The Great Trump Card - Chapter 79
Chapter 79 Mr. Hu’s Warning!
Lin Huai had guessed correctly. Both Liu Meiqi and Wu Chunli returned to the dormitory and talked to Gao Mengchao regarding Lin Huai’s plan. After listening to it, Gao Mengchao had a complex expression on her face. She let out a long sigh at last and said, “This Lin Huai is a much more terrifying figure than I expected.”
Wu Chunli asked, “Big Sister, what is the success rate of this plan?”
“Around 90%? It would even be a 100% success rate if nothing goes wrong,” Gao Mengchao continued. “This guy’s temperament is a little scary, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure that the entire underworld of Tongcheng City would have a significant shift if he were to step into that world. We should just follow what he suggested and lend him a hand!”
Wu Chunli questioned again, “Big Sister, ain’t this whole plan way too risky?”
“Risk is everywhere and everything we do has a risk attached to it,” Gao Mengchao said. “He is right. I personally think that it would be much better for him to win this battle instead of Zhou Minghu. Moreover, Zhou Minghu wouldn’t do anything to us even if Lin Huai lost the battle.”
Wu Chunli and Liu Meiqi exchanged a glance and instantly realised that Lin Huai was right. Gao Mengchao possessed some kind of trump card, and therefore no matter what she decided to do, Zhou Minghu would still restrain himself. But since Gao Mengchao didn’t mention it, they wouldn’t ask her about that trump card.
Gao Mengchao suddenly gazed toward Liu Meiqi, and said with a smile, “You’ll have to figure out ways to court Lin Huai if he succeeds this time. It’s not a big deal for a girl to court a guy, and I have faith in you.”
A sweet feeling swelled up in Liu Meiqi, but she asked, “What if he fails?”
“Since he has declared to the public that he would fight against Zhou Minghu, the fallen will definitely not be able to rise again. I would advise you to let go of your love for him if he loses this time.” She gazed at Liu Meiqi’s reluctant expression, smiled and continued, “Anyway, I still commend your judgment on guys. In this sea of people, the choices you’ve made can still be considered sensible, and whether he wins or loses this time around, Lin Huai is still worthy of respect.”
Liu Meiqi bit her lips as she said, “I wouldn’t give up even if he loses this time. I would still support him through thick and thin.”
Gao Mengchao stared at Liu Meiqi in surprise and let out a soft sigh. She had already managed to see through a person like Liu Meiqi. Everyone else viewed Liu Meiqi as a playgirl but only Gao Mengchao knew that a girl like Liu Meiqi would be crazy for love once she set her sights on someone. Hence, she wouldn’t waste the effort to stop her and she could only hope that Lin Huai would win this battle. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if they really got together once Lin Huai had attained victory, for the big boss in this school would still be her ally once she graduated.
That night, gang leaders from the sports major all gathered in the school canteen for a celebratory feast. They had reserved the entire school canteen for this celebration. Other than the gang leaders from the sports major, gang leaders from other majors had also been invited to join them.
Zhou Minghu stood up and raised his glass. He scanned the area, and his fervent gaze sent shivers down the spines of those newly joined gang leaders.
“Everyone, thank you for giving me enough respect to be here tonight.“
All of them smiled obsequiously as they responded, “Mr. Hu, it is really fortunate for us to be invited.”
“He’s right, Mr. Hu. We will be your followers from now on.”
Zhou Minghu simply hummed a sound of affirmation. He glanced at the computer science gang leaders who used to be under Lin Huai and announced, “I know that some of you here used to be a follower of Lin Huai and Wu Shanhe, but I don’t mind at all. Since all of you have decided to be my follower, I will treat you guys as my brothers. As for those who betray me, they will certainly come to a bad end! Zhang Hongdi, bring him in.”
Zhang Hongdi rose and walked out of the canteen with steady steps. Everyone was very confused as they couldn’t comprehend Zhou Minghu’s intention, but a strange and uneasy atmosphere had begun to spread throughout the canteen.
Finally, the door was flung open and a trembling figure followed Zhang Hongdi into the canteen. He was shaking and a flustered expression could be seen on his face; he was sweating profusely out of nervousness.
Someone had recognised him once he set foot in the canteen. This person used to be Chen Gang’s underling and he was considered as one of Chen Gang’s capable followers. He was called Li Ergou, and of course, Li Ergou was just a nickname and no one remembered what his real name was.
Li Ergou’s shuddering figure walked up to Zhou Minghu. He smiled obsequiously as he uttered, “Mr. Hu, were you looking for me?”
“Yes,” Zhou Minghu forced a smile. “I’m going to treat you to dinner!”
Zhang Hongdi sat down next to Zhou Minghu and looked at the situation with an indifferent attitude.
Li Ergou smiled in an ingratiating manner and responded, “You flatter me, Mr. Hu. How can an unimportant person like me deserve to have dinner with you?”
“Haha… Why? Are you afraid?” Zhou Minghu guffawed, but that eerie sight made everyone shudder. Zhou Minghu’s raucous laughter sounded like it came from hell, and it was filled with viciousness.
Li Ergou gulped as his sweat ran down like raindrops, yet he didn’t dare to wipe them away. His voice was shaking, “I-I’m afraid.”
“But I think you are pretty courageous! It seems like Wu Shanhe, that dunderhead, is not completely brainless after all. Do you really think I wouldn’t realise that you’ve been bribed by Wu Shanhe to be an undercover under Chen Gang?”
Li Ergou’s legs felt like jelly and he almost dropped to his knees. He managed to hold himself together, but his breathing had become shallow and rapid. With a trembling voice, he said, “I-I did not.”
“Stop acting in front of me,” Zhou Minghu said in a deep tone. “I’ve schemed and specifically asked Chen Gang to hide it from you, otherwise Wu Shanhe might not have been fooled. Do you really think I know nothing about how you’ve given away our information and betrayed us? I asked Chen Gang to deliberately provide you some false information and Wu Shanhe must have contacted you by phone to make sure that it wasn’t a trap before rushing over. He’s not completely brainless even if he is a reckless person. What a pity. I’ve allowed you to earn some merits by his side in the past, yet I’ve used you this time round to lay a trap for him. Ergou, you’ve indeed made a big contribution!”
Everyone only came to realise what was happening at this moment. Li Ergou had actually been working for Wu Shanhe long before this and had been his informant on the inside. Everyone looked at Li Ergou and couldn’t help but pity him.
It was clear to Li Ergou that Zhou Minghu knew everything. He dropped to his knees in an instant, and kowtowed while he shouted, “I’ve done wrong, Mr. Hu. Please, just see me as a nonentity and let me go. I’ll transfer to another school. What do you think about this? Or I can even drop out of school…”
“That’s right. You need to drop out of school,” Zhou Minghu gave a malicious smirk. “But before that, we still have to settle this matter properly!”
Zhou Minghu grabbed a beer bottle on the dining table and smashed it against Li Ergou’s head immediately. Li Ergou’s body twitched from the sudden action. The bottle broke and a bloody wound can be seen on his head. Meanwhile, Zhou Minghu was still not satisfied. He arose and picked up a chair before smashing it on Li Ergou’s head again and again. His face twisted malevolently as he shouted, “How dare you, you bastard? How dare you betray me? How dare you betray me? How dare you betray me? There will never be a good ending for those who betray me. They will only end up like this!”
Zhou Minghu smashed the chair on his head continuously, to the extent that Li Ergou faded out of consciousness and fainted on the floor. His head was a bloody mess and his wounds were bleeding profusely.
Zhou Minghu only cooled down after Li Ergou had fainted. He then placed the chair back on the ground and sat on it.
Everyone was left dumbfounded, and some people nearly urinated out of sheer terror. Zhou Minghu emanated a kind of dreadful aura, which was different from Li Kandao. Li Kandao gave off the vibe of a powerful figure, whereas Zhou Minghu would emanate a merciless vibe of a menacing villain. He just sat there casually, but no one dared to move an inch or even speak a word, as though the devil himself was sitting in front of them and could take their life away at any moment.
Zhou Minghu beckoned with a wave of his hand. “Throw him out and call for an ambulance to take him away!”
Two underlings carried the unconscious Li Ergou out of the canteen immediately.
Zhou Minghu moved his gaze to the gang leaders from the computer science major as well as the business major, and they felt a terrifying chill from his gaze. Finally, they stood up one after another and raised their glasses in the air. Their hands and voices were shaking, but they persisted on. “Mr. Hu, you will be our Big Boss from today onward. We only recognise you as our Big Boss in the school!”
“Very well!” Zhou Minghu finally smiled. He raised his glass and downed the alcohol together with them.
A gang leader’s hand, who was from the business major, was trembling so much that half of the alcohol spilled out of the glass, and he was only able to drink the other half.
Zhou Minghu set down the glass and announced with a smile, “All of you are my brothers from today onward. As for those people under you, gather all of them at the sports field tomorrow. I have the Five Red Canes serving under me. You and your people will be assigned to each of my Red Canes respectively.”
The gang leaders’ faces changed once they heard those words. It was still acceptable if it was like before, as they still had control over their people and some areas under their territory. But according to what Zhou Minghu had said, it seemed like Zhou Minghu wanted a complete seizure of power. The next thing he would do was to rearrange all the people under them, including themselves, and they would just be the head of a small group under the control of those Red Canes such as Zhang Hongdi.
There was a very huge difference between being Zhou Minghu’s underling and being one of the Five Red Cane’s underling.
However, they still had to accept what was instructed as much as they hated it. It was crystal clear that the show that Zhou Minghu put on just now had two purposes. One was to punish his underling, while another one was to set an example to them—how they would end up if they refused to obey Zhou Minghu.
These people exchanged a few glances. All of them fell silent and chose to accept the harsh reality.
Zhou Minghu smiled. “Alright. Let’s just eat and drink to our hearts’ content. Don’t forget about tomorrow’s matter. I don’t wish to see any of you refusing to give me respect on such an important event tomorrow. I’m pretty sure that all of you have witnessed how you would end up if you anger me…”
At once, the gang leaders present all lowered their heads.
