Chapter 43: Never Did He Care When She Cried (13)
Mr. Zhu observed as Shi Che quietly stood on his spot. A beam of light shone down diagonally on him and appeared to form a halo around him. It made him seem distant as though he were segregated from everyone else and emitted an air of loneliness.
In Mr. Zhu’s view, the Young Master was born into an affluent family and was well-mannered. He held a prestigious position at a young age and married the beautiful and virtuous Young Mistress. Both his career and love life were flourishing, and he had everything that a great life entailed. One would expect that he would be blissful and happy with his successful life.
But in these years, he had rarely seen the Young Master smile, nor had he seen him in good spirits. On the contrary, he had become more aloof and indifferent.
It would still make some sense if Shi Che was unhappy because he was not fond of the Young Mistress and their marriage.
But it did not feel like the case that the Young Master was dissatisfied with his marriage. The couple was actually quite an intimate and loving pair when they first got married and in the months thereafter.
Back then, the Young Master had just taken over the company. There was much work for him to familiarize with, sort out, and adapt to. Piles of documents took up a huge part of his time every day, leaving him with little to spare.
Despite that, no matter how late the Young Master finished working, he would always rush home to accompany the Young Mistress. It may be just for a few short hours, but he would still be home nonetheless. Even then, when his time was stretched, he was able to finish his work early, squeezing some time out to plan their honeymoon.
Back then, they were the epitome of a match made in Heaven. Their attractive appearances strongly complemented each other when they stood beside each other.
Mr. Zhu remembered that period as the time when the Young Master smiled the most and was the happiest.
How then, did the couple suddenly become like this?
Shi Che had much more free time now than before. But he would stay in the office to work overtime, let Mr. Zhu drive him around outside, or entertain clients at the bar. Whatever he did, he just did not want to go home.
Every time he went on a business trip, the Young Master would browse the local shops to look for petite handicrafts that the Young Mistress adored. He would pick one as a gift for her and get someone to wrap it up meticulously before bringing it back. But every time, he did not give it to the intended recipient.
Every time, he saw affection in Shi Che’s eyes as he stared at Ling Chuxia. But every time she turned towards him, he would treat her coldly and hurl nasty comments.
Mr. Zhu did not understand how the once flourishing couple came to this.
Everything had been a bed of roses before the honeymoon.
It had been quite a while and Mr. Zhu’s memory was murky. But it seemed as if their relationship suddenly went south after their honeymoon. Then it gradually evolved into what it was now.
Mr. Zhu was not too sure of the reason but felt that it was a pity.
Shi Che had ostensibly not heard Mr. Zhu. He walked towards the car and opened the back passenger door and got in. He said nonchalantly, “Drive the car.”
