Chapter 37: Cunning Little Fox
Feng Ruchu smiled triumphantly then turned to Mo Qing. She was in such a good mood that she was grinning from ear to ear. “Let’s make a deal—when the time comes, we can ask Ling Bai to open a portal. That would save me a lot of effort from traveling over land and water.”
‘You,’ Mo Qing thought wearily, ‘When did I ever offer to guide you?’
His thoughts were interrupted by Feng Ruchu, who smiled cheekily and said, “Don’t worry about me, Your Grace; I’m going home, not heading to the execution grounds. My father and siblings will take good care of me and protect me wholeheartedly. They won’t even let me lose a single strand of hair! I will soon come back to Jiuchong Palace, safe and sound.”
Mo Qing was speechless.
That cunning little fox was faking it under the pretense of seeking his guidance! She was clearly exploiting his power to oppress Feng Zheng, but was still so confident about it.
Feng Zheng’s expression darkened even more, but he was forced to bow in agreement. “His Grace can rest assured that I will return Feng Ruchu unharmed.”
With that assurance, Feng Ruchu was even more content. She stretched exaggeratedly, then declared, “I’m starving. Let’s go home and have something to eat!”
…
As soon as the Feng family left, Ling Bai appeared beside Mo Qing.
He stared at the carriage that gradually disappeared from sight, seething. Ling Bai was so angry that he felt like he might burst into flames. “That girl is too wild and rude! How dare she ask me to open a portal just for her? Does she think that opening a portal doesn’t require spiritual energy? And she even dared to ask for your advice! We should just kill her; I can devour that tiny body of hers easily.”
“Devour her?” Mo Qing asked vaguely.
“That’s right, I’ll eat that scrawny girl. I’ll ingest her entire body, bones and all!” Ling Bai snarled furiously.
Mo Qing narrowed his eyes and sighed. “Ling Bai, Cloud Mountain experienced some sort of tremor recently.”
Ling Bai blinked, confused. What did the Saint mean?
Mo Qing explained further, “I’m thinking that maybe it’s time for you to lose some weight.”
Ling Bai was speechless at this point, so Mo Qing continued, “So, starting from today onwards, why don’t you become a vegetarian for a hundred years?”
Ling Bai’s face turned pale.
Ve- Vegetarian?
Ling Bai wanted to scream. He was a carnivore… A carnivore!
The Saint was conspiring against him—this was injustice!
…
The Desolate Hall was located in the northwest part of the Feng residence. It was a place that had never been touched by sunlight, and was always damp and cold.
Fifty years ago, the hall used to be the residence of the Feng family’s slaves. One day, a fire broke out in the hall and many of them burned to death.
The Feng family then decided that the hall was too ominous, and they abandoned it.
It wasn’t until a decade ago, when Ma Gu passed away and Feng Ruchu was harmed, that the siblings were driven to Desolate Hall. From that day onwards, they had been bullied terribly.
Chilly winds constantly blew throughout the run-down wooden house.
Feng Ruchu sat on a disfigured bed board. It had been gnawed on by rats and insects, and was in a terrible condition. Feng Ruchu looked at Feng Nianchu who was unconscious and frowned.
His pulse was weak, his Dantian was destroyed, his spiritual roots were exhausted, and all five of his senses were lost.
In modern medical terminology, he was in a vegetative state or brain dead.
Who on earth could be so heartless to kill Ma Gu and harm her young children?
It couldn’t have been Feng Zheng. The two ‘children of god’ were the talk of the town back then, so he would have done everything in his power to support them. Why would he ruin his own future?
Who was the real culprit then?
That person could be an enemy of the Feng family that was worried about the family’s growing influence, or that person could even be the current Feng family’s first wife (originally Aunt Liu). She could have been jealous of Ma Gu, and intended to remove any obstacles in her path.
