The lethargy she was feeling now was not the usual fatigue. It was lethargy that gradually accumulated in her. It was lethargy that was biting at her every day.
She felt nothing towards Ji Xinxin’s words. Ever since she was young, her belief was that her husband was the center of her life.
No matter how Shi Che treated her, she could only suffer through it, bear it, and accept it.
The only exception was that she could not feel anything towards Shi Che’s words.
For three years, she had built up a great amount of caution and trepidation. Her every statement and every action had to go through tough thorough thinking before it could be spoken and executed.
She had always felt that what she did was sufficient, but Shi Che would never be satisfied no matter what.
Sometimes, she really did not know what else she could have done.
But she did learn something during these three years– how to keep her grievances out of sight of everyone, even herself.
Ling Chuxia sat on the sofa for a long while. Finally, she stood up and slowly walked upstairs to her room.
–
As Shi Che reached home, Ling Chuxia had just come out of the shower. She walked out of the bathroom and immediately noticed Shi Che’s tall frame entering the bedroom.
Ling Chuxia froze in her steps. Just in the afternoon, he had angrily kicked her out of the car and left her stranded on that deserted road before leaving.
She had thought that he would be away for a few months as he had always done when he was angry. Alas, he had come back home.
Perhaps she should be glad that he was back because that meant that she could accomplish her mission of bearing his child. But maybe she had not completely gotten over her shock at Shi Che’s rage earlier, for a chill went down her spine once she saw him. Her heart raced so quickly that she was unable to move for a while and did not go forward to serve Shi Che as she usually would.
Shi Che too treated her as if she was transparent. He walked in and took off his clothes nonchalantly. Somehow, a button got stuck on his shirt and he frowned in frustration. His fingers forcefully pulled at the button and it was flicked mercilessly to the ground.
The button produced a crisp sound upon impact with the wooden floor. The noise jolted Ling Chuxia as her shoulders trembled uncontrollably. She lifted her head slightly to glance at Shi Che.
Shi Che’s handsome face carried a grim expression. His eyebrows were knitted tightly. His thin lips were compressed tightly. He radiated a dreary aura that would keep anyone away without a second thought.
If she could, she would keep herself away from him, as she felt a hint of hot-headedness lurking under his appearance of calm. She was most fearful of his hot-headedness.
It was telling that he was still angry at her from the afternoon’s incident. Approaching him right now would be asking for trouble. But she could not do otherwise.
