Chapter 42: Never Did He Care When She Cried (12)
Shi Che went downstairs and made a phone call to Mr. Zhu. His mobile phone rang incessantly for quite some time before Mr. Zhu answered respectfully, “Young Master?”
“Come over with the car!” Shi Che was curt before he hung up the phone.
The car arrived after a good five to six minutes. Shi Che was already in a foul mood. He was more irritated with Mr. Zhu’s slowness.
Mr. Zhu got out of the car, took a glance at Shi Che’s facial expression and he cried miserably. He offered his apologies profusely, “I’m sorry, Young Master, I’m late.”
Shi Che frowned and threw an impatient look at Mr. Zhu. His chauffeur was obviously roused from his sleep. His shirt had missed a few buttons and he appeared unkempt. His hair was in a mess.
Mr. Zhu had realized he was looking untidy and offered a sheepish smile. As he tucked in his shirt, he explained, “Young Master, I’m sorry. My wife’s fault. I had told her that I would be sleeping late however, she insisted that I retire early for the night. She reckoned that Young Master shan’t be needing the car. Before I left, she nagged me again, and now look… I’m so embarrassed.”
After hearing Mr. Zhu’s rattling on, he was piqued, “What did Mrs. Zhu say to you when you left the house?”
Taken aback by Shi Che’s sudden curiosity, Mr. Zhu paused before he looked at Shi Che. He saw that his master was rather serious and had wanted to know what his wife had said to him.
Though he was puzzled, he replied earnestly and honestly, “What can she say? It’s the same nagging. Like it’s already late, what’s the reason for going out? Be careful while driving on the road. Come back early, and so on. You know the old lady likes nagging. When she was young she wasn’t like this. As she grew older, her nagging intensified. Every day I have a headache because of her repetitive nagging.”
Mr. Zhu’s words, though perceived as grouses, had in fact contained no complaining component. He was in blissful happiness instead.
As Shi Che watched Mr. Zhu’s wry smile and the happiness on his forehead, his deep pain surfaced.
Mr. and Mrs. Zhu were husband and wife. Every time Mr. Zhu went out at night, Mrs. Zhu would nag him. Despite Mr. Zhu’s irritation, his heart was filled with pleasure.
However, he…
He and Ling Chuxia were also a couple. No matter how late he returned home, how late he left the house, where he had been, what he had done, she had never queried. Her attitude towards him was always obliging, there was a lack of care and concern.
He lowered his eyelids in an attempt to disguise his pain. He offered as a matter-of-fact, “You and Mrs. Zhu are a loving couple.”
“Not at all. Young Master and Young Mistress are truly compatible with good looks and talents, it’s a match made in heaven…” Mr. Zhu offered habitually. Half-way through his sentence, he suddenly discovered his mistake and shut up immediately.
