The Empire’s Only Princess - Chapter 36
Chapter 36
“That, that, just what do you mean by that!”
Murmurs spread through the banquet hall at the cries of the envoy of the Principality of Karkun. Even in the midst of that, Erdos’ aloof voice was clear.
“For the crime of daring to try to assassinate the princess, you b*st@rds’ cheap necks wouldn’t be enough.”
Whenever Erdos, who slowly raised his body from the throne, took a step, Karkun’s envoys made a gasping sound.
“Ju, just for what reason are you doing this! This will cause a huge diplomatic problem – Keogh!”
Erdos pressed down the man’s head with his shoes.
“A few days ago, a flower called Nadan came into our Rosiane’s bedroom.”
He had a calm and gentle voice as if he was talking about daily life.
Those who did not know what Nadan was, waited for his next words with a confused expression, but the faces of the envoys from the Principality of Karkun who knew it’s identity, were drained of its color.
“You, do you know what Nadan is?”
“I, I don’t know…!”
“Me, me too.”
As Erdos’ gaze scanned the envoys of the Principality of Karkun one after another, they simply denied that they did not know.
“You don’t know? How strange. How can you all say that you don’t know as if it fits perfectly…… Nadan’s origin is the Principality of Karkun.”
[tn— he’s saying that them denying it is as if it matches w/ the fact that Nadan is from their country]
“Even if the country of origin is the Principality of Karkun, there’s no reason for us to send such poisonous plant!”
“Hm….”
With a slow hand, Erdos stroked his chin. At the appearance that looked contemplative, the envoy’s face brightened slightly.
However, as soon as the next words were spoken, that expression collapsed horribly.
“You, just a while ago, didn’t you say that you didn’t know what Nadan is?”
“Th, that, It was just in case I’d be framed…. D-do you have p-proof that we sent it?!”
When Erdos signalled with his eyes, one of Zion’s members opened the balcony door.
“This is the Nadan that was on the ship you b*st@rds came with.”
Outside, were heaps of piled up white flowers that could be easily seen in the Principality of Karkun, a maritime country. Zion’s elite had searched the ship they had boarded.
‘Everything was definitely burned, but there were some left…..?’
The fact that they had brought plenty in case anything withered or got damaged while moving, caused something bad to happen.
Karkun’s envoys stared outside with their eyes *open. Leav also watched the situation closely. That’s definitely the flower in my sister’s room.
[tn— remember they were pushed onto the floor so the word used to describe their eyes here means “looking up till the whites of the eyes are seen” i can’t really translate it directly so I’ll just say it here]
“Furthermore.”
“…?”
“Let him in.”
At Erdos’ words, the servant opened the door.
The person who appeared there was Mill, one of the gardeners of the Imperial Palace. He was also the one who received the Nadan.
‘I definitely heard he was dead?!’
The representative of the delegation of the Principality of Karkun ordered the disposal of the witness. But before they could do so, he heard that the Emperor of Esteria was one step faster and executed him.
Why is the man who is supposed to be dead here…….. Erdos indifferently looked down on the body that began to tremble.
“That, That’s him. He is no doubt the man who gave me the poison!”
Mill exclaimed in indignation. ‘He was trying to assassinate our cute princess!’ Mill aggressively snorted.
Erdos put his weight on his foot and pressed the envoy with stronger force.
‘Poison. I guess you met the high priest because of this matter.’
No wonder it seemed like my sister wanted to hide something. Leav clicked his tongue quietly.
“If you want more evidence than this, I will personally bring the heads of the dozens of assassins I’ve cut down in the meantime in front of you.”
The envoy looked up at him with bloodshot eyes. An incomparable elegant smile smoothly formed around his mouth.
“Do you know what words I hate the most?”
When Erdos, who suddenly threw a puzzling question, held out his right hand, Lotte de Kentas, the vice-captain of Zion, pulled out the sword he was wearing from his waist and handed it to him.
Gasp, there were gulps for air everywhere.
The only people who weren’t nervous here were the members of the Imperial Family of Esteria.
Nanuk was thinking about something, with his arms folded, his eyes half lowered, and he didn’t budge, Eryte’s eyes twinkled as if he were watching an exciting spectacle, Bernique grinded his teeth in cold anger and Leav regretted his ignorance.
However, although each person responded differently, there was one thing similar; the anger that seemed to overflow towards those who tried to harm Rosiane.
Now, the silence in the air was so thick that the sound of swallowing saliva sounded like thunder in the space.
Karkun’s envoy, trampled under his feet, fumbled with trembling hands and held Erdos’ pants.
“Sa, save……”
A miserable voice came out. As if seeing a bug wriggle, Erdos said with cold eyes.
“I don’t like the saying ‘an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth’. Because I don’t understand it.”
At a glance, it was a voice that felt so light. Leaving behind the questioning gazes, Erdos easily swung the sword in his hand.
Truthfully, it was a life that would die out with just a *gesture, but Erdos deliberately chose to show blood for visual stimulation. The envoy’s neck rolled on the floor alone with a clear and smooth sound.
[tn— *meaning that Erdos could’ve easily killed him with his hands, w/o any blood.]
How elegant his dexterity was, there was no drop of blood on his white pants. Instead, the floor was getting soaked with sticky blood as if it were announcing a dramatic situation.
A cold glare appeared in his eyes as he lifted his head and looked at each of the foreign envoys.
[tn— glare as in the kind of light]
“If you dare to aim for my eyes, then it makes sense for you to be determined to give up your life. Don’t you think so?”
[tn— meaning that if you dare to aim for his eyes, be determined to give up your life]
These words were addressed to the Principality of Karkun, who impertinently touched Esteria, but it was also similar to a warning to the other countries that were still looking at the situation.
“Lock them all up.”
“I accept your order.”
Lotte, who wiped off the sword that Erdos handed over to him, put it in it’s sheath, prostrated and answered.
* * *
[tn— Rosie’s pov here]
The Princess’ Palace underwent a large-scale reshuffling.
Everything was replaced except for my nanny, two dedicated maids, and the employees in the kitchen.
Jean, who brought the flowers, left without even saying goodbye to me, saying she had to go down to her hometown.
Instead, a new maid came in. Her name is Lora.
I don’t know because they didn’t tell the exact reason why this happened, but I think it was to filter out the helpers who allowed numerous assassins to come and go.
[tn— helpers as in the spies that Erdos mentioned before.]
“Rosiane, to think something like that happened…. How could I not know. I’m a failure as your twin.”
After Bernique, who muttered in a gloomy voice, Eryte shouted vigorously.
“This older brother, with his own hands, cut off an assassin’s ne— I mean took care of it!”
“Sister, it’s all because I’m lacking. Now, I will do my best to study more thoroughly so that no matter what you ask, I can find out everything.”
“Rosiane, how about you sleep in my palace from now on.”
And the Princes made a fuss. I think they heard all about my assassination attempt.
“By the way, who did those things?”
When I asked because I didn’t know the culprit, Eryte said with an unusual frown.
“The Principality of Karkun.”
Eryte, who spat out the name as if chewing on it, quickly said his next words.
“Do you think you can mess with us when you look like our Empire’s cheap sh*t? I’d feel a lot better just putting the heads of those b*st@rds in XX and turn it into XX. Wait, No. That’s not enough. First, the nails……..”
“Eryte.”
Nanuk quietly called out his name to stop his list of torture methods which was gradually becoming more detailed.
‘Oh’—Eryte said and looked at me. I smiled as if telling him not to worry and said to him.
“Rather than put the head in XX and turn it into XX, wouldn’t it be better to pull out their XX then next is the XXX and then feed it to XX?”
“Ahh!”
As if he had heard something he couldn’t bear to hear, Eryte covered his face only poking his eyes out and screamed.
Bernique, who saw that sight, looked back at me with a pale face. Then, he immediately began to raise his voice towards Eryte.
“Because of you, Rosiane is using such unpleasant words!”
The argument in the form of Eryte vs Nanuk, Bernique, and Leav quickly turned into a physical fight. I sighed and turned my head.
And made eye contact with Sir Boyd, who had the same expression as me.
Since he has always been next to my dad, it’s probably not the first time he’s seen this kind of funny sight, but I didn’t think about his bitter expression.
Well, that was the same for me too.
[tn— sorry i didn’t really get this part, but I think she’s talking about their expressions]
After I lightly smiled at him, he opened his mouth to mediate between those who were fighting nonstop.
* * *
Huh. Dad’s face appeared and disappeared repeatedly in my blinking eyes.
Is it a dream, after scrutinizing for a while, I realized that this was reality.
As of yesterday, all the schedules for the founding festival were over, it seemed that he came to my room and slept. I think It’s almost my first time seeing him sleeping properly like this.
I took this opportunity to take a closer look at my dad’s face and poked his cheek for no reason.
Then his long eyelashes trembled, and his eyelids lifted slowly and soon revealed a brilliant jewel.
“Good Morning.”
When I smiled and said hello as if whispering, my dad pulled me closer and hugged me.
“Yes, Rosiane, did you sleep well?”
“Yes. I slept well.”
I was so tired that I fell asleep so deeply to the point that I didn’t even know my dad came. As I hugged my dad tightly, he paused for a moment and said in a low voice.
“Rosiane. Dad will be away for a while because something came up, will you be fine?”
You’ll be away? How come. I tried to calm my slightly anxious heart and asked.
“How long will you be away?”
“About a few months…?
It was in a tone that he also didn’t know.
“Is it something important?”
Now that I have properly become aware of my dad’s existence, I was a little saddened that he would be away for such a long time.
“Yes, it’s something important.”
“…… I understand, please have a safe trip.”
However, just because I didn’t like it, I couldn’t prevent the emperor of a country from working. I spoke bravely on purpose to not to show my sadness.
And that afternoon, Erdos and Nanuk left the Imperial City.
