Chapter 26: Feng Ruchu’s Confrontation
“‘First move?’ What did you mean by ‘first move’?” Wang San asked, confused.
“Who was the first to confess, to ‘express their love’?” Feng Ruchu rolled her eyes and explained impatiently.
“It was me. I confessed first, I was the first to express my love.” Not knowing what Feng Ruchu was up to, Wang San hesitated again before answering softly.
Despite being a good-for-nothing, it was an undeniable fact that Feng Ruchu was the second daughter of the Feng Family, and he was just a servant who worked for them. He understood the differences between them.
“I don’t know if I should be praising your courage or condemning your recklessness. You knew very well that I was the crown princess selected by the empress dowager, and the queen-to-be of the kingdom. However, you fell for me anyway, and actually had the audacity to express your love and talk me into leaving the house and eloping with you.” Feng Ruchu stood up straight and sighed deeply.
“Wang San, Wang San. Are you not afraid of dying? Or did you think that what you did was so trivial that it was not enough to get you and your whole family arrested for treason?”
Feng Ruchu stressed on the seriousness of Wang San’s crime. She was thin and frail, and the scar between her eyebrows stood out when she did not wear any make-up, but she looked like a queen when she stood there and boldly confronted Wang San.
“No, I did not talk you into eloping with me! You did it of your own will,” Wang San blurted out quickly, trembling in fear.
“So, you are saying that it was me who fell for you first?” Feng Ruchu raised an eyebrow and asked casually.
“Yes,” said Wang San through clenched teeth. His certainty made Feng Ruchu laugh, her eyes gleaming.
“Was I blind and stupid to have fallen for you? I was the crown princess and queen-to-be of the kingdom. I would have been offered glory and wealth, and would be worshipped by thousands of people. Are you saying that I would give all that up just to elope with you?” Feng Ruchu asked while shaking her head, then smiled at him tauntingly.
“Tell me, Wang San—do you think that you are richer than the crown prince? Do you have a nicer physique, or are you more handsome than him? Maybe you think you have more power than him, or that you are more successful than him?”
Wang San was rendered speechless by Feng Ruchu’s words. He looked up at Feng Ruchu, then turned to the crown prince. Finally, he lowered his head shamefully, his shoulders slumping.
Everyone in the hall was awakened by what Feng Ruchu said.
It was true that Feng Ruchu was a crown princess and the queen-to-be of the kingdom.
While the crown prince and the emperor had been indifferent towards Feng Ruchu, it was a fact that the royals had not broken off the engagement with her. A good-for-nothing like Feng Ruchu would have to be extremely cautious and grateful to maintain her title as the crown princess.
For someone in that position, why would Feng Ruchu want to elope with a servant?
It was complete nonsense.
“Maybe… Maybe you had a change of heart because of the crown prince’s attitude? His Highness had been cold and indifferent towards you, and that was why you fell in love with me,” Wang San suggested, trying his best to convince the audience that there had been an affair between him and Feng Ruchu.
“The crown prince had been cold and indifferent towards me? Why do I not recall that?” Feng Ruchu pretended to be confused as she stared curiously at Nangong Yan, then asked, “I recall that the crown prince would come to the chancellor’s residence every two days, and would stay for at least four to six hours. Didn’t the crown prince visit the chancellor’s residence so frequently to see me?”
Feng Ruchu threw the question back at Nangong Yan.
