The Great Trump Card - Chapter 87
Chapter 87 Captain Wang’s Warning
Seeing Lin Huai’s condescending look, the principal seemed a little uncomfortable as he demanded, “Lin Huai, what is the meaning of this? You’ve caused a public disturbance, so I must punish you according to the campus rules—”
“What campus rules?” Lin Huai interrupted. “Mr. Principal, I always thought you had no idea what those are? How were you appointed principal in the first place?”
“You!” The principal pointed at Lin Huai with a shaking finger. “Not even Zhou Minghu was this arrogant to me. You… You’re expelled.”
Lin Huai glanced at Zhou Minghu on the ground, who’d long since taken his last breath, and said nonchalantly, “True, he’d never disrespect you like this. But he’s also dead.”
“You little…”
“Didn’t you say I was expelled?” Lin Huai turned around to look at Pu Chengji and the others. “You hear that? The principal has expelled me. Whatever shall I do?”
Pu Chengji spoke up, “Principal, you’ll have to expel me too. I voluntarily drop out.”
“I’m dropping out too,” Wu Jun chimed in.
“Me too. I’m dropping out, there’s no point in continuing my studies here,” Wu Mengjie yelled out.
As if the call to drop out was contagious, everyone in the computer science major started yelling that they’d drop out too; eventually, even those from other majors joined in. In just a few moments, more than a thousand students on the field were calling out in unison, “I’m dropping out! I’m dropping out! I’m dropping out!”
With his hands clasped behind his back, Lin Huai smiled at the principal and the disciplinary teacher; both of whom had turned a deep shade of crimson out of anger and were shaking hard. Even so, the sight before them also struck a deep fear in them; they suddenly realized that for the first time ever, a person whom they could not control had appeared in this school. Zhou Minghu had been powerful before, but had always been respectful toward the school administration, but what Lin Huai was doing was outright rebellion.
Seeing the deafening cries of the students, the administrators couldn’t help but feel afraid; if all of them really left, the college would be ruined, or worse, make national headlines for having thousands of students drop out at once. There had never been such a college before in the whole of China.
Lin Huai continued to stare at the principal and the disciplinary teacher. By the time the principal cleared his throat to address the students, the police cars had arrived at the scene, “Everybody, stay calm. Even if we all saw that Lin Huai had acted in self-defense, we must allow the police to conduct a full investigation before he is declared innocent. If the authorities say that he did nothing wrong, then as the leaders of this school, we will not trouble him further.”
Lin Huai smiled, knowing that this was an act of surrender by the administration. Normally, he could have taken his leave from the whole situation, since Wei Sihai had already relieved him of his duties and the school’s matters had been resolved. However, he also knew that if he backed out now, it wouldn’t take long for the school to go back to the way it was.
So Lin Huai needed time to address the root of the problem, and ensure that the school would function smoothly even without his presence; only then could he go back in peace.
A squad of policemen showed up, and so did paramedics from an ambulance, who then did a quick check on Zhou Minghu and shook their heads.
As it turned out, the commanding officer was the same Captain Wang who’d arrested Lin Huai the other day. Captain Wang shot Lin Huai an indecipherable expression and asked, “You killed him?”
“Out of self-defense.” Lin Huai shrugged. “There are so many people here who witnessed it.”
“Hmm.” Captain Wang merely said, “I will take all their testimonies, but you will have to come with us to the station.”
Wei Qimian walked over and chimed in, “I’m coming too.”
Wei Qimian’s two bodyguards behind her quickly refrained her. “I don’t think that’s appropriate, Miss.”
“That’s right, Miss.”
Wei Qimian ignored the two of them and only looked at Captain Wang.
Captain Wang looked at Wei Qimian, sounding astonished as he asked, “Who are you?”
Wei Qimian replied, “Wei Qimian, daughter of Wei Sihai!”
That was when everyone looked toward Wei Qimian in shock, and the whole school started gossiping with one another.
“Wei Sihai? Isn’t that our city’s most famous entrepreneur?”
“Not just that, Wei Sihai is the chairman of our school’s Board of Directors and a key investor as well. Not even the principal is as powerful as he is, because Wei Sihai can replace him with whoever he wants.”
“My god, Wei Qimian from our school is Wei Sihai’s daughter.”
“Yeah, that’s so unexpected. She was being way too modest, wasn’t she?”
Never mind those who’ve never met Wei Qimian, even Wei Qimian’s roommates were saying, “No way.”
“Really?”
“Mianmian said it, so it must be true. I can’t believe we’ve shared a dorm with the heiress of the Wei family for so long.”
Lin Huai looked into Wei Qimian’s eyes with shock, trying desperately to figure out her reasoning in revealing her own identity. Why did she do this?
Before long, Lin Huai had his answer. As he gently took Wei Qimian’s smooth, petite hand, he smiled and turned to Captain Wang and requested, “Captain Wang, please allow Miss Wei to come with me.”
“Uh… okay, then.” Captain Wang didn’t dare disobey Miss Wei’s request, even if he was shocked to the core. This school might have been one of the Wei family’s investments, but the school’s reputation was notorious in the whole of Tongcheng City. Miss Wei herself was rumoured to be the personification of beauty and wisdom, to the point of being nicknamed ‘Princess Wei’, so how was she enrolled in a school like this?
Lin Huai and Wei Qimian exchanged smiles, feeling like their relationship had progressed to a whole new level because of their mutual understanding. Lin Huai could see that Wei Qimian had announced her identity because she planned to face the future with him, and Wei Qimian could see that she herself was part of why Lin Huai was making such an effort for the school.
As the two held hands and entered the police car—with Wei Qimian acting as if a hooligan holding her hand was completely natural—an officer looked to Captain Wang and asked, “Captain Wang, don’t we need to handcuff him?”
Captain Wang shook his head and instructed, “Get someone to record the witness testimonials from the principal and everyone else present.”
Captain Wang went over to check Zhou Minghu’s cause of death, and his eyes filled with shock. After that, there were photos taken for evidence and Zhou Minghu’s body was carried away.
When Captain Wang got in the police car, Lin Huai and Wei Qimian were sitting together and there were only two other officers besides Captain Wang himself. Captain Wang looked at Lin Huai with total surprise and asked, “How did you kill him just now?”
Lin Huai quickly explained what just happened, before finally adding, “If it hadn’t been for my quick reflexes, I’d have a bullet through me right now.”
Captain Wang nodded, then said sagely, “Your athleticism far surpasses that of a normal student.”
Lin Huai smiled, “Of course it does. If I had been a normal student, I’d be dead.”
Captain Wang sighed. “I don’t think anyone could have done that, not even me. Our men are still there at the scene investigating and with the testimonials, you should be free to go by tonight if everything you said matches up.”
Lin Huai said, “That’s great. To be fair, Zhou Minghu was up to no good to begin with. Consider this an eradicated threat to the public.”
“Eradicating such threats is the job of a policeman, not a vigilante who doles out punishment as he sees fit. But like what you said, you acted in self-defense and did save plenty of people. Otherwise, heaven knows what would have happened with that radical, armed crazy man.” Captain Wang grimaced. “And to be honest, in all my years on the force, I’ve never met someone like you. At least, not a student who could stir up such a big commotion.”
“Yeah, that’s because you haven’t met me yet. If you did, you’d have known long ago.”
Captain Wang smiled; he had no idea what Lin Huai’s relationship with Wan Zitao was, but the more important thing was his bond with Miss Wei, so he didn’t dare offend anyone.
Soon, the police car reached the station and Lin Huai was brought in for interrogation, followed by Wei Qimian’s testimonials. After more waiting, some officers walked in and reported to Captain Wang, who nodded and told Lin Huai, “My men have investigated everything. You’re indeed innocent since the bullet was already fired at the time. Thank goodness it didn’t hit anyone, otherwise, I can’t imagine what would have happened if it did. Alright, you’re free to go anytime.”
Lin Huai asked in shock, “But this is considered a good deed, right? Don’t I get a medal of honor or something?”
Captain Wang scoffed, “Just stay out of trouble. I’ve had to mobilise the squad twice over the past two days alone because of you, and each time was more serious than the last. First, it was some injuries, and now, a murder.” He sighed.
“You say that,” Lin Huai touched his nose, “like I’m a curse.”
Wei Qimian covered her mouth as she chuckled at the side. “Alright, don’t get cocky. Let’s just go.”
Lin Huai grunted in agreement, then stood up and as if he’d abruptly remembered something. “Oh, Captain Wang, can you give me your number in case I need to ask you for help the next time?”
Captain Wang put on a resigned expression, but he didn’t feel like refusing him. So, he gave Lin Huai his number to save on his phone, who then waved his hand and bid, “I’ll see you again, Captain Wang.”
“It’s better if you don’t…”
Lin Huai and Wei Qimian walked out the station together, and they were just about to leave when they heard footsteps catching up to them. When Lin Huai turned around, he saw Captain Wang was there with a serious look on his face as he told them, “Lin Huai, you may have united all the groups in Yulan College, but I must warn you to keep a low profile. Do call me if anything happens, because I don’t want to see any casualties again.”
Lin Huai gave a startled expression. “What do you mean?”
Something flashed across Captain Wang’s eyes as he lowered his voice and said, “I mean, now you’ve truly gotten yourself in trouble.”
