Chapter 28: Who Told You To Do It?
Normally, a minister would have stood up and claimed that Wang San was sent by someone who intended to frame the crown princess, and that it was complete nonsense to say that the crown princess had eloped with him.
But this was not a normal situation. Everyone knew for a fact that Wang San was only brought there to frame Feng Ruchu so that the royals could have a valid reason to break off the engagement with her.
As such, even if everyone could tell that Feng Ruchu was indeed framed, no one dared to stand up for her.
Even Feng Zheng continued to stand there quietly with a murderous expression.
Feng Ruchu, however, was used to having no one defend her. She grabbed Wang San, who was rolling on the floor in pain, by the collar with one hand and continued her confrontation.
“You said that we eloped, so tell me – where did we go after we left the chancellor’s residence? Why was I sent to the sacrificial site with other slaves when I woke up? And why did you turn yourself in to the chancellor’s residence?”
“I… We bumped into mountain thieves. They got you, and I… I ran away knowing that I was no match for them.”
Another line that they had rehearsed. What Wang San said was in line with what Feng Fei’er had said about her being kidnapped by mountain thieves.
“You are saying that someone as weak as you could escape, and I who just defeated you was kidnapped by mountain thieves?” Feng Ruchu asked doubtfully.
“They… they outnumbered us,” Wang San tried to explain weakly.
“They let you get away even though they outnumbered us? Why would they let you go that easily when you could inform someone about what they had done?” Feng Ruchu scoffed.
Wang San opened his mouth only to find himself out of words.
Feng Ruchu jerked his collar, her gaze vicious as she asked him aggressively, “You said I was kidnapped by mountain thieves. Which mountain was this? How many thieves were there? I shall seek the emperor’s approval to send troops to destroy their guild!”
Wang San was stunned.
After all, the elopement and the mountain thieves were all fake stories. They thought it would work because Feng Ruchu could barely think or talk, and a rough plan would have been enough to convict Feng Ruchu.
None of them had expected things to turn out this way.
“Your Highness…” Wang San looked at Nangong Yan pleadingly, hoping that he would help him out, but Feng Ruchu slapped him across the face right after he spoke.
“The crown prince can’t help you, and if you don’t provide an explanation today, I’m afraid even God won’t be able to help you!
“Tell me, who told you to do it? You took me to the back of the woods and pushed me off the cliff. Now that I have returned alive, you tried to say things that are untrue to ruin my name. Why would you do so? Who are you working for?” Feng Ruchu snarled, stepping on Wang San’s shoulder and crushing it.
“No… No one…” Wang San was whimpering in pain, but he still insisted that no one had instructed him to lie.
Feng Ruchu had dealt with someone like this before, and knew that they would only confess at the very last minute. She gripped Wang San’s jaw and lifted him up like an animal carcass.
“You are persistent. I would love to see if you would still be this consistent if I pulled out your teeth and your tongue.”
