Chapter 39: Big Brother Feng Ze
Feng Ruchu had picked up the porcelain bowl and was just about to throw it at the old maid when a mysterious figure in navy blue suddenly appeared in the courtyard. The person grabbed the old woman by the back of her neck, then dragged her back into the wooden house. It was Feng Ze.
“Young Master… This witch…” The old maid kneeled on the ground and blubbered pitifully.
To her shock, Feng Ze mercilessly backhanded her, then stabbed a silver needle into her forehead. The maid tried to open her mouth to speak, but her eyes suddenly rolled back in her head and she collapsed to the ground in a dead faint.
“I’ll have her smuggled out of the residence later. The silver needle will wipe her memory, so you don’t have to worry.” Feng Ze took out a silk handkerchief from his sleeve and wiped his hands clean.
Feng Ruchu was still clutching the porcelain bowl, her body in a fighting stance as she sized up the man in front of her.
Feng Ze was one of the most handsome men in Nanqiu Kingdom. His allure was very different from Nangong Yan’s fierce arrogance or Mo Qing’s cold beauty.
He had an elegant and gentle scholarly temperament. His skin was fair and soft, hinting at frailness.
Feng Ruchu was still on guard, her eyes alert as she glanced at the old lady who was passed out on the ground. “Wouldn’t it be much easier to just cut off her tongue or end her life?”
Feng Ze shook his head. “I don’t like to kill the innocent.”
Feng Ruchu was pleasantly surprised, and replied, “The Feng family is determined to have me killed, but you don’t like to kill the innocent? If Feng Mo’er were here, she would have blown up in anger and fought with you. Young Master Feng, why are you helping me?”
Feng Ze frowned disapprovingly. “Ruchu, you should address me as Big Brother.”
“Big brother? Hah!” Feng Ruchu laughed, then said sarcastically, “You mean a big brother who just stood by and watched his younger siblings being bullied, almost to the point of death, and didn’t do anything about it?”
Feng Ruchu wasn’t blaming Feng Ze. Neither the former owner of this body nor herself had ever treated him as their flesh and blood.
She just felt that he was being hypocritical.
Feng Ze was silent for a while before he casually answered, “All these years, I have been away traveling the four seas with my Spiritual Master Bodhi. I seldom come home, so regarding your affair with Nianchu…”
Without further explaining himself, Feng Ze walked towards the wooden bed. He took Nianchu’s pulse, then took out a pill and put it into Nianchu’s mouth.
Feng Ruchu lunged forward immediately. “What did you give him?”
“Relax; the elixir was given to me by my master. It can prolong one’s life,” Feng Ze explained. He added after a pause, “I’ve been weak since young. Unfortunately, I don’t have Fei’er’s talent in medicine, so I couldn’t become the apprentice of Spiritual Master Cihang. Luckily, my wood spiritual root was outstanding, and that allowed me to join the Bodhi clan.”
The Bodhi clan was able to manipulate natural vegetation. The clan was great with traps and defense, and they armed themselves with a few offensive spiritual techniques.
Feng Ze was so gifted in the wood spiritual root that he became Spiritual Master Bodhi’s chief disciple. Despite his young age, he had made some significant contributions towards Nanqiu Kingdom and was known for his outstanding achievements.
This was also one of the reasons why he was so revered despite his physical weakness.
Feng Ruchu didn’t respond, but she took Nianchu’s pulse too. Perhaps the elixir really was that amazing—his pulse, which had initially been weak, was stronger and steadier now.
