[Willpower check… successful. You have passed the Willpower check. Although you have your doubts about the scenario, your immense willpower forced you into action.]
When Yu Yi returned to the game and opened his eyes, the KP’s Willpower check appeared. It was quite strange. In these scenarios, the KP would usually only notify the players of the results of the dice roll and not tell the players the number of points. It wasn’t like a hidden dice either. If it were a hidden dice, all you could hear was the rattle of the dice.
There was something squirming in the darkness. The stench of blood and rot permeated the air, which caused Yu Yi to almost vomit. He held his lunch back. The insane punishment time was over as Yu Yi had 61 points of sanity value remaining.
There was no light here. One couldn’t even see his hands. It was true darkness with no light at all. It was hot and damp, as though he was within the organs of some massive monster. There was even a peculiar slight breeze. Where was he? Shouldn’t he be in the clock tower?
He reached out and touched the ground where he was laying. It was soft to the touch and was covered by some sort of slime. With the air as foul as it was, he couldn’t even tell if he was touching blood or some other liquid. This wasn’t a silent space, Sometimes, shuffling sounds emerged from the silence.
“It’s time for my personal performance.”
Although he didn’t know where exactly this was, there was no way that this was the clock tower. He was dragged by those formless tentacles to this strange place. It was either a place where people died or a breeding ground for monsters.
After patting himself down, Yu Yi took the torch that he bought to explore the old church. His pistol was still there too, which was loaded with ammunition. He had no idea where the Tai Sword went. After cutting the tentacle that grabbed Huahua, he was knocked out by the psychological attack. The Tai Sword probably fell from his grip then. Hmmm… what a tricky situation.
Should I play an Inspect first? No. At these places, it was best not too. If he passed his Inspection and ended up with a tentacle monster just before him that hadn’t noticed his presence, he would definitely die, especially after losing 5 points of sanity value.
He felt his way forward until he ran into a corner. He blocked his hands with his clothes and turned on his phone, which was still in his shirt pocket.
All of a sudden, the KP’s dice began to rattle.
[. rd = 76. Slightly successful Luck check.]
Whew… That was a close one. It was good that the rules dictated that a slight failure would still be considered success. Although the results weren’t the most awesome, it was still better than failure. Perfectly averted the scenario of Little Monster.
His phone emitted a dim light. Good, there was still charge. There was one bar of signal too. Although weak, it was definitely better than nothing! With signal and charge, he just needed to find a safe place to make a call.
Relying on the dim light of his phone, Yu Yi managed to get a view of the ground. It was covered with a thin layer of blood, beneath which was chunks of flesh. No wonder it was soft to the touch… The walls were covered with flesh too. The chunks of flesh were in separate pieces, which were completely submerged in blood. Maggots grew on rotten parts of the flesh. It must have been left here for a while. However, the blood doesn’t coagulate. It was as though the flesh was constantly secreting fresh blood, which dropped onto the ground. In this sense, it looked more like a red-colored secretion than blood.
“Whew, lucky I didn’t inspect.”
If he passed an Inspection in these places, he would immediately have to go through an Inspiration SC. He might even find a corpse at some random location, which would be the most troublesome. If he saw corpses in mass numbers, there would be an SC after the Willpower check. Even if he succeeded, he would lose 1 point of sanity value.
Taking out his torchlight, he looked around him. Although darkness still surrounded him, it was as though there was no danger around him.
Time to take his chances!
Turning on the torchlight, Yu Yi lit up the dark environment. Just as he had expected, he was in a sacrificial square. Around him was a jail cell built up by chunks of flesh. Water dripped down from the ceiling. However, Yu Yi didn’t dare to look up. There was the possibility of being killed immediately as there may be monsters or bodies lurking above. If there were monsters, they would’ve attacked much earlier.
The space wasn’t small. With torchlight in hand and his pistol in another, he moved forward the only path. He was barely able to stand the stench that permeated the air.
All of a sudden, a reflective item appeared before him. Yu Yi’s body shook as he focused his vision forwards. He saw a beautiful Tai Sword with no blood on it whatsoever. It impaled the flesh-covered ground and gleamed beautifully under the beam of the torchlight.
My Tai Sword!
He stepped towards the Tai Sword. However, he stopped after a few steps as he heard something in the air.
“KP, I want to eavesdrop.”
[. rd = 44 Success]
The sound of movement was magnified in Yu Yi’s ears. It was the sound of slithering. Was it snakes? Or feelers?
“Conduct Inspection.”
[. rd-10 = 88 Failed]
His inspection had failed again. There was a penalty in dark environments like these, but even if there wasn’t a penalty, he wouldn’t have been able to pass the check. Never mind, he’ll just be more careful.
There was definitely something in this dark space, just that he couldn’t see them. Just as before, he was dragged here by the formless feelers.
He ambled forward, as the foreboding sense of danger increased.
The KP’s dice rattled again, but there wasn’t any prompt.
He ran forward without any hesitation as he aimed his pistol at the source of the sound.
Bang! Bang!
The two rounds cut through the air and landed on nothing. There wasn’t even the sound of a dice roll. Yu Yi’s attack had failed, as though he was shooting air.
Nearing the Tai Sword, Yu Yi reached out for it with all his might. A sense of impact followed as Yu Yi was knocked out. He landed on his back on the meat-lined walls. He looked up with difficulty.
[You lost 3 points of life value…]
The beam of light from the torch shone on the attacker. It shimmered in the light, and was somewhat formless in appearance and couldn’t be seen clearly. Therefore, there was probably no need to go through a sanity check.
He aimed his pistol at the target.
[. rd = 58 Success. Beginning check…]
The M1911 pistol in his hands spewed fire as the bullet rocketed towards the monster. However, the bullet passed right through the monster and landed on the walls behind. Yu Yi’s pupils dilated in fear. Was this a monster from another dimension? It was something that he couldn’t recognise! Damn! Was this a monster designed by the author? Was it physically immune to damage?
The opponent did not attack again, but only roamed around the Tai Sword. As long as Yu Yi kept his distance from the Tai Sword, it wouldn’t even attempt to attack. However, there was no way Yu Yi would give up the Tai Sword. It was a gift from Yuming. If he threw it away, something odd would definitely happen. As compared to enraging some unknown Outer God, Yu Yi preferred the chances of getting the Tai Sword back.
“KP, can you show his health bar?”
[Are you kidding me?]
“Ha, just kidding.”
There was a Yogg’s engraving and a cross on him. He would take his chances and see if they worked against the monster!
There were two Yogg’s engravings in total. One was with Yu Yi, while the other was on Huahua. They hadn’t been in contact, and he had no idea how Huahua, Fengye, and Juzi were doing… However, he had to get out of here first!
Clutching the cross and the engraving, Yu Yi sprinted towards the Tai Sword. His target was not to kill the unnamed monster, but to get the Tai Sword back.
