The Indescribable Diary - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Plot: There’s only a World You Do Not Know
[Plot: There’s Only a World You Do Not Know]
[Number of players: 1]
[Duration: 30 Days]
[Difficulty: The Great Old One]
[Level of Consequence: Extremely High]
[Description of Plot: You are a traveler who came from afar. To avoid certain things, you arrived at a city in New Zealand. While on holiday, you were inevitably involved in a conspiracy and disaster of a scale never seen before. Now, you expect nothing and know nothing. We look forward to you beating all odds and saving the day amidst the disaster.]
[KP’s Mercy: In this plot, the investigator does not need to go through a check for all skills learned in real life. For example, if the investigator can speak Latin, the investigator’s character card will have 1 point for Latin. The investigator will be able to speak Latin by default.]
After reading through all the prompts, Yu Yi disappeared from his villa and appeared in the hotel room.
“What the heck is KP’s Mercy? I think I’ve seen this BUFF before.”
Looking at all the information, Yu Yi began to complain to the floating orb of light around him.
[When the KP believes that the difficulty of the plot is too high for an investigator, it will reward the investigator. The effect of the reward will be random. For example, in the novice instance mission, the BUFF effect is that the investigator would have a chance to escape no matter what. For your first instance mission, the effect defined that all results of Psychology checks and Anthropology checks would be shown to you. I am not sure about your previous game, but I’ve seen that plot. It was a tough one too.]
“Is that so? I thought you shitty KPs earned commissions for tearing cards. So, how do you know my skills in real life?”
[Even if I don’t know, I can observe. Your knowledge shows itself in the details.]
“So you know that I’m homosexual in real life?”
[Did you forget that your remark denoted you as a gay man?]
What the f**k?
Yu Yi turned around and ignored the Dog KP. He began to look at the plot information closely. The game was 30 days long, which meant that it would take 30 hours in real life… Damn you, was it because you knew about my holiday tomorrow that you gave me a one-day one-night tour? And the difficulty level was at The Great Old One level… Was I crazy to play the game at The Great Old One difficulty myself?
There were seven difficulty levels in the game.
Fishmen, Shaggoth, Elder Thing, Tindalos, Star Family, The Great Old One, and the Origin of the Universe.
To put it simply, they meant Easy, Normal, Difficult, Troublesome, Dangerous, Hell, and Campione in terms of difficulty levels.
This meant to say that Yu Yi’s plot was the most dangerous one apart from the Origin of the Universe level, which was the Outer God difficulty. The duration of 30 days was enough to reveal some problems. It might even be a plot similar to Hasta Battles Cthulhu. After all, the plot was located in New Zealand… with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other.
“KP, can I go back and add a fishing boat driving skill?”
[Yes you can. Just reset yourself after tearing the card.]
“Never mind.”
He then wrapped the incredibly beautiful Tai Sword in a white bandage, before fastening it to his waist. The Tai Sword was strange. When Yu Yi wasn’t using it, everyone would ignore it subconsciously. Even metal detectors were unable to detect its presence. That was pretty convenient.
The electric knife and Lover were placed in a small waist pack, which was equipped by every player. This waist pack had the same capacity as any other ordinary waist pack, but would not be detected or noticed by NPC. So, this could be considered a small personal space.
There were 91 rounds of .45 ammunition left. In the previous game, Yu Yi had only fired the gun 9 times. However, Yu Yi didn’t know if 91 rounds were enough. He had tested the ‘Lover’ gun before. It could be set in full-auto mode. If he pulled the trigger, the bullets would be fired quite rapidly. It was almost as fast as a submachine gun, especially when at close distances. However, if it was New Zealand, he would probably be able to purchase .45 ammunition. Even if he didn’t have a gun permit or a safety certificate, he could just rob the store. It was just slightly dangerous to rob a gun shop.
To prevent any accident, Yu Yi brought all of his SCP-500-1. Although he would have to go through a Willpower check every time he takes it, it was still worthwhile.
Finally, the Bayonetta posture wasn’t activated as Yu Yi hadn’t equipped four magical guns. Strangely, Bayonetta was able to use any four guns, but Yu Yi couldn’t. Never mind, the posture card was pretty much useless. Yu Yi had no idea where to find four magical guns unless he paid for the lucky draw in-app purchase. Or, he could go to the trade market to purchase them from Infinite TPRG players. Magical, unlimited ammunition, and immune to wear and tear. Pistols with these three traits must be quite expensive.
Additionally, the watch named Timehound was never meant to be worn on the wrist. Instead, it was to be worn on the back of one’s hand. After wearing the fingerless tactical gloves, Yu Yi easily attached the Timehound to the back of his hand. Since it was a first-kill reward, it would never be destroyed, lost, or dropped. At the same time, it couldn’t be traded.
“Pay one point of magic value… and then.”
After fiddling with it for a while, Yu Yi finally figured out how to use the item.
First, he would set a time and pay one point of magic value. Then, he would clench his gloved hand gently.
In a blue flash, the scene around Yu Yi changed immediately. The beautiful hotel was gone, the tall buildings were gone, and Yu Yi was standing on a deserted land. He clenched his fist once more, and he returned to his own house. One point of magic value was used to set the timeline. Within 10 minutes, Yu Yi could jump between different points in the timeline whenever he wished. His sanity value would not be used up as well.
The Timehound could only be used to traverse the past but was unable to enter the future. So, Yu Yi could only travel along the past. The jump in time started from a unit of 100 years. For every additional 100 years, the chances of meeting Tindalos increased by 1 percent.
Yu Yi had just set the Timehound for 100 years ago and had returned to that time. Since the plot was set in the year 2055, Yu Yi had returned to 1955. World War II had just ended, as the world was plunged into the Cold War.
“Wait. If I set the timeline in America, does that mean I can meet Lovecraft himself?”
Never mind, that obviously couldn’t be done… After all, most cities in COC plots were empty.
However, wasn’t the Timehound an obvious technology item?! It probably appeared from Titanfall 2 just like the Electric Knife! Why would this be the first kill reward for Tindalos! This wasn’t magical at all!!
“KP, you found me a 20-person instance mission just because I had the Timehound, right?”
[I just want to tear your card, so I chose a high difficulty. Is there anything wrong with that?]
…You better not let me know who programmed your AI.
These were all the items that Yu Yi brought with him in this instance mission. He didn’t bring the Star Color, as it was seriously wounded and was being tormented by Yuming. He had no choice but to wait for the recovery of the Star Color. He had no use for useless platinum stars! I, Jotaro, am willing to drop in.
“Lastly, let me do a simple test.”
After thinking for a while, Yu Yi left his hotel room. He counted all of the money he had with him and decided to live outside for the first night. At the same time, he would test if the Timehound served the same purpose as the time gadget in Titanfall 2. If so, then the game was really quite interesting.
