Chapter 20: You Wanted Me Dead
Feng Ruchu knew that nothing good was going to happen as soon as she saw members of the Feng Family in the hall.
In her memories, she had been taken to the back of the woods by Wang San and then pushed off the cliff. How did it become an elopement when Feng Mo’er told the story? It was indeed true that he who has a mind to beat a dog will easily find a stick.
Feng Ruchu did not panic after figuring out what they were up to. Instead, she stared at Feng Mo’er coldly with a scornful smile on her face as if Feng Mo’er was a clown performing a show.
“You alleged that I defied a royal decree and eloped with someone in front of everyone in this hall, and you seem very certain about it. Let me ask you: did you see it with your own eyes? Or have you caught me doing it red-handed? Could it be that you had someone following me as soon as I went missing, is that why you are so certain about what happened?”
Feng Ruchu suddenly put her hand over her mouth with her eyes tearing up, and began to sob as if she had been wronged.
“If you really did have someone following me because you suspected that I had eloped, Feng Mo’er, why did you not show yourself and stop me from doing it? You knew what I was doing was wrong, and you could have brought me back and stopped all this from happening. Instead, you waited for me to be gone for seven days, and took this man who you claim is my new lover to complain to the emperor the moment I show up before you?” Feng Ruchu’s gaze became ice cold.
“It has become obvious that you wanted me dead, Mo’er.”
Everyone in the Canglan Continent knew about the retarded fiancé of the crown prince of Nanqiu Kingdom, and all the imperial officials and royal relatives were not proud of it. However, to not damage the royals’ reputation, the deposition of Feng Ruchu as the crown princess had not once been mentioned.
Who knew that Feng Ruchu had disappeared seven days ago? Both the Feng Family and the royals had sent some men to search for Feng Ruchu when she first went missing, but the search was merely procedural and went on for only three days.
After all, it was a mutual understanding that Feng Ruchu’s disappearance was beneficial to both the royals and the crown prince.
But again, to everyone’s surprise, Feng Ruchu was brought to the sacrificial ceremony alive, and her presence had even alerted the Saint.
Now, Feng Mo’er brought a man who was restrained into the palace, and Feng Zheng wouldn’t stop apologizing to the emperor about how he had not taught his daughter well and how sorry he was for the emperor and the prince.
It was merely a family affair at first and they could have ended it quietly, but the crown prince had had enough of Feng Ruchu. He had begged the emperor to put Feng Ruchu on trial, and that was why she had been called to the palace where members of the Feng Family and the imperial officials had gathered.
How the imperial officials’ blood boiled when they first heard about how the retarded crown princess had the audacity to defy the royal decree and elope with another man, and how they wished that they could burn that filthy pair.
But when they saw how wronged Feng Ruchu looked and how much her questions made sense, they started noticing the intrigue within the ‘elopement case’.
Everyone at the hall looked at Feng Zheng and Feng Mo’er curiously.
Out of embarrassment from Feng Ruchu’s questions, Feng Zheng became enraged. Completely disregarding the place he was at and the people he was with, he stormed towards Feng Ruchu and slapped her across the face soundly.
