The Great Trump Card - Chapter 90
Chapter 90 Threatened by The Thunder God
Wei Qimian blushed as she said shyly, “Who allowed you to court me.”
Lin Huai stood up suddenly and walked toward the classroom podium. He then picked up a piece of chalk from the table and gazed down at the other students; he had become the Big Boss of the entire school now, not to mention this was just in his class. Everyone would feel his intense aura emanating even if he was just casually standing there.
Lin Huai put on a solemn face and, with a serious tone, announced, “I would like to share some knowledge before the teacher comes in. So, the context is…”
Lin Huai turned around and, with a chalk in his hand, he wrote down a few words on the blackboard, ‘Lin Huai loves Wei Qimian’.
Wei Qimian was left dumbfounded at the situation; she had never imagined such a scene before. Lin Huai was acting more domineering than those bossy presidents, and the effect of this simple declaration of love was far stronger and impactful than those flower bouquets and love letters. It wouldn’t take long for this news to spread throughout the school.
The other girls’ eyes lit up in admiration, obviously envious as to why they were not the ones being confessed to instead. Even Song Tingting whispered to her roommate, Zhou Yuanyuan, “Ah, I would even be willing to reduce my lifespan if I could get such a boyfriend.”
Zhou Yuanyuan chuckled as she shook her head and replied, “You won’t be able to find one.”
Song Tingting snorted as she said with dissatisfaction, “You are looking down on me. I’m not as beautiful as Mianmian, but it doesn’t mean that I won’t be able to find a boyfriend with good qualities.”
Zhou Yuanyuan couldn’t help but laugh. “You’ve twisted my words. I didn’t say that you are not pretty. But you do realise it would be nearly impossible to find another Lin Huai in this world?”
Song Tingting lifted her head and gazed toward Lin Huai after hearing Zhou Yuanyuan’s words. Lin Huai was in high spirits, and although the weather that day wasn’t too clear, it was as though Lin Huai himself was emanating rays of sunshine.
That sight had somehow tugged on Song Tingting’s heartstrings. She lamented, “You’re right. There’s only one Lin Huai in this world.”
Lin Huai stepped down from the classroom podium and returned to his seat. Wei Qimian flushed as she said in a cute manner, “Definitely a rogue.”
“You’ve misunderstood me.” Lin Huai complained, “Everything I said was sincere. You’re saying this and that, but you are inwardly happy, aren’t you?”
Wei Qimian’s mind was in chaos. My God, how did he always guess everything right?
Lin Huai guffawed as he said, “I just know. You don’t have to hide it from me.”
Wei Qimian simply lay on the table and buried her head in her arms. She said shyly, “I’d rather not talk to you.”
Lin Huai’s heart leaped from her reaction; this was only the beginning of his attempts to court Wei Qimian.
After the morning class, a large group of people followed behind Lin Huai and walked into the canteen together. The scene attracted everyone’s attention as the current Lin Huai’s status had surpassed even Zhou Minghu, the Yulan College’s former Big Boss. Li Huai fully deserved the title of being the leader of the school.
As soon as they noticed that Lin Huai had entered the canteen, those people who were waiting in line for food made way for him, but Lin Huai merely said, “I’ve mentioned this before, we will still adhere to the school rules. I will queue at the back of the line instead.”
Those people felt uneasy when they saw that Li Huai actually didn’t mind queueing at the back of the line. They had never heard of a school Big Boss having to wait in line for his meal, and that was why it was impossible for them to not feel nervous queuing in front of Lin Huai. However, on the other hand, the students started to have more positive expectations, and even fantasies, toward the school’s future. Perhaps this school was really undergoing a significant shift.
A trivial matter like Lin Huai buying a meal in the canteen spread throughout the school in an instant, just like how the news of Lin Huai declaring his love for Wei Qimian had spread as well. Gao Mengchao let out a soft sigh once she heard about the news. She then told the Five Golden Flowers serving under her, “Lin Huai is actually more formidable compared to Zhou Minghu, he truly has the makings of a great ambitious man.”
Liu Meiqi who was standing at the side interrupted, “No! He is a hero instead!”
Gao Mengchao shook her head slightly as she said, “Who can really differentiate between a hero and an ambitious yet ruthless person?”
For the upcoming days, Lin Huai had assigned Dao Zi, Chu Wenxing, Wu Jun and Wu Mengjie as the Four Red Canes serving under him. Among the Four Red Canes, Wu Jun and Wu Mengjie were the earliest to follow Lin Huai’s lead, while Dao Zi and Chu Wenxing were the strongest in terms of fighting ability. Needless to say, Dao Zi could intimidate the entire sports major just by himself and he even had the ability to chase Li Kandao out of the school; his strength could be considered as the strongest in Yulan College, apart from Lin Huai. Meanwhile, Chu Wenxing used to be the top Red Cane serving under Wu Shanhe, so his ability must be strong as well.
If it was only based on strength alone, there were plenty who were stronger than Wu Jun and Wu Mengjie. Strength could be cultivated, but loyalty was more important, and the others had only just begun to follow under Lin Huai, thus he didn’t dare to assign them important roles yet.
As for Pu Chengji, Lin Huai had assigned the White Paper Fan role that would act as his strategist and administrator to him.
Pu Chengji was the first person to become Lin Huai’s follower in school, and most importantly he had all the qualifications to become a White Paper Fan.
In other words, the forces under Lin Huai could already be considered formidable; there were four Red Canes, and a White Paper Fan, and he only lacked a Straw Sandal. However, Straw Sandals and White Paper Fans could only be encountered by luck and not sought out. Being able to encounter a capable and competent White Paper Fan was already a stroke of luck, it was best not to be too hopeful about finding someone to serve as the Straw Sandal.
The over two thousand underlings in school had been distributed across the forces. As for the people under Gao Mengchao, Lin Huai did not touch a single one of them, and merely let Gao Mengchao restrain them herself. While in school, the rules must be adhered to in order to coexist peacefully, otherwise those who went against the rules would have to be punished.
Before this, Gao Mengchao would already have gone over the edge. But now, even Lin Huai refused to cut the queue in the canteen. Now that he was leading by example, Gao Mengchao had no other rebukes. This was also a result of Lin Huai’s shrewdness; he could lead by example and keep those gang leaders in check.
In addition to these arrangements, Lin Huai was also rehearsing with Wei Qimian every day, in order to prepare for the upcoming school gala.
It was Friday after school, and it was about time for the weekend again. After school ended, Wei Qimian was escorted by her bodyguards back home. Lin Huai also intended to get a ride to Li Qianqian’s place to unwind and relax, but out of nowhere, a group of thugs appeared and blocked his path. These thugs were all buffed up and beefy looking, carrying weapons and emanating a malicious killing intent. At a glance, one could tell these were thugs who were used to bloodshed.
Among all of them, the toughest looking one was a man wearing a black singlet and thick eyebrows. Though he had thick eyebrows and big eyes, his killing intent was unbelievably intense, and could even be compared to Zhou Minghu.
The man scrutinised Lin Huai and asked, “Are you Lin Huai?”
“Yes, I am.” Lin Huai had figured out that even if this person didn’t come here to look for trouble, he certainly had no good intentions. This matter might have some relations with the gang Zhou Minghu had been in contact with outside of school, the Thunder Gang.
As Lin Huai expected, the man grunted and replied, “I’m Gong Zhenglong from the Thunder Gang. Our Big Boss wants to meet you.”
“He wants to see me?” Lin Huai grinned as he spoke, “When there is time after this, I will personally hold a banquet and invite Thunder God by then.”
“Hah, you are not too bad. You actually know that our Big Boss is Thunder God, huh?” Gong Zhenglong’s gaze sharpened as he continued, “You have to come with us now.”
“I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it today. I still have someone waiting for me at home.” It was obvious that Lin Huai didn’t want to follow him at this point in time. Who knew whether the other party had set up a Hongmen Banquet [1] for him? Even for those who were skilled and bold, they would not rush into dangerous situations. Li Qianqian was right when she said that Yulan College was nothing compared to the actual gangsters from the underworld. Even Zhou Minghu’s ability could not be compared with Thunder God for even the tiniest bit.
Just as Lin Huai was preparing to leave, a gun appeared out of nowhere and was placed against his waist. All the other thugs had also whisked out a dagger from their pockets.
Lin Huai’s expression darkened instantly as he didn’t expect this man to possess a gun, but it wasn’t surprising either, because even Zhou Minghu had one with him. Honestly, Lin Huai was curious about how a mere school Big Boss ended up with a handgun. Huaxia was strict about the bearing of firearms after all. Even though it was possible, it was still very difficult to obtain firearms. However, everything was crystal clear once he came across the information about Thunder God—the handgun must have been provided to Zhou Minghu by Thunder God.
Judging from the current situation, no matter how skilled or powerful Lin Huai was, it would still be impossible to resist bullets at such a close range. It seemed like he had to go today no matter what.
Gong Zhenglong spoke in a serious tone, “Just come with me, our Big Boss, Thunder God had prepared a banquet just for you.”
Lin Huai took a deep breath and a smile soon appeared on his face. He answered, “Since Thunder God has good intentions, how could I simply refuse? Let’s go together then.”
Lin Huai was surrounded by them as they walked toward a van at the opposite of the road, to head to the Hongmen Banquet.
[1] The term ‘Hongmen Banquet’ is typically used to refer to an invitation to an event that is veiled with malicious intent.
