Chapter 148 Leo’s Grand Entrance
TL: Kyous
“Reporting! The snipers are in position. Three possible targets are located on the rooftop. A four-limbed monster, a green monster, and Spider-man. No Level 5 S.H.I.E.L.D. Non-personnel found. Please give your orders.” The S.H.I.E.L.D. sniper on the roof of another building reported back to the team leader through a walkie-talkie after scouting out the situation.
When the group received the mission, they were unaware their rescue target, Norman, was capable of transforming. Therefore, they treated the green monster as an enemy as well.
The team leader, who led the team and already reached the ninth floor beforehand, pondered for a bit before replying, “That four-limbed monster seems the most dangerous. Snipe him down first.”
Then, he instructed the other teammates, “Start setting up the pulse cannon immediately.”
Receiving the order, the sniper took aim and fired an armor-piercing bullet at Doc Ock.
The trio was fighting on the rooftop, and only Peter sensed the incoming bullet with his Spidey Sense and also sensed the bullet was darting straight at Doc Ock’s head.
Yelling a warning was too late, he immediately launched a shot of webs onto Doc Ock’s claw and with a yank, Doc Ock stumbled forward. By coincidence, the yanked claw blocked the incoming armor-piercing bullet. The bullet dug into the tentacle and immediately exploded. In an instant, the four-limbed Doc Ock became three-limbed.
The faraway sniper saw the bullet work and hurriedly reloaded, preparing for another fire. All of a sudden, two shots of webs rained from the sky, instantly plastering him and his partner onto the floor. The sniper rifle slipped out of his hand, sliding to the side.
He and his vigilant partner failed to discern any enemy and was subdued in a blink of an eye.
It was then the sniper caught a glimpse of a black armor suddenly descending from the sky and hovering five meters above their heads. He, who never witnessed this kind of thing, was terrified and began struggling, crying for help.
His partner’s face was plastered onto the ground and unaware of what was happening. Hearing the sniper crying out, he also began shouting.
The hovering Leo was annoyed by their excessive noisiness and landed next to them. He stretched out a finger and under the sniper’s desperate gaze, he poked at the sniper’s ribs. The next moment, strong currents of electricity flowed through his finger. In just three seconds, the sniper was convulsing with his eyes rolled inward. Using the same method against the sniper’s partner, the two of them finally quiet down. He flew back to the sky again.
Leo set out after receiving the news from Bucky. When he arrived, the situation was in its current state. Looking at the ruined building from a distance, he sighed internally. He thought the trip to Nepal might help Otto resolve the disease, but unexpectedly Otto still joined the dark side.
However, the most unexpected for Leo was the green monster next to Otto, Green Goblin!
When he first learned about Norman, he determined Norman was incapable of researching body-enhancing serum. Yet the reality gave Leo a tight slap. Thus, he was ready to make up for the mistake he caused by killing Green Goblin first!
He was now considered an ally to Peter and Otto, then Norman naturally was the enemy. Killing Norman wouldn’t cause any psychological burden to him.
As the Anti-gravity Pulse Blaster ignited, Leo accelerated and reached the ruined rooftop in a flash. A smile formed when Peter saw Leo and was about to open his mouth.
Out of the blue, a shockwave came from downstairs, upturning the entire rooftop. Peter and the others were also blasted into midair by the shockwave.
The instant Leo felt the shockwave, he promptly activated the Vibranium Defensive Rune. With the appearance of the faintly glowing translucent barrier and the armor’s innate mobility, he managed to stabilize himself.
Peter panicked at the beginning but calmed down soon. In mid-air, he fired a web, sticking onto a piece of flying rubble to reduce the impact. Then, with another swing, he swung onto a nearby building.
As for Doc Ock, due to his heavyweight, he wasn’t blasted too far. Currently, he was grabbing onto the building’s structure with his tentacles. Sliding down for a while, he stopped soon enough.
Norman’s weight was rather light and was blasted at least a dozen meters into the sky. He spread open his flesh membrane and was gliding rapidly in the sky, running further and further away. Although his brain was slightly unhinged, he finally sensed danger at this moment and was going to escape.
Leo flew to Peter and said, “I’ll chase that green monster. You go and see how Dr. Octavius is.”
Peter nodded and jumped down and ran toward Otto without delay.
Taking flight, Leo also speedily chased after Norman. Norman’s speed in the air was incomparable to his. In no time, he was right behind Norman.
Shaped like a huge bat, Norman glanced over his shoulder and saw the swiftly approaching Leo and was startled. Retracting his flesh membrane, he plunged down. Nevertheless, his speed was still no match for Leo’s. Leo swooped down and reached out to grab Norman.
Unbeknownst to Leo, Norman was literally as slippery as an eel, causing him to grab nothing. He changed his tactics and was going to use the web to catch Norman. But the bodily fluid on Norman made the web lose its effect.
Twitching his mouth, he directly spread open his palm. An intense electric current streamed within his five fingers as he imprinted his palm onto Norman’s body. Electricity was unafraid of Norman’s bodily fluid, rather the fluid’s conductivity was even better than flesh and bones.
Norman let out an agonizing scream and began convulsing uncontrollably. Losing the ability to resist, he immediately pummeled onto the ground.
Leo landed on the ground and saw Norman was wrecked apart and dying soon.
……
A broken tentacle seemed to greatly affect Doc Ock. His other three tentacles were firmly clamping onto the wall as though suffering heavy wounds.
Peter swung a couple of times and arrived next to Doc Ock. Suddenly, several muzzles extended out from the window above his head and began frantically firing at him.
“Hi! I’m Spider-man. Are you guys crazy?!” Peter dodged the rain of bullets while shouting.
In New York City, every police officer would automatically treat Spider-man as a loyal friend and a reliable shield. It was illogical to fire at your own teammates.
However, the eight S.H.I.E.L.D. agents upstairs didn’t care about the “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man” and continuously fired the guns.
The agents’ leader was extremely furious right now. The sniper was uncontactable, and probably already kicked the bucket. He intended to blow up the monsters on the rooftop with the pulse cannon, making them fall to their death. Even if the monsters survived, once the monsters reached the ground, they would cooperate with the NYPD to attack the monsters.
Nonetheless, as expected from the monsters, unable to be understood using common sense. When the rooftop was blasted apart, each of the monsters flashed all kinds of magical powers and remained safe and sound.
The furious leader initially prepared to deal with the hanging four-limbed monster first. When he saw Spider-man return, he ordered his subordinates to fire at Spider-man.
Seeing his persuasion failed to play any role and the men upstairs were still firing at him, Peter was livid. Using his spider webs, he rapidly climbed onto the ninth floor.
WHOOSH!
BAM!
POW!
In a fraction of a second, the eight agents were sprawling on the floor before being glued tightly, unable to move even an inch.
