Chapter 34: Complimenting Herself
Although she did not finish her sentence, Feng Ruchu’s disdain was obvious.
Knowing what Feng Ruchu was implying, all the officers kept quiet, feeling nervous for her.
The crown prince had been a womanizer since he was fifteen, and had countless concubines as early as that. He became even more arrogant when he joined the Goldstar Clan, and respected nobody but the spiritual masters from the Holy Cloud Palace.
Feng Ruchu also stressed on “fulfilling promises, taking things seriously and being responsible for them”, which was clearly mocking the royals giving and then taking back the title of crown princess.
“Are you mocking me, Feng Ruchu?” Nangong Yan became furious when Feng Ruchu disrespected him.
“Mocking you? I wouldn’t dare! I was merely complimenting myself,” Feng Ruchu blinked and said innocently.
Nangong Yan’s expression darkened and he was completely speechless.
Even the Saint almost dropped the cup he was holding when he heard Feng Ruchu say that. It was fortunate that the Saint was strong enough to concentrate and avoided embarrassing himself.
Feng Ruchu looked around, happy to see that everyone’s eyes and mouths were wide open in shock.
“I totally agree with breaking off the engagement, Your Majesty, however, I would just like to clarify in front of everyone that it was not the royals who dethroned me, but I who requested that the engagement be called off,” said Feng Ruchu arrogantly while pointing at Nangong Yan.
“You dare to call off the engagement, Feng Ruchu? That is disrespectful!” Nangong Yan shouted in rage.
“Disrespect, deceit, being too audacious… Could you come up with something new, Your Highness?” Feng Ruchu complained with her head lowered.
“For example…” Feng Ruchu smiled elegantly as she suggested, “I have good judgement and I returned to the correct path after losing my way?”
The room fell silent once again.
Was she saying that she was blind to have fallen for the crown prince, and that she had now returned to the correct path after parting from him?
Nangong Yan pointed at Feng Ruchu furiously, his lips trembling so much that he could barely speak.
However, Feng Ruchu could not be bothered. She looked at the emperor and said quietly, “Since the crown prince and I do not see eye to eye, I agree that the engagement should be called off. I will excuse myself if you have no objections, Your Majesty.”
Uncaring of how the emperor might feel or what the officers might think, Feng Ruchu turned to leave after speaking. Her green silk dress flowed beautifully as she turned and walked determinedly out of the hall.
Call off the engagement? Fine—but she would be the one to do it.
The sun had set by the time Feng Ruchu left the palace.
The ball of fluff that was tied around her waist transformed into an adorable little maid standing beside her.
“Where do we go now? Should we return to Jiuchong Palace?” Little Zhu asked.
“Do you know which jungle the palace is in? Could you teleport us there? Or do you have a navigation system that could lead us there?” Feng Ruchu demanded. The mighty Saint had actually sat there and watched without doing anything when that despicable old man attacked her with a hidden weapon!
Accomplice! Conspirator!
“The Cloud Palace is not in a jungle, it is a holy palace on Cloud Mountain!” Little Zhu exclaimed indignantly, her hair standing up like the fur of an angry cat.
