Chapter 41: Never Did He Care When She Cried (11)
Shi Che’s eyes turned lifeless. He curled his lips and could not even indulge in self-deprecation. He swallowed his saliva, leaving a taste in his mouth more unpleasant than bitter medicine.
Shi Che quickly turned his head away to avoid seeing Ling Chuxia in her sorry state. At the same time, he happened to see the box of ECP placed atop the bedside cabinet.
It was a box that he was most familiar with.
Ling Chuxia forced herself to maintain her standing position. She planned to wait on Shi Che till he slept on the bed so she too could lie down to rest. But Shi Che stayed at his spot. He neither spoke nor moved, and she could only quietly stand as he did.
She lifted her head slightly and noticed Shi Che looking at the box placed on the cabinet. Thinking that Shi Che was worried that she had not taken the ECP, she quickly clarified in a soft voice. “I have taken the pills.”
Her short statement caused Shi Che’s eyebrows to knit furiously. His gaze went back on her. His stare was so piercing and gloomy that she dared not look back at him.
Shi Che continued staring at Ling Chuxia for a while, before suddenly letting out a laugh.
It was a laugh that confused Ling Chuxia. It was a laugh that caused her to freeze up for no reason. She did not find her statement amusing, nor did she dare to ask him what he was laughing at. She inadvertently huddled up and was overwhelmed with trepidation. She felt Shi Che starting to move and walk towards her. She wanted to retreat, but her feet were ostensibly attached to the ground and could not move.
Shi Che stood in front of her and stretched out his hand. He forcefully gripped her chin and forced her to lift her head, looking at Shi Che straight in the eye.
His eyes seemed like an abyss and she could clearly see the lurking waves of emotion hidden beneath. Her heart raced quickly as if a hammer had struck its chambers.
Shi Che retained his usual poker face. His handsome face was seemingly covered with a biting frost. He stared at her murderously and his voice was equally deadly. “You’ve taken the pills?”
Ling Chuxia nodded her head awkwardly and replied arduously. “Ye… Yes.”
Shi Che suddenly curled his thin lips and sniggered at her twice. He spoke harshly and callously. “Ling Chuxia, you’re so much more value for money than raising a dog. Not bad, the Shi Family did not raise you for nothing.”
After speaking, his hand flicked off her chin violently as he walked past her. He opened the closet and took out his clothes. He started dressing up and left without turning his head when he was done.
Ling Chuxia stood frozen at her spot. When Shi Che had finally left the house, her legs gave way as she slumped on the floor.
For so many years, Shi Che had made numerous nasty remarks to her. Remarks that she thought she was long used to and did not bother her anymore. Alas, she had overestimated herself.
She did not know why she still angered him despite keeping her place and obeying him. She did not know what she had to do to satisfy him.
Her body compressed into a shrimp-like posture as her hands wrapped around herself. She wept silently as her head was buried in her knees.
