The Garrison of Warcraft - Chapter 52
Chapter 52: Stormwind City Never Falls!
“F*ck!”
Sean glared at Old Gryan, and had the urge to kill him.
That said, Sean was in Old Gryan’s territory at the moment, and there were plenty of soldiers around. Besides, although Old Gryan was not armored and did not have the Truesilver Champion with him, he was at least a powerful Mid Rank Paladin, perhaps even a High Rank Paladin. Given the close-range, Sean knew that he would not stand a chance if he planted a Duel banner, so he gave up on that thought.
In any case, he had plenty of chances in the future, so he could definitely make Old Gryan bow before him while singing the song ‘Conquer’!
Sean convinced himself with the “Ah Q mentality”[1], then started getting to the point.
Old Gryan widened his eyes upon hearing what Sean had to say. “What? What did you say? King Varian was split into two? The Lady of the Black Dragonflight caused chaos in Stormwind City? Even Regent Bolvar Fordragon was fooled? F*ck me, is that true?”
Sean rolled his eyes. “It’s fake.”
Old Gryan quickly smiled apologetically. “Even if I trust nobody, I trust you, Sean. You’re right, you’re right, I believe what you said, okay? Oh no, oh no, this is terrible. If something happens to Stormwind City, everything will be doomed!”
Sean sneered. “Old Gryan, are you that timid? Why are you afraid because of such a small matter?”
“A small matter?!”
OId Gryan yelled, “Did you say that it’s a small matter? Do you know what it means? Among the Seven Human Kingdoms, Lordaeron is doomed, Kul’ Tiras only has Lady Jaina, Gilneas is walled off from the rest of the world, Dalaran fell to ruins, Alterac only has a bunch of weak-willed nobles left, and Stromgarde left the Alliance, so Stormwind City is the Humans’ only pillar! If Stormwind City is done for, the Humans are doomed!”
Once Old Gryan was done venting, Sean responded quietly, “I didn’t think that you’re so miserable. Did you forget the slogan? Stormwind City never falls! Trust me, Stormwind City won’t be doomed, neither will the Humans. I’ll head to the city to look for Prince Anduin, I’ll help Bolvar Fordragon regain his consciousness, I’ll seek assistance from Lady Jaina in Theramore, I’ll find the missing Marshal Reginald Windsor, I’ll help King Varian return, I’ll eliminate Onyxia, I’ll…”
Sean took a deep breath before declaring, “I’ll save Stormwind City!”
He had never felt so righteous and heroic. It was as though he had a white halo on his head, and his body was releasing pure light.
At that moment, he was not a Mage, and not a Commander, but a…
Psychic!
In reality, Sean was not a psychic, though the person in front of him was a psychic… Oh no, a Paladin who had a halo on his head, and whose body could release light at any time.
Therefore, Old Gryan rolled his eyes without taking Sean’s declaration seriously.
Nonetheless, what Sean mentioned was actually possible. Old Gryan replied after pondering for a while, “Sean, if you’re determined to do this, you must be careful. I’ll supervise your Mage Tower’s construction personally, and send some men to keep watch over Saldean’s Farm, but I can’t follow you to Stormwind City.”
Sean chuckled. “Of course, you can’t be going to Stormwind City. You have to go against the Defias Brotherhood, and Westfall can be short of anyone but you. You don’t have to worry about Saldean’s Farm because I’ll station some Harvest Wardens, as well as Princess the domesticated boar. With them around, the farm’s safety is assured. I just hope that when I return, you won’t steal my share of Jangolode Mine.”
Old Gryan patted Sean’s shoulder as he said seriously, “You must return in one piece, or your share will really become mine!”
Sean laughed out loud. “Don’t worry, I’m here to travel Azeroth, so I won’t be leaving so soon!”
Following that, Sean turned around to get onto his boar, then waved at Old Gryan before squeezing the boar’s belly with his legs. With that, the domesticated pig ran toward Saldean’s Farm.
Behind him, Old Gryan did a standard Paladin salute at Sean while mumbling, “Stormwind City never falls. Sean, you must stay alive!”
Needless to say, Sean was not going to bid farewell so soon. He decided to tread on muddy water because he knew very well the changes that would take place in the next few years. Sean was aware that King Varian was fated not to die, Onyxia would certainly face her death, and Stormwind City would stand tall.
Instead of adding brilliance to perfection, it was better to offer help in times of need. By becoming friends with King Varian during his worst, as well as Prince Anduin, who was still young and naive, Sean would certainly have endless benefits during his future life in Stormwind City.
Sean was not a businessman who disregarded legal ethics to increase profits. It was true that he knew the benefits that he would likely receive in the future… But he was truly fond of King Varian and Prince Anduin, and he really despised the Lady of the Black Dragonflight!
Hence, he was willing to give this a shot. As long as he was careful, nothing dangerous would happen.
These past few days, the Golem Factory had produced a few Harvest Wardens. Sean left them and his domesticated boar for Old Saldean, and claimed that he was going to the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest to learn from Sir Theocritus for a long time. He did not tell Old Saldean the truth.
Sean was afraid that Old Saldean would be worried.
After getting everything done, Sean set out to Stormwind City with Vanessa and Rick.
They traveled on two brown horses, one for Rick, the other one for Sean and Vanessa.
Being in Sean’s arms, Vanessa felt a sense of peace for the first time. Her father, Edwin VanCleef was completely blinded by hatred, so he neither took good care of nor loved his daughter as he should. Vanessa had always been very independent and never relied on anyone.
Sean was the first person who made her feel like she could rely on someone.
From Saldean’s Farm, they passed by Furlbrow’s Pumpkin Farm, the Jansen Stead, and Westbrook Garrison before staying a night at Goldshire. The next morning, they arrived at Stormwind City.
Standing in front of Stormwind City’s gate, they looked up at the majestic walls, as well as the solid gate. Beyond the gate stood the statues of five famous heroes, which was quite an awe-inspiring view.
Yes. Perhaps Stormwind City seemed small and simple when compared to the skyscrapers of the thousand or ten thousand cities on Earth, but it was the quaintness that gave Sean a strong historical sense and a long-lasting heroic spirit.
When Rick looked at Stormwind City, the city which he had not returned for years, the city which was rebuilt by him and his partners, he took a deep breath, and inhaled deeply again.
Everything remained the same, but the people had changed.
Vanessa had seen Stormwind City when she was young, but had no memories of it. While leaning against Sean, she said to herself, ‘This is father’s proudest accomplishment, it’s also the accomplishment that he wishes to destroy.’
After remaining silent for a long time, Sean suddenly laughed. “Stormwind City, I’m here!”
