The Fox King - Chapter 56
Chapter 56: Delicious Blood
Halfway through the night, Zhe Huo awoke suddenly from a fitful sleep. In the darkness, she saw a bushy white tail, emanating a ghostly blue light, sweeping over her body in long, lazy strokes. Then she saw Luo Qinghan’s pointed little fox ears.
Her whole body came awake with a start. She moved to push him off, but he seemed to notice this. With a flick of his ears, he extended his sharp, curved claws to catch ahold of her. She could feel her hair rising from fright. “Qinghan? Qinghan, didn’t you take the antidote? Why are you still thirsting for my blood?”
Qinghan hugged his arms around her head. “Zhe Huo, I’m so hungry…”
He was already draining her blood again.
Terrified, Zhe Huo wailed, “If you’re hungry, I’ll get you something to eat! Stop biting me!”
She made another attempt to push him off, but his claws extended even further—an obvious threat against her—but the way Qinghan looked like a little lost lamb, pitiable and adorable, it mainly felt like the defensive reaction of a scared little child. “I don’t want to eat anything else,” he declared sulkily.
Zhe Huo felt like she might throw up. “Well, you can’t keep drinking my blood…”
The boy’s ears wiggled happily. “Your blood is delicious, Zhe Huo.”
“Qinghan, please calm down a little. What if you end up drinking all of my blood? That would kill me…”
Qinghan’s tail continued to wag. “I won’t let you die.” Then, he was looking up at her with a miserable expression. “Zhe Huo, I’m just suffering the after-effects of that poison…”
“After-effects?” Zhe Huo echoed in dismay. “What… what should we do?”
“Just let me drink your blood for the next seven days,” Qinghan pleaded wretchedly. “By then, the last of these effects will have worn off completely.”
“No way! Seven days? I’ll be a bloodless husk by then!” As much as she liked Qinghan, she wasn’t thrilled at the thought of dying for him. The world held endless wonders, and there were still so many things she wanted to do, places she wanted to see. She couldn’t allow Qinghan to drain her to death just like that!
Qinghan watched her morosely, his eyes ringed with red. “I just need a little bit, every day,” he said quietly.
Zhe Huo wanted to refuse, but seeing Qinghan on the verge of tears, she just couldn’t bring herself to do so. She chewed on her lip, then muttered, “First, let go of me.”
The boy was silent for a while, but then he reluctantly loosened his grip.
“Up. Get off of me.” Zhe Huo was thankful that it was dark—otherwise she wouldn’t be able to handle him at all right then.
