Chapter 60: Never Did He Care When She Cried (30)
When Shi Che arrived home, it was nearly twelve midnight. The night was dark and gloomy. Their mansion was situated in the suburbs and it appeared extremely quiet and peaceful.
The car was parked at the main entrance for quite some time. Shi Che sat inside, motionless. One could have easily heard a pin drop inside the vehicle.
Mr. Chu decided to take the matter into his own hands. At this instance, Shi Che had not indicated his next movement, hence he held his tongue and remained silent. He held his breath and waited for Shi Che’s actions.
Shi Che raised his dark eyes and glanced towards the house. It was in pitch darkness, not a single light was turned on. He glided his eyes to look into the master bedroom’s window on the second story. The room was dark.
She Che stared intently at the dark windows. Suddenly he hooked up his lips and managed a sneer.
He wondered how other couples’ married lives were. However, he was certain that no one’s wife would treat their husbands in such a way that he had been treated.
Since their marriage, she had never asked him how late he would come home. She had never called to ask after him. She did not even bother to… leave a light on for him.
This was their matrimonial home, however to him, it was… more like a hotel? Wrong. It was incomparable to a hotel. He had visited hotels more than he came home.
Shi Che took out his mobile phone unconsciously. He had always carried two phones with him. One was for business, where he had countless missed calls and messages. The other one was a personal phone dedicated to Ling Chuxia and their household to call him on. However, the latter phone had always been quiet and empty. No call, no message.
He had last left home fifteen days and eight hours ago. She had not been bothered to call him nor send him a message.
Shi Che grabbed the mobile phone tightly until veins surfaced on the back of his hand. He closed his eyes.

For some unknown reasons, Ling Chuxia had been unable to fall asleep. She had retired to bed at ten o’clock and had been tossing and turning till now. She was not sleepy at all, unlike her routine days when she could feel asleep within half an hour.
She made another turn and discovered her discomfort. She sat up and turned on the bedside lamp. She lifted the quilt off her, wore her slippers, and decided to go downstairs for a glass of warm milk to drive her insomnia away.
The house was utterly quiet. As Ling Chuxia walked down the stairs, she could hear the sound her slipper made on the wooden floor. She had been a timid girl and was extremely frightened by the dark. She had this fear that there was a monster lurking in the dark somewhere which would pounce on her and gobble her up.
However, since her marriage three years ago, her timidness had given way to nonchalance. Despite being home alone within such a huge mansion, she was no longer fearful.
