I Stayed Because of You (2)
He wanted to refuse, but he knew that neither he nor Ding Yi had any power over this place, and so he could only helplessly stare daggers at the thick-skinned Jiang Mocheng.
Ding Yi could also see that Mu Yueshi was unhappy, but she could only awkwardly say: “Actually, look on the bright side. You can build a better relationship with Mocheng this way…”
“I don’t want to build a better relationship with him,” retorted Mu Yueshi gloomily.
His introverted and sensitive personality wasn’t easy to change. Ding Yi sighed, and tried to patiently counsel him: “It’s not good to seclude yourself at your age. You should meet more people. Mocheng is a familiar face, so it’s better than someone you don’t know isn’t it? And you’re brothers in learning, so you should get along.”
Mu Yueshi wanted to say something, but in the end he pursed his lips and held back his words.
Ding Yi hurriedly cleared out the neighboring room. She had already done a lot during the day, so it was quickly available for Jiang Mocheng to live in.
Mu Yueshi’s eyes were downcast as his face remained expressionless.
Ding Yi reminded Jiang Mocheng: “Yueshi is wounded, so you should try to care for him. Please don’t fight like in the past, alright?”
Jiang Mocheng was instantly filled with humility, as he answered with solemn certainty: “Of course not, rest your heart big sis.”
Ding Yi nodded, and offered a few more words before returning to her own room.
But as soon as Ding Yi left the room, the two returned to their state of mutual hatred.
“Don’t look at me like that, the Master was the one who arranged for this to be this way,” said Jiang Mocheng coolly.
Mu Yueshi returned a cold glare: “Why?”
“I don’t know,” said Jiang Mocheng as he flopped onto his bamboo bedding, “the Master has his reasons.”
And an instant later, he snorted: “And isn’t my presence perfect? There won’t be any scandalous rumors now, so you should thank me instead. Isn’t that great?”
Dark tides formed in Mu Yueshi’s eyes.
At this point there was no choice but to accept things the way they are. Freedom on Mount Yuling was much more limited, and he had no choice but to endure it.
Ding Yi obtained a job at Lu Liheng’s recommendation and officially moved in.
But because she had a background, the job she got must be both inconspicuous and practical.
And so she became the janitor, all thousand nine hundred ninety-nine stone steps were her responsibility, and she hated it.
She had to rub her aching muscles each night with ointment as she groaned in pain when she started out. The training method that Master Lu gave her was a pain to perform.
But thankfully, her body was really sturdy. It didn’t matter whether it was gusting or raining, she never got sick.
Instead, she utilized her honest (she was too scared to loaf), and friendly (chatterbox) nature, and gradually acquired many friends in the lower stratum of the Mount Yuling social classes…
Her ability to make fun of suffering was extraordinary, and even the most boring days as a janitor couldn’t exhaust her motivation to make money.
The Mount Yuling cultivators couldn’t leave of their own accord, there were restrictions on every aspect of their lives, and so it sucked all the life out of life at Mount Yuling. Even the pretty young ladies all had resting bitch faces from how dull everything was.
Was life even worth living like this?
Of course not, and so the depressed Ding Yi found a distinct opportunity for business and information with these young flowers!
She was only a janitor, so she had very little restrictions regarding leaving the premises, so she would sneak out and do a bit of trading. As long as she kept things low-key, the chances of there being a problem were low.
In the beginning Ding Yi sold knickknacks to the younger girls, then it evolved into fashionable jewelry, then… an elder brother with much seniority bought an entire basket full of hair decorations for one of his younger sisters in learning, earning her love. After she facilitated the formation of a loving couple, her business was booming.
She had become the number one peddler of Mount Yuling.
One day, when Ding Yi had finished sweeping half of the stone steps, a few young ladies from up the mountains came to inquire about cosmetics from the Eight Treasures Chamber…
Ding Yi greeted them familiarly, and from their conversations, she learned that the Xuanqing Hidden Realm was about to open. The Hidden Realm was located in the Yuling Mountains, and so cultivators from all over the world would come to adventure.
“It doesn’t matter how well you dress, when other people come to our Mount Yuling, they’ll only notice the two divinely beautiful elder brothers of the Tiandao sect. Or is it… that you’re dressing up for that elder brother Mu that you’re always talking about?” one of the girls joked.
The girl who was looking through the jewelry blushed: “Of, of course not! Don’t say random things like that!”
Ding Yi revealed an old aunty smile. She knew that they were talking about Mu Yueshi and Jiang Mocheng.
As was described in the original work, after the two young men became Lu Liheng’s disciples, they had become rising stars, shining especially bright amongst their peers. Not only were their abilities great, their looks were also unparalleled, causing many young maidens to swoon at the sight of them.
How is it? The boss I raised is just so perfect, extraordinary, handsome, so…
Then, she heard the other girl snort: “You don’t have a chance anymore. I heard that elder brother Mu saved a real beauty yesterday, and he even brought her home with him.”
Ding Yi’s smile froze.
