Chapter 122 Unexpected Rewards
TL: Kyous
After Little Stephen left, Leo was the only one left in front of the Vibranium pickaxe’s display. Caressing his chin, he pondered for a bit before turning around and leaving. Following the original plan, he was going to search for the museum personnel and try to buy the artifact with cash.
However, after eavesdropping on Happy’s conversation with Megan, he realized even Tony Stark’s influence and money couldn’t move the British Museum.
Thus, Leo tossed the idea of purchasing away and decided to directly “take” it in the middle of the night. Regardless, this Vibranium pickaxe was something British soldiers took from Benin. It was no psychological burden for him to “take” it away again as long as he didn’t murder anyone.
On the contrary, the museum should be thanking him. After all, if he took the Vibranium pickaxe away, then there wouldn’t be any museum heist by Erik and Ulysses. Otherwise, tons of guards and specialists would die in the future.
It was three in the afternoon, still early from the half past five closing time.
For the sake of tonight’s operation, Leo decided to use this two-hour time frame fully to map out the museum, such as the number of entrances and the location of every surveillance camera.
At 5:30 p.m., under the urging of staff and broadcast, Leo exited the British Museum with Ol’ Tom.
By chance, Tony and the beauty guide, Lila, also came out from a dessert shop while giggling with each other. Lila was even intimately holding Tony’s arm. Happy rushed towards them and shooed the crowd of onlookers away before starting an expensive race car. Holding Lila’s hand, Tony got into the car and rode away.
Who knew what they were talking about for an entire afternoon? From a couple of strangers leveling up to a sweet couple instantly.
But from the scene just now, Tony’s title as a “Lady Killer” wasn’t baseless after all. Surely they would have a wonderful night.
……
A wonderful night.
It was one thirty at midnight. Russell Square was void of people and the door of the British Museum was shut tightly.
A car was driving normally along New Oxford Street. Just as it almost reached Russell Square, it went into a deserted alley. Passing through the alley, it stopped in front of a rather lively bar.
Ol’ Tom got out of the car and headed into the bar for a drink, while Leo, who should have been in the car too, was gone.
On the British Museum’s rooftop, a black figure seamlessly blended into the shadow. It was Leo in Viper Mark II. Ever since he received Daredevil’s passive skill, “Enhanced Body Balance”, he could swing from buildings to buildings with webs as if walking normally on the ground, despite Viper Mark II not possessing flight capability. It was kind of similar to flying.
Shooting out a web, Leo was hanging with his left arm and slid down to a window on the museum’s fifth floor. His right hand shot out a couple of webbings on the glass pane. After making sure the webs had firmly stuck onto the pane, he pushed with his right hand. With a slight tremble, the entire pane broke into pieces. Since the webs were still stuck onto the pane, the broken pieces still retained their initial shape and didn’t fall off. As soon as he pushed the glass pane, he tugged the webs and gently placed the glass pane on the floor.
The reason Leo picked this window was that it was the surveillance blind spot. Consequently, he succeeded in sneaking into the museum silently. The Vibranium pickaxe was also located on the fifth floor.
Leo nimbly moved his body and swiftly traversed through several exhibition halls. Along the way, he webbed every surveillance camera. In under thirty seconds, he was standing before the display case for the Vibranium pickaxe.
Right now, he didn’t need to cover himself anymore. The moment he webbed the surveillance camera, those in the control room definitely would notice the abnormality.
Gripping his right fist, the display case was smashed. He reached his hand and grabbed the Vibranium pickaxe. Fiddling with the pickaxe, a small crack opened in Viper’s chest. Leo fitted the Vibranium pickaxe inside perfectly. He purposely designed a portable pocket for Viper Mark II just for the Vibranium.
The museum’s security department acted rather quickly. The moment they noticed the abnormalities in the fifth floor’s camera, the guards responsible for the fifth floor had already run over to check the situation.
Just as Leo finished placing the Vibranium, two guards already saw him.
“Freeze! Get on your knees, hands on the head!” The guards pointed their guns at Leo and one of them was shouting at Leo.
While the guards were shouting, Leo dashed behind a display case. The two guards lost Leo’s track and immediately requested backups, “This is the fifth floor, unknown intruder found. Armed with unknown objects. Requesting backups.”
At the very next moment, sirens began blaring in the museum. From the looks of it, the nearby London police would arrive sooner or later.
The two guards leaned against each other while vigilantly paying attention to the surrounding display case. Simultaneously, they slowly shifted towards the display case where Leo disappeared to prevent being ambushed.
Currently, if Leo wished to leave, he could leave through the path he came from. However, he still had other agendas, so he patiently waited for the guards to come closer. Then, with a shot of webs on the ceiling, he leaped above the display case and fired another shot of webs from his other hand.
Failing to expect Leo to appear above them, the guards failed to dodge and were trapped by the webs. With another shot of webs, Leo plastered the guards onto the ground before swiftly moving towards the staircase while listening to the footsteps from the lower floors.
One, two…
The footsteps were too chaotic, he couldn’t pinpoint the exact number, but there were at least ten of them.
When the ten guards arrived at the fifth floor, Leo appeared abruptly and fired two shots of webs, incapacitating two of them. The others hurriedly fired their guns, but Leo didn’t even bother to dodge the bullets. Under the guards’ despair gaze, each and every one of them was plastered onto the wall.
Moreover, Leo deliberately gave a guard some time to allow him to request more backups before firing a shot of webs at the guard.
By now, the entire British Museum was in utter mayhem. Guards downstairs were armed to teeth and gradually moved up the stairs. There was an impenetrable monster upstairs, so it was not a surprise for the guards to act as cautiously as they wished.
Seeing his objective had been achieved, Leo shattered a nearby window and slid down to the first floor with his webs.
At the moment, most of the guards were attracted to the fifth floor. Leo easily entered the first floor and found the entrance to the basement. The basement, which was also known as the British Museum’s vault, contained the remaining 99% of undisplayed artifacts which were stashed in the vault according to their categories.
Leo’s so-called other agenda was to check whether or not some other Vibranium products were stashed in the vault.
It wasn’t an issue to enter the basement as staff regularly entered to maintain and repair the artifacts. Its defense system was similar to those on the upper floors.
With a punch, Leo punctured a hole in the locked down and opened it.
Thwip! Thwip! Thwip!
The door was sealed off by several shots of webs. That way, those on the outside couldn’t enter the basement for some time. Of course, there were also guards standing by in the basement. But facing Leo, being plastered on the wall was their only option.
There were even more precious artifacts in the basement that were piled up densely.
Leo followed the signs and reached the room with the African tribal era’s collection quickly and saw hundreds of artifacts. Time was tight, he didn’t have enough time to differentiate them. However, he still had other methods. Circulating his Mechanical Force, he activated Mechanical Force – Insight.
Momentarily, the entire room changed into a translucent Mechanical Vision. All of a sudden, in the inner part room, he saw spots of starlight. It was the ‘color’ of Vibranium!
Embracing an excited emotion, he hurriedly approached the starlight. He deactivated Mechanical Force – Insight and picked up the shield in front of him. Weighing the shield, a smile bloomed on his face.
‘This weight, it’s almost a hundred of that pickaxe! As expected, only the ancient Wakandans will use such heavy Vibranium to make shields and pickaxes. The current Wakanda’s shield is in cloak form. It’s incomparable!’
Leo estimated this shield-shaped Vibranium was enough to build a Black Panther suit!
Suppressing his excitement, he placed the shield on his back, using Mechanical Force to tightly attract the shield onto the Viper, and prepared to withdraw.
