Chapter 15
“No, this is too much.”
I shook my head gently, looking at the servants’ buttons. Of course, the buttons of the wealthy Duke of Creighton’s servants were made of shiny gold…
‘Where do I keep it?’
That’s the problem. There’s no place to hide.
Ah, should I ask the Gods’ help?
[ The constellations are rummaging through their pockets. ]
‘Don’t do it. Never mind…’
It would be cumbersome if people were to find out about my abilities. So, don’t do it!
[ The constellations are gloomy. ]
‘Just don’t create any incidents. That will be enough to help me.’
I have no intention of receiving anything for a while.
The Duke has accepted me, and now, all I have left to do is grow up safely under his protection. In case of an emergency, I’ll probably get help, though for now, I don’t need one.
[ The ‘Queen of Flowers and Nymphs’ rejoices! ]
[ ‘Guardian of the Golden Field’ is happy. ]
[ ‘Librarian of Nipur’ records today’s date and time, and what you said. ]
I thought about stopping them. However, they always made a fuss about anything. They also kept watching me.
‘Oh, but watching me take a bath or changing clothes is prohibited.’
[ The ‘Queen of Flowers and Nymphs’ asks you to look after yourself. ]
[ ‘Guardian of the Golden Field’ says he won’t do it! ]
[ ‘Nipur’s librarian exhales a sigh. ]
No exceptions.
[ ‘Queen of Flowers and Nymphs’ is disappointed. ]
If I set an exception, other Gods will come out. Therefore, I have to block them altogether.
‘Well then, should I call the Duke father from now on?’
After thinking about it for a while, the conclusion was easily reached.
‘Let’s just call him Duke.’
He only accepted responsibility and duty. He wouldn’t have thought of being called father, but what if I called him father?
‘He wouldn’t be that happy.’
I cannot confidently say that I know Beatrice well. Well, it’s funny to say that I don’t know the supporting roles in the novel I wrote, but what should I do about the lack of a detailed setting?
Nevertheless, one thing is certain. It was said that Beatrice was a child who was in an orphanage and didn’t know her parents. When it comes to the power of the Duke, it’s easy to figure out Beatrice’s background if he put his mind to it.
‘Maybe, he has already figured it out.’
So, that’s why he accepted me. If it was a child who had been raised in a temple until now, he might be cautious, though Beatrice isn’t like that.
A child who has no background but has received oracles from all temples… In a way, I’m pretty useful.
“Honestly, it doesn’t matter.”
It doesn’t matter the reason why the Duke took me in, whether for his publicity or other means.
‘That’s why I purposely used the power of blessing in front of the Duke.’
It’s worth using so that I would be deemed useful to him. Although I didn’t know that I would be told not to show off my skills.
The important thing now is to grow up in a safe environment. But, what about the adults?
Well, I guess it’ll be fine since I just have to act like a child.
[ The ‘Queen of Flowers and Nymphs’ says she doesn’t know that. ]
Lea, you asked me to end the story.
[ ‘The Queen of Flowers and Nymphs’ nods. ]
There’s no way everyone would like one story, is there?’
Other than a genre, there is a taste. Even if they’re a great writer, not everyone will like their writing. There may be something that many people like and admit. Nonetheless, differences in taste are another matter.
‘Before the story, I want to live.’
Beatrice is a supporting character.
Later, when the female lead appeared, and it was revealed that she is a fake child of fate, she was kicked out.
So, did the child really live happily ever after? I don’t think so. She was like a child who worshiped and served at the temple without even realizing that she was a fake, so they would quietly try to get rid of her.
Blasphemy or deceiving God in the temple is a sensitive matter.
Especially if it’s a fake child of fate. This means that the future of Beatrice, whom I possessed, was bleak.
I was able to twist it like this because of the oracle, but it’s hard to see that it’s completely changed.
Beatrice’s past is not addressed in the novel. She was just known as a child of fate, and that she was revered in the temple.
‘Well, there was no mention that she was the Duke’s adopted daughter, so it seems that has changed.’
Even then, I should still be vigilant because I don’t know what will happen. The power to flow according to the original story. It may or may not be there, still, there’s nothing wrong with being careful.
‘Ah, it’s hard for a child to think.’
While grumbling, I opened the lid of the box on the table. Then, I shoved the icing flower-shaped cookies into my mouth.
“Tasty.”
It was a box of sweets that I had set aside to eat whenever I was hungry. It was crispy and sweet.
It’s precious time that I gained by saying I would read a children’s book by myself, so don’t waste it. The Gods also confirmed that no one was watching.
‘The Duke’s children… they must have gone to study.’
[ ‘Librarian of Nipur’ informs you that the son has gone to learn swordsmanship and the daughter to learn magic. ]
‘They are overflowing with talent.’
I could learn them from the duchy, so that doesn’t mean I have to go to the Capital to absorb what I can see and experience, right?
Well, then should I look good to the Duke, or should I just be there?
But, I’m an adopted child who suddenly came in.
Am I going to look bad…?
At that, there seems to be only one choice.
‘Let’s increase my ability.’
The only thing the duke has been informed of now is the blessing Lea has given me. I think it would be better to hide Gias’ shield rather than reveal it.
‘Hm, would this be the best for now?’
As my thoughts were organized, my mind became lighter. It’s inconvenient for a five-year-old child to think this much.
‘Still, I should think so that I could lower the risk of dying.’
This is the best way I’m going to keep this state until I can become independent.
I clenched my fists and vowed. Change the story, and I’ll have to survive. Oh, of course…
‘I should know my place, too.’
[ The constellations are clamoring for you not to do that. ]
Sometimes, it’s better to die and end the suffering than to live and suffer!
[ Please, don’t say strange logic. ]
It’s not strange.
[ Everything is for the Creator. ]
Then, tell me everything.
[ They say it is still difficult. ]
‘Ugh, I have to give up.’
Yes, it’s easy to give up…
With that in mind, I lay down on the sofa.
“Miss Beatrice, it’s snack time.”
“Wow!”
Is it already snack time?
Hmm, what kind of snack do I want to eat this time?
Silence lingered in Duke Creighton’s study.
“What is the outcome of this subjugation?”
“Destroyed an orc village. There are no orcs left alive.”
At the report, the Duke nodded lightly. The subjugation of the orc village was an annual event held every year. Looking at tons of orcs to the point of getting sick of it, he was reminded of cockroaches.
“Well done, Taonel.”
“I was just doing the right thing.”
Saying that, the wizard Taonel bowed his head.
“Duke, I have a question for you.”
“What is that?”
“It’s about the child.”
The Duke’s eyes narrowed at those words. Although he was embarrassed by that gaze, Taonel continued to speak without hesitation.
“Didn’t the oracle come down to all the temples? This is the first time in recorded history.”
“It’s something I’ve never heard of as well. So?”
“I think it’s dangerous.”
At that, he was silent. Perhaps the duke’s attitude had strengthened him, Taonel continued his remarks.
“The choice was made by the child, but still the temple will keep an eye on the Duke of Creighton, and so will the Imperial Family.”
And so, the Duke lightly tapped the desk with his index finger and remained silent.
“If you make a mistake, they can justify it as conspiring treason. If not, the child may cause an accident and blame you.”
“However, if we reject the child of fate, we will be branded as a devil worshiper.”
With that said, Taonel took a moment to catch his breath and ended the conversation.
“Duke, the situation is rather complicated right now because it is difficult to let go of the child or accept it.”
Having sworn allegiance to the Duke of Creighton, he had to give advice. In Taonel’s eyes, the situation was dangerous. Even with wealth and force, there is a possibility that the Duke would be in danger.
“The child… How about sending her to the temple? If that happens, the Imperial Family and the temple will not keep an eye on you.”
That was the best option Taonel had in mind.
