaws.
“Prison?”
“Jin, wait a minute.”
“Tell me, do you know who wants you dead?” The eldest founding member asked Quan Jin.
They were all pressing on their suffocating chests and stared at Quan Jin’s back.
“The one who wasn’t here apparently!”
She answered his question with determination, though she sounded like she couldn’t be bothered anymore.
Who wasn’t there? Wasn’t everybody there?
They looked at one another confusedly and started to count the number of people present. The first and second founding elders… the chief financial officer, the deputy director… were all there.
Who was the one–
All of a sudden, their eyes opened wide. Everyone started at the direction that Quan Jin had left, finding it hard to believe.
“It was him!”
“How is that even possible? The… the one who wanted to kill her was… how could it be–”
